I think that is Russia's only real option

France: the invasion has succeeded. Liverpool just can't be saved, and then the rest of Britain will fall.
England: needs help from Germany to survive, but that's unlikely.
Germany: will probably gather a piece of England before France takes it all. Might leave Russia be so Turkey doesn't grow too much. But this also could be a great opportunity to stab France!
Russia: nearly gone, but may still make Turkey sweat.
Austria: hoping for a miracle.
Turkey: a bit stuck in the corner, but the build may help.
Italy: still with space to grow, but to where?

germany can hold off on russia and open a second front with france.

this will force france to fight both england and germany.

if italy is smart he may join that action... however italy as usual has other options.

sending tow units north could really harass germany, even heading north-east( to boh/gal/bud) italy can look to attack warsaw and russian builds...

alternatively focusing on the balkans italy can open up war with turkey, again doing so while russia is still around to distract turkey would make a lot of sense. And then of course the option to invade france is still on the table...

Being a naval power, i suggest turkey makes the most sense right now, though a third army will grant some more flexibility, a fourth fleet would indicate the intention to ignore those land options for the forseeable future...
orathaic (1009 D(B))

for russia, disbanding stp seems to make most sense.

germany and turkey are both threats but keeping a fleet in stp does not do much, seeing it in the baltic would be great if sev was to be sacrificed and the war brought to the german mainland, however given that it is too later to contemplate this, holding out against turkey and hoping the germany leaves well enough alone might be the better route to take...

england has held, but the french invasion bodes ill, norway needs to move out, and hope be place in germany that he'd rather have someone fighting the french than him gaining norway now and not seeing any opposition to the french taking london and edi....

england moving to norwegian sea and germany moving denmark to north sea avoids a bounce between the two...

Predictable builds/disbands all around, it seems.
No, pretty revealing builds. Germany built his army in kiel rather than Munich, which can only mean he's going to attack France. This is both tactically and diplomatically his right play. France has not yet made significant gains in England, so he is weak. england will undoubtedly ally with Germany, after he is kept alive thanks to the Germans. And A/I/R are still trying to control the Turk (and failing).

Well, well, well, we now have germany saving russia (or so it seems) and attacking france and maybe england. I'm guessing germany will get two certain builds and France will be all over the place, I think if you scroll up you will se that I did predict a german win :) but will the others rally to stop him? Difficult to see Fra and Eng making a quick peace, russia can't do anything but defend Sev, Turkey and italy are fighting still. Germany seems to have a great read on this game.

Wow, what a turn! I said Liverpool was lost for England? I was wrong! Of course, the salvation is only possible due to German help, and Germany has moved on France at full swing - France should have noticed it from the build, perhaps. Meanwhile, Germany gave Russia a break as expected, and not only Turkey kept stuck, but now is under attack from Italy! Austria may have now get an opportunity or succumb, depending on Turkey's reaction.
Predicted gains/losses:
F -2, E 0, G +2, R 0, A -1, T 0, I +1.

turkey's move to bul makes little sense, especially the north coast.

ideally i would have moved smy to arm, and convoyed arm to rum.

meanwhile moving hte fleet south.

i don't know what he's thinking.

germany to take marseilles or gascony, with an option on belguim or norway.

looks like italy will be the winner in the south, with russia a possible king-maker.

@Jesus - A -1? Surely Tri should now try supporting bud to prevent turkey stablizing? Or if italy is concerned that austria will move then maybe tri-ser either cutting gal-bud or taking it if ser-bud with gal support (which is unlikely)

Germany needs to take mars and bel, taking norway deminishes eng chances of holding off fra an germany will want to keep them fighting rather than fra rolling over eng and then turning back to the homeland.

My prediction.
F-2, E-1, G+3, R0, A+1, T-1, I 0.

F-2, E-0, G+2, R-0,A-0, T-1, I-0

I vote A-0 because, while Austria should get Vienna with Turkish support, I'm not sure I trust Turkey to do the smart thing.

Austria should have looked at the orders page, he could be in a much better position. I think he will bounce again and Turkey needs a build to counter Italy so my prediction is same as Jesus (good company, lol):
F -2, E 0, G +2, R 0, A -1, T 0, I +1

Once upon a time in the west... Lacking an understanding of 'natural allies & enemies', France makes nice with Hitler on the basis of 'friendly signals', then goes on his London OE leaving the flat door unlocked and beer in the fridge. Hitler does what Hitler does, laughing as france and england destroy themselves, mops up their scs, and turns east to russia. Russia falls quickly, and an exultant Hitler draws with the lucky Il Duce and Mustafa. Yawn, I think I've seen this one before.

@kingdroid - the builds have to add up to zero, if austria doesn't gain and turkey loses 1 I assume italt will gain 1.

Are we now all backing germany for a solo?
JesusPetry (258 D)
10 Jun 11 UTC
Come on, England! Why didn't you cut support from NAO?! Of course, you were afraid of this smart Germany, but Germany had a sure Belgium takeover in which to use that North Sea fleet! Now France's losses were diminished, and he has hopes of holding on a bit more against Germany, although the situation is not good at all. France should have moved Brest to Gascony, it was obvious Germany would go for the sure thing in Marseilles. England's fear will help Germany improve gains by taking Norway whenever he sees fit. Even if E and F start working together it will be hard to stop the Kaiser in the West. Russia has enjoyed the break from Germany and the Italian advance to hold his own against Turkey, that has not only remained stuck, but lost a center and the control of the Balkans. Austria is gone, but it was a question of time, and Italy has advanced quite steadily to become a major force in the game.

Well, Austria fate was decided on the first NMR. Austria don´t have an easy life on gunboats and with a NMR is almost impossible to survive (failing to support anyone to have an ally doesn´t help either). Who will be next to go? England, Russia and France seems to be the natural order of elimination and the big question is if we will see a solo race between Italy and Germany or they will set up for a 3-way with Turkey.
At this moment, I think most people cheer for a Germany solo that is pretty possible if Turkey give some fight to Italy and he is able to take and secure Iberia.
Go germany!!
Kingdroid (219 D)
10 Jun 11 UTC
I'm really sad to see Austria go. Personally, I feel Turkey made the wrong move completely. He could have kept italy down to 0 builds this turn, and instead he gave him two.

And I am stil not sure if I am or not Germany, but the real question is still how Germany can help Russia into Rum without using a zeppelin?

12-hour high stakes WTA gunboat?
Greetings all. I've set up a 12-hour per phase WTA classic gunboat with a password and was hoping to entice some of the more experienced Diplomacy veterans to join up for a high quality game. The entry fee is 333 D. Shoot me a PM if you want in. If you meet my moderately rigorous requirements (you've got some skill and don't make a habit of resigning games) I will send you the password. Thanks.

This Time On Philosophy
In "The Odyssey" by Homer, Achilles, the elite hero of the Greeks, leads a large mass of unquestioning, robot-like followers, the Myrmidons, who are classically described as being "ant-people" in their nature. If we were asked which we'd rather be, a hero or a drone, most of us would choose the former, "drone" doesn't sound appealing...and yet, politically, we prefer the rule of masses over the few...so, which is preferable? Why? Elitists, Pluralists, ho! :)
