German Opening Strategies: Update for Online Play

PREFACE: I am really a rather rotten player. I write this not because I enjoy any good measure of skill at the game of Diplomacy, but rather because I enjoy writing.

Drinking Age
What is the drinking age in your society?
This is the most illogical part of America. An 18-year old has the competence to vote for President but not to drink a beer.

quick question
Hi, I used to play many many years ago and now I am back to webdiplomacy. Just a quick question, how many phases do you need to miss for the game to kick you out?

Apologies if this question had been asked before but I couldnt find it in FAQs.

Deleting posts with profanity doesn't silence anyone except a person who can't post without using profanity.

Deleteing posts with profanity *is* a violation of a free speech policy, something kestas fully supports and has told the mods repeatedly he wants to keep alive and well on the forum.

Kestas want free speech. It's his site. You don't like it, I suggest you fuck off and go somewhere else.

As a moderator team we take a very loose approach to spam enforcement and forum moderation in general. This is how Kestas wants the site, a place where people can have any discussions they want without worrying about repercussions for what they say. The only limitations come in regards to the site rules. No cheating accusations, no talking about ongoing gunboats, and no spam. The type of spam that is not allowed is the creation of multiple threads, or ignoring moderator warnings to stop creating threads on a particular topic. YJ's posts do not constitute spam. However, posts that imply or threaten real life harm to members are just unacceptable. Recent examples: threatening to put a bullet in someone, and making implications condoning/suggesting rape of a members family. It should be common sense and future comments along the same line will result in a silence.

#threadkill.

Thanks for the input, jmo. If I were Kestas, I'd want to limit my liability, but as you say, his site, his decision.

For my purposes, that'll put a nail in this one. Thanks, all for the thoughts. Turns out it was all just a mental exercise.

Krellin, the mods have spoken. I'll leave you to demand satisfaction elsewhere.

So YJ's constant barage threatening (often off topic) to rape krellin's daughters only is bad because he threatened to rape krellin's daughters? Or is it actually acceptable? You say it isn't spam (because it wasn't the subject of multiple topics, although he did have one, IIRC, on that issue more or less) and yet he clearly violated the discussion about raping someone's family members...

And yes, I know I am guilty of the first one (although it was, if you look closely, a paraphrase of Ricky Martin's Living La Vida Loca which I was listening to on 90s on 9 when I posted that).
krellin (80 DX)
09 Aug 13 UTC
hecks - No need to demand satisfaction - the Mods have spoken, they set the rules, I follow the rules, YJ follows the rules, we all follow the rules. At times we question if a rule was broken and we make the appropriate bleeting noise...Mods, as they always do, respond quickly and do a great job. I don't have to agree with them, though, in truth, I agree with them in this case. It was a grey line worth looking in to, but I'm not disappointed.

I don't mute people - so I honestly don't care that YJ is not silenced. I don't honestly care about his childish insults...but I'm pleased to see him get a community smack-down. <licks finger, sticks it on YJ's ass and feeeels the sizzle..>

I think YJs comments are completely inappropriate, I mean what if the girls are mingers or double-baggers , that is soooo wrong. Do we have photos?

At what point will you people stop bothering to try and to treat him like a rational person? Hasn't he demonstrated time and again that he is no such thing? Take a page from Hitchens when dealing with krellin:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNAaDKZ-SuE

Let him scream at deaf ears all he likes, it's probably the best choice. I did it for 3 months and it was great. Then I got bored and realized I could have more fun taunting him. Soon I'll get bored with that too and just not pay attention any more for a bit.

Look, all I'm saying is that all this shit isn't necessary. On the internet, the best advice is the advice your mothers all gave you. Just ignore it. Ignore him. I guarantee that if for a week straight nobody acknowledges a single "point" he tries to make, you'll see radical changes in his behavior.

As for my personal contribution to the problem? I don't know what to say. I have a decent working relationship towards almost everybody here, even those I frequently disagree with (Draugnar, Semck, gunfighter, etc.). Sure, I have moments when I get a little trololol in me, but it's usually for the common hilarity. Sometimes I overstep myself, but it's generally where you-know-who is involved. I just don't see any single thing as being too low of a blow in this regard. A person who exists only to taunt others deserves to be disregarded and treated with contempt. He deserves it - and worse.

krellin has a problem with everybody. Me? I just have a problem with krellin. If a few daughters got banged along the way, so be it. That being said, I definitely understand that kind of talk was not well received, so I'll try to moderate it in the future, lest I become closer in behavior to he who is most abhorrent.

Err....is YJ simply oblivious to his pubic smack down? lol Keep it up, YJ.

Oh...and since we know you are hear and listening...I'm *still* waiting for you to MAN UP and address me in discussions, as per *your* debate requests a year ago. And by "Man Up" I don't mean putting on your pedobear suit...

Catch ya around, big boy...and you are a big boy, aren't you, YJ? Big man with his big hands craving little things...mmm mmmm mmmmmmm....

Enough of the daughter chat. You just heard form JMO it is unacceptable. I can't suggest personal harm come to a forum member and you can'tr suggest you want t statutory rape his underage daughters or even take them without their consent whent they are old enough.

Anyone else sense that YJ is trying ***realllly*** hard to overcompensate for some deficiency? Just curious...

I do remember he was going to attempt to address a girl in his office....but he was sooooooo scared to talk to a girl he had to come here seeking advise...

Probably went off in a rage of frustration after that...and who knows what...
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))

Well it's a good thing I didn't do either of those things then, isn't it?

Look, if what I said was out of line, and nobody wants to hear it, that's fine. I get that. I can correct it easily.

But I'm not going to let you spin this like I was threatening anybody.

@ Nigeebubs,
what's this upperclass & breeding stuff, because I'm a slighty Literate person
& use the phrase "Cork Brained Pantomine Clown" ?
I'm an Australian & we like to think of ourselves as an "egalitarian" society
& I have very little or nothing in common with Stephen Fly and, or Huge Rant
"Breeding" is, in my opinion, an English obsession
I recently picked up an excellent book "Lord Henry Bentinck's Foxhounds" compiled
by Lord Charles Bentinck, ( printed by The Mayflower Press, Plymouth )
so am now knowing that Lord Yarborough's "Flasher" (1839) sired the bitch "Furious",
Sir Bellingham Graham's "Harper" sired "Harlot" circa 1810,
and Lord Fitzwilliam's "Hymen" (1777) sired another "Hymen" (1781) at Burton.
I am also now aware that one problem of poor breeding is compulsive dirt eating
and that in 1844 it was decided that Her Majesty's "Satellite" was a dud stallion dog

Remember that one day when the Webdip community tried to be civil? Remember when we decided to treat each other with respect? Remember how flashes of human dignity were momentarily visible in even the most defensive of us? Remember how for one brief shining moment we almost listened to one another? Remember how we all became better, happier people, and we changed the world? Remember how beautiful it was?

No, neither do I. But it would have been glorious.
MajorMitchell (1874 D)

@ krellin, although you never actually demonstrated your claim
that I had made statements that were clearly hypocritical
I simply pointed out that I have never claimed to be entirely consistent
Draugnar (0 DX)

Hecks, you can either enjoy that kind of forum when you are dead (if you believe that kind of thing) or look forward to an absolute non-existence. Either way, the forum will cease to bother you when your brain ceases to function. It works that way for all of us.

No, that was not a threat! Don't even go there! It was a *fucking observation*! :-)

Draug: if that's the best you have, I'll let your logic there stand on its own "merits." No counter is necessary.

MajorMitchell (1874 D)
09 Aug 13 UTC
@ krellin, you fling these accusations /criticisms about
but when you are challenged to demonstrate their validity you turn to talc powder and ignore / evade the issue
so AGAIN, whom do you say are my "Libtard allies"
and AGAIN, demonstrate the hypocritical statement(s) you alledge that I have made
to be hypocritical
Draugnar (0 DX)
09 Aug 13 UTC
No counter is necessary because you have none. Simple logic dictates that you say you will do some action when someone else may have a say in the matter, then you are intending to deny them that say. It's logic at its purest and most simple form and you know you can't refute it.

But so long as Nigee is happy, and Krellin gets some attention, I suppose all is well!

Dear Krellin, who do you hate?
I'd like to start a game with some cool lefties/decent people, and figured the quickest way to work out who to invite was to ask you who you hated most. At the moment I'm thinking a game with Tolstoy, Major Mitchell, Thucy, Cachimbo, Hecks and Bo-sox would be fun. Did I miss anyone?

The Libertarian Rift
It is often claimed that divisions in the GOP run clearly along statist/libertarian lines, but this is frequently unclear in practice, as there are a good many other divisions and alignments as well (as in the Democratic Party). Here is a particularly clean example of the former, however.

Replacement for Summer League Games
Hi all. I am looking for someone who would be willing to replace one of the seven members in our Summer League. She abruptly decided to give up Diplomacy and her departure has halted our league play.

If you are interested in replacing someone who is in a great position in the League message me and I can send you more information. Thanks.

Could you warn me whenever you read a good argument against you in one of the many threads? I was thinking we might have to recruit some secretaries who can filter out arguments like Kafkatraps, complete fiction, partial fiction, anything including the word nigger, so we can focus on the arguments that can be considered worthy of your time. Post interest in becoming secretary in this thread and I'll get you a form.

How DARE Soldiers Fighting Religious Fanatics Not Be Religious?!
http://news.yahoo.com/u-military-problem-atheists-065000534.html
I find that ironic in the US Military's case (for the above-stated reason)...but it's an issue that crops up every now and again, people thinking that a lack of religious belief MUST mean you're "at risk," or "depressed" or a danger to yourself or others...how about we're not convinced by the "evidence" for God and think that Religion kills (and encourages killing at that) and leave us be?
