Marvel vs DC
Taking this from the Great Debate thread. So who do you guys like better? Any match ups you'd like to discuss or what not. I'm personally a Marvel fan because I feel they use more shades of grey in their writing and plotlines.

HONY
My new favorite Facebook feed. Basically, Humans of New York photographs a person on the sidewalk and posts a brief story about the encounter or the subject's story a few times each day. Mostly human interest stories, but interjected with humor, philosophy, and life observations.

Experienced players
Please consider signing up as a mentor for the SoW games. I can almost guarantee you have played with at least 1 graduate from these games. They help new players learn how to play and they help older players meet a new group of talented players. There is less work in mentoring then in playing an extra game, so please sign up if you can.

Selling Points made Legal

Diablo 3 has changed the way we play online games. You can actually make money by selling items, gold and in game materials at a small commission to the Site. Diplomacy should do this too, think how much money Splitdiplomat and Czech could make, it would be like they had jobs suddenly. This seems like a great Idea for up and comer players like Zmaj who will only keep playing in hopes of unlocking achievements or something. May as well let them make some cash instead.

Suspected multi-account in live game
http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=90854

The game is anonymous and in progress now. Austria and Italy both looked like they were going to fail to submit orders in Spring 1901. Since then, Austria has been freely ceding his home supply centers to Italy and writing unlikely support orders.

Diplomacy as a learning tool?
So without being too specific, I teach an international relations course at a university. Since the last week will mostly be consumed with students writing their final papers and my class is oddly small (6 students), I'm thinking about playing a game of diplomacy with them in the last couple days.

Prominent player banned
I have just realized that a prominent and well-respected player has been banned recently. Too be honest, I am surprised it took the mods so long to figure this one out. Can anyone guess who I am talking about?

There is a difference between pushing the edge on rules and outright cheating for an advantage. I enjoy pushing the edge and take pride in the fact that "pause is not a diplomatic tool" came about because I used it as such to get a draw. Some may call that assholish, but I pushed the boundary and got a favorable result form it and had fun doing it. Can't anymore because that boundary is now set by the mods. But it wasn't against the rules and I and anotherplayer both had fun forcing the draw out of the third.

Draugnar (0 DX)
05 Jun 12 UTC
Sand and ghug. Maplelaugh is a joke and doesn't screw with me as it were cause I dont see his posts unless I hit ESC during the page load. I do find it humorous that he thinks I approach life like I approach this game and insults me as being immature while himself being the most immature poster on the forum. But it doesn't bother me as I only see it if I want to.

As always I have a question or three.

What is the significance of a red cross (diagonal cross as per St Andrew, but red not blue ) against a players name, i have seen it in perusal of open games etc ???

is this a sign they have gone to Web Dip Heaven or Hell ???

Celticfox (100 D(B))
05 Jun 12 UTC
I think Webdip Hell
Draugnar (0 DX)
05 Jun 12 UTC
Actually, it is an X like on America's Got Talent and it means they have been booed off the WebDip stage.
MajorMitchell (1874 D)

the third questionwas about caountry selection
is it purely random ?
does a players "past record" of which country he has or has not played affect the
choice ?

I always seem to never get my favourite(s) so in order to play them I have to find
them in "distress'd conditions in games with open spaces, & buy in.

I don't mind buying in and that they are at "long odds" for a win,
but it's the having to whore oneself to a bunch of characters who are pissed off that the fat plum in CD has come back to action.

young draugnar plays an excellent tart plying his trade & no doubt enjoys the seedy,
degenerate pleasures it offers him.

I am starting to think that somehow my buying in is affecting the choice in new games

gee whiz those two games are worth a look.

each player's stake is more points than i have !!!!!

"There is a difference between pushing the edge on rules and outright cheating for an advantage."

The difference is common sense. I think our goal should be to try to play a "good game". I think if a player finds a loophole in the rules, the question is "does it detract from playing a 'good game'. If the answer is yes, a decent-minded player doesn't need a mod to tell him not to do it.

I only care about fairness. If we know a multi is in a game and we all come together to take them out before fighting anywhere else, I find that the game is a little off and imbalanced but still fair to a point. On the other hand, if someone with 17 SCs is banned and some random guy takes 15 of them and wins, I don't appreciate that. That's where a game should be automatically drawn in my opinion. There are exceptions to that, say, if someone is already on track to winning, but not many.
flc64 (1963 D)

bo_sox48 speaks with forked tongue. Just check out gameID=82486. bo_sox48 took advantage of two players being banned and went on to solo in a wta game. This was a case that everyone, even bo_sox48, had agreed to draw, but after the two players left, he decided to continue for the solo. BTW, he was allied with the two cheaters.

Hey bo_sox48, I know that you have muted me, but if you read this…where was the fairness in this game? I just guess you believe you were on track to win it anyway as an ally with cheaters. So much for fairness.
jmo1121109 (3812 D)

There is no point using that argument on world games. Every world game has at least 1 CD or banning. It is expected, if you don't like it don't play world games. If people cancelled or drew for every issue in them there would be no completed world games on record.
Draugnar (0 DX)
05 Jun 12 UTC
@spyman - But this is a game of dishonesty. Ethics has no place here. If you aren't breakign an actual rule, it is fair game. Until the rule is written, use it if you like. Once the rule is written, accept it and find another loophole to exploit. It's the capitalist way.
flc64 (1963 D)
05 Jun 12 UTC
@jmo1121109. I agree that CDs are part of the game. My argument is against bo_sox48. He talks about fairness, but in that recent game, he was the one that took advantage of the situation, elected not to draw, despite his position that it should be drawn.

Christians vs Atheists
Seeing as there is normally at least one of these debate threads a week, I thought I would just set this here and see if there is in fact any middle ground to be had. -> http://www.cracked.com/article_15759_10-things-christians-atheists-can-and-must-agree-on.html

Atheists, what do you think? Christians, how about you?
