This game is going to need a new Germany
The game was paused for the xmas break, but one of the players never came back to unpause. We're probably going to get a mod to unpause so we can continue - does anyone want the German position? It's not great, but also not over yet.

Can someone please explain exactly what meta-gaming is. So that the older players like me will understand. Sometimes I'm involved in a game and two countries act very peculiar.

A year old
I can't believe it's been a year since I've joined. It's been fast, but I feel like I've been here longer on this site than just a year. I like it here, and I will remain here for a very long time.
So, I want to hear other webdiplomacy members stories of the past and how much has changed.

Resign votes
It's been suggested often that there should be an option for players to concede their games without going into civil disorder and ruining the game for the others. Here's a mechanism that I think would be elegant, and not very difficult to implement. Suggestions welcome!

Ancient Med Map Bug
My game is http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=132706 and I am Rome. I have an army at Tarraconensis and a fleet in the Ligurian Sea, and both are adjacent to Baleares. The army is able to move to Baleares and so is the fleet, but when I go to support one unit in with the other, it does not let me. Specifics are in my reply.

IF we do not return to discussion or debate on Global Warming; perhaps a WebDip tie - is the enemy of my enemy or the ally of my ally my enemy etc.?
Mugabe?! An authoritorian state. Defined as "one party", or maybe one Tyrant (in the modern, not the Ancient Greco-Roman sense. With a police/military enforcement. Not a "Benevolent Dictator" or monarch. Lots of them. Papa Doc, the notorious Uganda leader, nobody anywheres near on the Nobel Peace Prize short List.
Let's get to SYRIA and Russia's support. Is Putin's Russia acting for its own diplomatic and military advantage: e.g., the naval presence on the Mediterranean supplied by the Syrian port Tarsos .... ?

“ is the enemy of my enemy or the ally of my ally my enemy etc.?”

Perhaps, and perhaps, etc.

“Mugabe?! An authoritorian state. Defined as ‘one party’, or maybe one Tyrant (in the modern, not the Ancient Greco-Roman sense.”

Indeed, Mugabe is one man and he to a great extent calls the shots.

“Not a ‘Benevolent Dictator’ or monarch.”
Nope, Mugabe is neither of those.

“Lots of them.”

They’re all over the place.

“Papa Doc, the notorious Uganda leader”

Incorrect, Papa Doc was in Haiti. You’ve confused him with Mobutu.

“nobody anywheres near on the Nobel Peace Prize short List”

I wouldn’t be so sure. Kissinger and Obama both have one of those, so it’s pretty much anything goes.

“Putin's Russia acting for its own diplomatic and military advantage:”

I’m sure it’s trying to.

“the naval presence on the Mediterranean supplied by the Syrian port Tarsos ….”

What the fuck do you mean?

Russia (with barfely [oughta be a word, BARFELY ] WELL, barely hegemonic Ukraine nearby has a Naval Flotilla in the Black Sea; a fleet at Archangelsk, useful in summers; a Baltic fleet, and then there's the Mediterranean.
NOT To Be Confused with Tartus in what is Turkish soil, is the Tartos and-or however it's spelled T. port. In Syria.
WHILE There has been some weather-related delay in getting vessels from Cyprus to a Syrian port to remove Syria's chemical weaponry supplies, etc., that operation is not backed with the O-punted USA Congressional joint resolution. It's devolved by default to Putin's Lavrov's Foreign ministry.
Is War not Diplomacy by other means?

RUSSIA: Asian ports: Vladivistock, Sakhalin island.
While the Classic Diplomacy game board does not encompass that area, the 1905 Loss of Port Arthur in the 1904/05 war with Japan can compare with what the Russian navy fears off Syria's coast - the Loss of a refueling point, according to news reports. - For purposes of historical basis of Classic Dip games, that start at 1900 spring season. - In 1890: Heligoland Bight 2 Germany. - Kriegsmarine in WWI goes out 2 Battle/Jutland. - Not going 2 digress 2 the U-boot storey.

German is SVO for main clauses.
Sie = they; hießen = past tense of to call; Unterseebooten = submarines.

You tell me.

@ Putin : das Boot => Singular 1 Fall, Nominative ,

die Boote => Plural, 1 F, Nominative ,
der Boote => P, 2 F, Genitive ,
den Booten => P, 3 F, Dativ ,
die Boote => p, 4 F, Akkusativ , also :
Sie hießen Unterseeboote, Plural, Nominativ,

@ redhouse : you are right hießen is past tense and heißen is present tense.
Putin33 (111 D)

"But why the hiessen and not heissen?"

Because it's past tense...Hence why I said "past tense".

"Anyways, looks like you got the plural wrong and screwed up by not using a capital U. 2/3"

Your counting is funny. How is getting one word wrong 2/3?

@anlari -- As Italy you were really a jerk in this game. Have the balls to announce ahead of time that you are going for 34 centers ... don't just string the game out for 20 game years toying with your opponents who are playing by the normal rules. I wish there was a way I could ensure that I never end up in a game with you again.

How many French speakers do we have here?
I have been and still am taking French for a few years in high school, but it's piss poor. I'm thinking about setting up a French-only game where I can enjoy a little Diplomacy while immersing myself in the language for a few minutes a day.
