NHL sucks
I honestly challenge anyone who obviously knows nothing about hockey to keep high morale when the refs are literally maliciously trying to throw the game. I've never seen worse reffing in a series, and anyone who doesn't realize these are humans that actually get effected when the ref delibrately tries to blow a series against your team, should realize that it makes your team feel like they are skating though glue.

You discover a map to buried treasure
There is a catch. While visiting neighors you find the map in the hands of their infant son. The treasure is likely real as youd heard of the map and its fabled promise. The problem is not just that a child is holding the map- its that the family desperately would need the treasure to pay off their debts or they may end up on the streets starving. However you also know the babys mother and father gamble, drink and are rather unsavory. What do you do?

@Snowy: I was observing without much thought into it when I made the comment. The comments in response have been good for adjusting my expectations and beginning some dialogue at the least. I think the different views will give good info going forward for reads though.

I have to say I am a bit disappointed with the number of posts after being gone for 12 hours. Even if I'm the lynch for today we should be doing what we can to plan for the future. In a little while I'm going to re-read with an eye toward picking out likely town, since my record of picking the scum in early days is bad. Maybe a new tactic will allow me to come up with something a bit more useful than my previous games.
Maniac (189 D(B))
27 Mar 17 UTC
Two things strike me and they both could involve bluff/double bluff.

The first is, of course, stupidfighter and his confession. I've played the confession game hoping no one would believe me a few times. Ut was my downfall last game as xorsex saw through it. I think stupid could be playing this card now, I can see no other reason for his comments therefore ##votestupudfighter

The other point of interest is Balki claiming to have a gun (a claim I doubt). Claiming to have a gun makes people think twice about challenging you. We all have egos and no one wants to die D1. I think Balki is playing a bit scared if being duscovered.

I'll be watching Balki closely.

The thing that doesn't surprise me is snowny already casting shade on me. He spent his first game convincef I was Mr Scum of Scumville - I wasn't.
Unpack that further Maniac. You think I am scum who is afraid of being lynched D1? How does that mesh with your ample experience with me?
stupidfighter (253 D)

Maniac I actually kinda appreciate all the credit you're giving me right now.

Ikaneko (97 D)
27 Mar 17 UTC
Stupidfighter is living up to his nickname. This 'exasperated sarcasm' along with his strange outburst after seems to me to show the pressure he feels under. No one would make a fake scum confession D1 if they were town, even in jest. Those excuses, stupid, saying that it was to draw DO out into the open, are pure shite. This is a good cover for DO, surely, a convenient distraction to any other player. Not something you would say to keep the pressure on him. The rest feels like my M21 game. "Oh, I'm not the best at this game, I do awfully scummy things, but that means I'm town". What you essentially said was, you're in it for a laugh and you're actually incompetent. Fat load of use you are then.

@Balki - I barely remember you ever playing before tbh. I thought you might have been knew.
Ikaneko (97 D)
27 Mar 17 UTC
@rdrivera Sure:
Balki is strange. I don't think anyone would rationally reveal that they have a gun that early on if they were town, especially given that: a) Mafia would know who to target and b) The ghost knows where an item is. I'm not sure whether I should chalk it up to inexperience or if there's an ulterior motive. I saw speculation that it was to deter criticism due to the threat of the gun, only that would be a very last gasp weapon as it would be blatant OMGUS and so there is possibly another reason. I can't see a reason he would claim this item as ghost, but if I think of one I'll notify.
Snowy - Same old, same old. Nothing to report as of yet.
DO - Now, DO's defence of ya boi Oztra was a bit strange, and it's something we may have to look into as the game develops. As of yet, nothing is conclusive. I found his read of snowy a bit left field.
Bo - Not much from Bo ATM. He didn't really contribute tons, and randomly asked if anyone would co-GM on page three, as well as had a moan at snowy for posting too much.
Oztra - No clue where that read on snowy came from. His arse? He's the most prolific poster and as far as I've seen has done very little to arouse suspicion, and I severely doubt that Oztra did either as he didn't particularly give a reason.
Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))
27 Mar 17 UTC
@Ika:

Can you elaborate more on your view of Oztra? It seems odd that you find his vote on snowy suspicious, yet you are voting for stupidfighter who has the same exact (not an exaggeration - almost verbatim) argument as you regarding his vote and scumread of Oztra.

Do you find it disconcerting that the person you are voting for has the same suspicious conclusions as you regarding Oztra?
MoscowFleet (129 D)
27 Mar 17 UTC
@Bo maybe I've passed judgement too quickly, like I have tunneled on town newbies in the past. But I feel like you were way too quick to just say "good job" to Oztra for doing basically nothing. These were his "decent" arguments:

"he wanted to know who the new people were so he could prey on them bc he is scum
he is also asking heaps of questions about who is lynching the ghost and who will want to lynch the ghost
also may be giving misleading stats to therefore give the mafia an upper hand.
also i think stupid is mafia
mafia protects their own i reckon"

Zero logic there whatsoever? I have no idea how you thought these were "decent" in any way. Like I said, he seems to be pushing something for the sake of pushing something. Now, inexperience is a very possible reason for that. But that doesn't explain how you thought his contributions were meaningful in any way.

@Tom yeah I think new scum feel more pressure to do something, to help their team. With town, you're one of many and there's the feeling that there are plenty of others to help out, but as scum you're thrust into having to do something - or at least there may be that perception.

@Ika: Don't chalk anything up to inexperience by Balki - he's an experienced player and definitely has a good understanding of the game.
@Ikaneko, I apologize for my inexperience and general incompetence.

Is it true that you've narrowed me down to mafia, ghost, or green townie? Impressive.

Just because I'd like to learn how to play better, can you help me through this. You've asserted that it is irrational to publicize my gun because (a) mafia would know who to target and (b) the ghost knows where an item is. It might be my fecklessness, but I cannot comprehend your point.

How does my gun reveal tell the mafia "who to target"? Who to target with what? I'm either going to fire my gun today or never fire it at all. If I fire my gun, they would have learned of it anyway. If I don't, who cares?

You are correct in your meaningless truism that "the ghost knows where an item is," but you failed to identify any significance to that truism, and failed to weigh it against the benefit of my crowdsourced wisdom. So, again, sorry for being so irrational. Please teach me. And please tell us my alignment.
Ikaneko (97 D)
27 Mar 17 UTC
@Tom I accept that, but stupid's other actions consign him to the scrap-heap. I do find it somewhat disconcerting, but at the same time my vote can change, and my primary viewpoint is that stupidfighter should prove to us that he is capable of playing better as town. This is day one, I'm just throwing my opinions out there as was asked. Obviously, I find it suspicious, but with the person who I believe is scum voting for him, I find it perhaps less suspicious now. Obviously, if SF is town, my view changes.
Ikaneko (97 D)
27 Mar 17 UTC
@Balki Your "crowd-sourced wisdom" is useless. It is not necessary to reveal who has the item as people are perfectly capable of debating who to use a gun with a non-specific owner on, and so your decision to reveal was really pointless, if not counter-productive. You've limited yourself to firing from the hip on day one, an essentially pointless action with a low success rate. If you don't, either the item is haunted by the ghost, which renders it useless, or you're killed by the mafia. So, to summarise, either:
-You use it today with a low chance of hitting anyone of import
or
-It's useless.

Hence my point about you either being ghost (unlikely), mafia (more likely) or crap town (equally likely)
Maniac (189 D(B))
27 Mar 17 UTC
/\ I read the above as Ikaneko saying he is reluctantly bussing stupidfighter yet giving himself an out if stupid manages to disguise himself as town. Stupid's flip could implicate Ikaneko
Ikaneko (97 D)
27 Mar 17 UTC
@Maniac I afford this chance of redemption to anyone. My opinion can change on anyone quite substantially on D1 as there is very little evidence either way. Perhaps I didn't make that quite clear.
Okay, well, we're all (a) ghost (unlikely), (b) mafia (more likely), or (c) town. So, I guess the point of your post is just to insult me?

If you're going to do that, be more creative, and be correct.

You seem to think that guns are awfully useful. You assume that if I don't fire my gun today that ghost will come for me, or mafia will night kill me. Why do you make that assumption? Why does my gun reveal heighten my risk of those outcomes. And please, explain it to me like I'm "crap town."
Ikaneko (97 D)
27 Mar 17 UTC
@Balki I would say the ghost would try to haunt a known item, yes. Mafia would be more inclined to kill someone who is known to be a potential threat. You yourself said that you are going to use your gun D1, so I'm guessing I didn't need to explain this to you.
I assume everyone to be town D1, and so I am saying that you're playing shit as I think you could be mafia.
I don't follow you. I'm clearly less wise than you think.

You are saying you think the ghost is going to haunt me now? Why?

You are saying that mafia is "more inclined" to kill me because I am "a potential threat"? How did my gun reveal make me a potential threat? Aren't we all "a potential threat"? If I fire my gun, it could kill mafia, but it also could kill me or another townie, even if I were good at identifying scum, and not a complete moron. So, you think it's self-evident that the mafia will try to night kill me tonight if I don't fire my gun?
Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))
27 Mar 17 UTC
@Moscow:

In M26 didn't you take a bunch of heat for saying you were anxious d1 as town? I find it odd that you would chalk up Oztra's play as anxious/pressured scum versus anxious/pressured new town.

I find your logic of questioning bo's comments sound though. It does seem odd to put him on a pedestal for shallow observations. Though right now I'm chalking it up as encouraging a new player to keep participating.
Ikaneko (97 D)
27 Mar 17 UTC
Are you high? Obviously there is a chance that you will hit mafia, and so I would say they would be glad to be rid of you because of it. Why gamble on you hitting town? You are a known quantity of a risk - not only do you pose a risk to mafia through contributions and voting, but also through your item.
Balki, I've already said why I believe the ghost would be more likely to haunt you. I suggest you go back to school and retake your Year 8 Comprehension test if you would like a reason. You're misrepresenting my points, essentially refused to read some of them and have been lazy in your thinking. It's evident we've hit a roadblock. Think before you post, dude.
snowy801 (591 D)
27 Mar 17 UTC
@Tom I don't recall asking anything of you in particular. I made a side comment on how it seemed notable that the two follow up votes on a probable scum was made in such a manner which clearly reflected a pressure vote rather than a read lynch, and you latched onto it. Is there anything about this subject which unduly interested you? I'm curious why you chose to focus on that, rather than the rather lengthy remainder of my post.

I'm still wondering why DO claimed to have never played a game with me. I think her behavior is unusual to an extent (though I have more or less the same read on Oztra as she, though perhaps lesser in magnitude) and her unusual reticence is striking as well. But then people play differently on the forums than on discord, and perhaps that is the case here. There's also "Have people caught on that I'm really susceptible to buddying yet.. or?" What was that supposed to mean, DO? Actually, I very well recall that brainbomb accused you of this very thing when rivera latched onto your ideas, and you were firm in your denial of this tendency.

At the same time, it seems hardly likely that DO is scum. I very much doubt stupidfighter would've crumbled under pressure if its source were a bussing teammate, and Oztra wasn't even looking at him at the time.

@RHK that's fantastic, but that topic is long closed. Do you have anything about the game you intend to share?

Regarding Maniac: I actually noted him for not seeming scummy in this initial salvo - the more or less baseless out of the gate accusations is something I like to do in shorter games, and in fact this non-scumminess was so contrasting with his last game (where he was indeed town) that I was soliciting meta reads from those who have seen vanilla and scum Maniac in action. To claim that I was throwing shade on him seems disingenuous.

His analysis on SF and Balki also strikes me as poorly thought out and rudimentary. I don't know if such is to be expected of him, but one would imagine that after all the words which has thus far been exchanged that he would have a deeper analysis of characters than "I think they're bluffing." Twice.

Regarding Balki: certainly his behavior is somewhat suspect, especially with how he continuously attempts to draw the conversation into the subject of his alleged gun than examining the people in the game, but I can't really see any benefit to claiming a gun as scum. On the other hand, such is also true from the perspective of town, so it is certainly a bad move, and bad plays are not necessarily indicative.

He's certainly sassy.

Regarding Ikaneko:

His accusation of stupidfighter is, as he puts it, shite. While I also see SF as scum, to say that town would never fake claim scum in D1 is nonsense. His segment on DO isn't even coherent, and his final input on "Fat load of use you are then" - lynching useless town is not something I'm inherently against, but to use it as a reason to lynch SF here when there are so many other, better reasons to go with?

I'm inclined to think Ikaneko is bussing his teammate, seeing a lost cause. His follow up comments are also strange.

More later - I have to switch trains.
