Here’s the way I see things: as has been stated before, if we mislynch this phase we will lose (unless, by some miracle, we mislynch the Hunter and the Hunter’s target happens to be scum – in which case we slightly postpone our loss). That means that we have to be confident in our lynch. I disagree with CB, suggesting that we have to be 100% certain, because there is no such thing as 100% certainty in this game (unless you’re the cop and you’ve successfully scanned someone as guilty – but, even then, you have to convince everyone else that you’re the cop).
That being the case, we have no room to policy lynch someone for lurking – we have to go for someone against whom we can build a credible argument. Much as I dislike the way he has gone about this game, I cannot, in all good conscience, vote for Vashta, because I know nothing about him. I do not believe that his absence is in and of itself evidence of scum (even if people say that silence benefits scum the most). Admittedly, it is also not evidence of his being town. In short, we have no evidence either way on Vashta, and so to lynch him now poses too great a risk. If we wanted to do that, we should have done it ages ago when we had less to lose.
On top of that, bear in mind not just what happens if we are wrong but what happens if we are right! If we vote for Vashta and he is town, we lose. But if he is scum – fandabidosy – he will give us no real information on the last two scum. On the other hand, if we vote for someone like ghug and are wrong the outcome is the same (we lose). But if we are right then we have far more to go on because he has actually been present and interacted with other people.
The point is that, regardless of who we vote for, if we are wrong we lose. Which means we want our case to be credible, to increase the chances of being right, and we want our vote to be as useful as it can be if it is correct. I maintain that I believe I have made a credible case against ghug (even if he disagrees with it) and would encourage all of you who haven’t already done so to strongly consider joining me. If you disagree with my case, then make a credible case for someone else. That includes making a credible case against Vash if you can! I would happily jump on a more credible candidate, if someone convinces me that there is one. Just don’t vote for Vash simply because he hasn’t been here…
