How Happy Are You?
I'm curious about two things.
First, how much time do you spend on webdip creating political and social discussions to reinforce your own bias among fellow webDippers? What's your deal bro? Second, how many of you are slightly uncomfortable answering the real question: Why are you so unhappy? (and why does webdip help that?)

No it's not. Government seizure of industry is socialist. High taxes are high taxes. Socialism is defined as public ownership of the means of production, democratic socialism which Bernie wrongly thinks he is is the achievement of this through democracy. Bernie has outright stated he does not agree with the government owning the means of production. He's no socialist.

"Taxing people" is much different than taxing a very, very exclusive demographic of this country that I imagine none of us fall into (but if you do, congratulations).

"Hillary shouldn't be electable. She has done stupidly shady things this election cycle and her experience in politics is easily undermined by Sanders'. She hasn't done anything extraordinary. She isn't capable of it. She'll be a hybrid of Bush and Obama (probably closer to Bush). She's nothing more and nothing less. She'll take money, she'll make money, she'll do little to help working people, and she'll spend eight years fighting for a dying status quo."

Some people support Hillary because they assume Bill Clinton will be guiding her and things were pretty good under Bill. What Bill wanted to do and what he actually did were quite different. You will see the same thing where Hillary will have to be more conservative than the Republicans to improve the economy and direct spending to rebuild the infrastructure that Bush and Obama ignored.

Meanwhile if Trump wins, almost all his plans are illegal under US and international law and he plans to drive the US deeper into debt than Bush and Obama combined.

@bo sox48 That's very dangerous thinking. Under his tax plan, a person making 2 million dollars would pay 50.2%. I don't think that makes anyone motivated to make more money if the government is gonna take half of it. The agruement that

"Some people support Hillary because they assume Bill Clinton will be guiding her and things were pretty good under Bill."

If people say that they will elect Hillary because they think that electing Hillary for President of the United States is also reelecting Bill as the President of the United States, take them out back and cap em. That's a kind of stupid that we don't need in this gene pool.

Also, things were great under Bill for people who had it great under Bill. That's not all-encompassing.

I don't agree with trump that we should deport 11 million people because I think its unrealistic to get it done, however its not illegal

@Putin ... taxing 50.2% of $2,000,000 is not that drastic. Anyone in 2015 making $413,000 or more per year is getting taxed 40%. Upping it 10% for multi-millionaires isn't a huge change. They'll be fine, I promise.

General, the government decides whether a million dollars a year is enough for you because a) the people within government can think and b) thinking should bring one to the rational conclusion that $1,000,000/year income is plenty.
TrPrado (461 D)
02 Mar 16 UTC
Because you can still live on it and invest decently with that money. A million dollars net income is nothing to sneeze at. And so the government does not cause substantial harm. And then it's the citizen's duty to pay it nor is it extreme to pay. It's no big deal. It seems we have 2 Putins, but they are polar opposites.

Raising taxes on the wealthy and small business is bad idea in general. When George H W Bush put in a luxury tax on boats and yachts, it was repealed 3 years late by Clinton because over 16,000 people lost their jobs due to the wealthy not buying anymore boats. they bought yachts from other countries or just decided that their 10 year old yacht was good enough. The more you tax the upper middle class to upper class, the less money enters the economy and people lose their jobs.
Lethologica (203 D)

Ah, but you see, Mr. General, Trump's plan to deport 11 million people...practically...is to circumvent the courts (hence the law). On top of which, Trump wants to end birthright citizenship without a constitutional amendment, creating 4.5 million more illegals for him to deport. So, yeah, legality is not a concept Trump's particularly concerned with. (Never mind that the plan would, y'know, be detrimental to the country and inhumane to a pretty damn large number of people.)

The government has the job of directing overall spending and inflation in the economy, that's why it has the power to tax. If the government didn't tax anybody there would either be hoarding of wealth or runaway inflation because there would be overspending in the economy.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

@General ... the issue that you have brought up is not an issue of taxing the wealthy, it is an issue of having an economic system so dependent on the wealthy that the rest of the country suffers when they suffer. This is called trickle-down economics and it is the result of Satan's right hand man Ronald Reagan.
General Putin (100 D)
02 Mar 16 UTC
I agree that Trump's plan is not a: feasible or b: morally acceptable because you are splitting up families. I would prefer kasich's plan for a pathway to citizenship through back taxes and other hoops. I just don't see why deporting people who aren't here illegally is viewed as hateful and mean

A luxury tax isn't an income tax though. You're describing a sales tax.
Putin33 (111 D)
02 Mar 16 UTC
"The more you tax the upper middle class to upper class, the less money enters the economy and people lose their jobs."

That assumes they're putting money into the economy to begin with. The rich tend to save more than spend. This is why despite tons of inducements, the government had a hard time getting the private sector to invest on its own after the crash - hence the stimulus.
General Putin (100 D)
02 Mar 16 UTC
I fully understand the trickle-down effect and believe that it works. When you tax corporations and the wealthy absurd amounts, they move their companies to other countries, costing Americans jobs and money in the economy. The wealthy no longer spend the money that they used to, causing businesses to suffer. The biggest issue in this country is the tax rate for small businesses
