So where did you hear about the game of Diplomacy?
I was just curious about where you guys heard about this game that I have come to really enjoy. I discovered it a few months back and we actually organized a game at my school which was going to be face to face and we would submit orders on a weekly basis. That didn't work so we were looking up virtual versions and came across this site thus I found you guys.

1 In 4 Americans Thinks The Sun Goes Around The Earth, Survey Says
http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2014/02/14/277058739/1-in-4-americans-think-the-sun-goes-around-the-earth-survey-says

I thought it would be funny to ask a quarter of my friends to answer the question incorrectly for kicks and giggles, but it turns out a bunch of other people had the same idea...

How many countries can you identify?
Inspired by some questionable statistics from the sun/earth thread: How many countries can you identify on the map? Post results here.

GB England openning to EC rather than Norwegian...
Does that have any real merit? It is not an attack on France, but he won't like it... though he is usually gunning for you soon enough...

The Devil's own work...
As God appears to have the upper hand in the propaganda stakes on here, I thought in the interest of fairness & editorial balance that this thread could be used for fans of Satan to help his pitch with the floating voters. So if Beelzebub already has a mortgage on your soul, now's the time to start paying off the interest...

I'm not really trying to make a point about it - everyone here is smart enough to know it's a problem - but I just love this video.

Game crashed?
I played gunboat game: gameID=135825 about a half hour ago and it crashed. Couldn't reach the site and now i'm wondering whether this was my problem or if the site was indeed unavailable for others too?
Other websites worked perfectly at the time.

Defence VS Offence
What do you think the strengths and weaknesses of defence VS offence are in war? I personally think that a good offence is 100 times better then a good solid defence. Having a good Defence on the other hand can destroy large numbers of enemies who may attack..... The unfortunate thing about it is most armies now days are mobile enough that they can maneuver around defences.

GB Russia openning Mos - STP rather than Mos - Ukr?
Do any of you favor that? Seems excess energy is wasted in the North early on, particularly as you can be bounced from Rumania and a fleet in Rumania means you will lose Galicia...

I am shocked by how often setting up stalemate lines in GB is blown when moves are not viewed to see why a particular unit appears idle... of course that has resulted in some solos on my end, too...

Draug tries to get addicted again...
OK, so I actually did enjoy myself in that last game, despite the ending and the current vitriol coming from Roka, so I'd like to try again. This will have to be limited to just 20 D for now, but I want another group of top notch gunboat players (Roka need *not* apply) to try and teach me a lesson again. I made it to the top three last time. Think you can kill me earlier?

Time Warner and Comcast
Is there any benefit to a merger for customers?

comcast has better content than time warner

The only potential benefit will be that increased prices continue to drive people to cut the cable and accelerate the push to move more and better content to services like Netflix and Hulu, and further that content providers (AMC [The Walking Dead], for example, or ESPN) will start selling subscriptions to users without the need of a cable provider.

For a reasonable subscription fee to AMC, I will subscribe to their network to watch TWD instead of fetching it off a torrent. But I'll never again pay $80/month for a useless cable subscription that provides 95% crap I will never watch.

I would love a la carte programming. I only watch three or four channels anyway, so if I could get BBC or AMC on my Roku or Chromecast I'd be ecstatic.
Draugnar (0 DX)

Ala cart on cable is unaffordable. The bundled deals cable companies get male cable (and direct tv) affordable to us (if $80 per month is affordable).

To be able to bundle the channels you want and get rid of the rest would be ideal.2WL is correct

If customers got to only watch the channels they wanted, then the other channels would go away for lack of viewers. Bundles force customers to pay for them.
Draugnar (0 DX)

If the other channels went away, then the viewers pf those other channels would go away leaving the remaining viewers of the "popular channels" with a large bill and a smaller populace to pay for it.

As far as bundling the channels you want, it doesn't work that way. NBC says "these are the channels we will provide you with, Time Warner, and it will cost you X per year to provide them to your customers." Time Warner says "But we only want these three" and NBC says "OK, then the cost is X minus $1) and Time Warner loses 5% of their viewing audience.
