NHL sucks
I honestly challenge anyone who obviously knows nothing about hockey to keep high morale when the refs are literally maliciously trying to throw the game. I've never seen worse reffing in a series, and anyone who doesn't realize these are humans that actually get effected when the ref delibrately tries to blow a series against your team, should realize that it makes your team feel like they are skating though glue.

How can I become a crappier person
I have recently been told that I am funny, kinda weird, a stalker, spammy, and an artistic twat. Do you fellows at WebDiplomacy observe these traits about me? How can I become the worst me possible? What tips and advice can you offer? How can I become a shit human? This is a serious thread and I want to become even worse than I am.

Win Or Bust
Draws are for sissies. Who would like to join me in a game where, by agreement of all participants, no "Draw" votes shall be permitted?

I think it'll be fun.

You discover a map to buried treasure
There is a catch. While visiting neighors you find the map in the hands of their infant son. The treasure is likely real as youd heard of the map and its fabled promise. The problem is not just that a child is holding the map- its that the family desperately would need the treasure to pay off their debts or they may end up on the streets starving. However you also know the babys mother and father gamble, drink and are rather unsavory. What do you do?

New robot!
There's a new robot called the omnibus that does all the work that needs to be done -- faster, cheaper, and more accurately than any human can do. Wrinkle: only one person owns it. Is this a problem or a blessing?

Three Build England, possiblility and effect on game play.
As far as I know, there is only 1 set of moves that gives England 3 1901 builds, what if in a real game, England, Germany, Russia, and France must complete those moves, what will be the diplomatic effect in game?

For your amusement
So guys, as some of you know I can be a bit of a troll on the forums. This also tends to mean I'm a bit of a troll on other internet platforms that aren't webdip. One of them being tinder. This time I thought it would be hilarious to make this my bio and see what happens: http://imgur.com/tW86lIi

What makes someone terrible at playing diplomacy
I was wondering if personality traits can make it harder for someone to ever get good at this game. I consider myself pretty average if not mediocre at diplomacy for a number of reasons.

1. I dont trust anyone. People usually have agendas. I know some players are exceptions. Most Press I send I am honest. Or at least I want it to be

2. Im lazy. I hate writing long winded sermons just to gaurantee a DMZ because hell if you arent gonna give it to me anyway I hate wasting my time.

3. People tend to offer ideas which mostly benefit themselves but just say it all sexy. I tend to appease people and just give them things so theyll like me

I also feel ive gotten alot better at press lately. But Is it too late for me? Am I beyond coaching at my 400+ games to learn how to become a great diplomat
Octavious (2802 D)
09 Apr 17 UTC
The only problem with 1 is your bizarre belief that some people are exceptions. They're really not.

Two is fine. Laziness is a virtue to be nurtured. No one likes long winded nonsense.

Three... Now that's your problem. Appeasement doesn't work. Give someone a deal heavily in their favour and they probably will think you're a liar taking the piss, or they'll walk all over you.
JamesYanik (548 D)
09 Apr 17 UTC
also there are players on this site who get bored and throw games, and don't give it their all. if you're looking at win rates and feel a little bit dissatisfied, there's a LOT of different factors going into this
Ogion (3817 D)
09 Apr 17 UTC
I agree with Octavious. You want to be pretty firm in coming out ahead on every deal. Appeasement doesn't work well I have found
Ogion (3817 D)

1 and 2 I think are good traits for diplomacy players. Maybe trust but verify. Being too paranoid makes you impossible to work with. There are some players who are so paranoid they stab their "allies" every turn apologize and then do it agin. By the third round I just try to kill those guys

One common mistake ive made in Juggernauts is offering Turkey into BUD in exchange for Vienna. Seems like Turkey is mentally incapable of honoring that deal as it traps themself in my flank. Not sure how to keep a Juggernaut going once Turkey is in BUD

Capt Brad, bud, listen I don't wanna embarrass you but I think you've allowed yourself to use up your entire vocabulary. I wouldn't want you to be without a clever bug squashing reference in a third thread.

Also you'd have to make the RR lower. I'm not all that reliable ;)

I have seen this as a common problem on this site. There is such a lack of trust that most games seem to be gunboat these days which is annoying as the game is called "Diplomacy" not "Everyone for themselves"
CAPT Brad (40 DX)
10 Apr 17 UTC
I did not see how unreliable private Byron was when I picked the RR. A low RR is a sign of a very poor player. One who cuts and runs when not getting his way. A childish act for a grown up game. An indicator of a quitter who cannot be taken seriously. Poor private Byron. A sad person. Pity the fool.

CaptBrad, if I cared at all about the metric that still weighs my NMRs from 3 years ago and CDs from when adolescent me quit as a valuable metric for who I am or the level of play I can dish out I may actually be offended. I found that all it takes to win is a simple capability for strategy, negotiation, and luck.

Strategy: Mainly just anticipating your opponent and recognizing valuable territories, I have found that some players fail in this or have an over-complicated strategy, which is also bad.

Negotiation: This is the part most people fail at because it requires near-constant communication with those involved in your strategies. The people who get killed early do so because they didn't convince their neighbors to leave them alone.

Luck: No matter how good you are, your position and neighbors can screw you over or give you a massive breakthrough in the game. This is the part nobody can control, the chaos on the battlefield, and you just got to roll with it.

Diplomacy: Is Germany Too Weak?
I noticed that Germany is considerably weaker in Diplomacy than it's historical counterpart. In game, Germany can very easily be knocked out by England and France. However, historically Germany was able to fight competently on three separate fronts. Does anybody feel that Germany is a little misrepresented in game?

Coup in North Korea
I was trying to think why Trump would engage in such brinksmanship with North Korea. Sure, it could be just more inexperience, etc, but then I was thinking that maybe the goal is to scare the generals there so much that someone bumps off the Great Leader. Then I started thinking, that's probably why he rubbed out his half-brother recently.

"rolling dices"?
I just won a 1v1 against CptMike, however he was getting really angry at me, saying he does not want me to join any more games that he has created, accusing me of "rolling dices". What happened according to me is that I lured him into trying for Munich in Autumn 01, then bouncing him out of there and basically leaving him with only one build.
