Yes, black lives matter. Police in the US have a culture of impunity and far too many unarmed people are killed without consequence, and young African American men disproportionately so. Police reform to demilitarize the police and introduce professionalism and accountability is a must.
TrPrado (461 D)
21 Apr 16 UTC
The first one is a group of marching protesters chanting "Pigs in a blanket, fry 'em like bacon." The person who came up with it said that it wasn't meant to encourage violence against police, but rather encouraging the idea that if a police kills an innocent, they should be treated like a murderer. Which is pretty much what Black Lives Matter is based on. Pigs in a blanket is a pork-based food, and so is bacon. So why look at them so differently?
The second one is mostly incoherent, but it looks like a group, supposedly Black Lives Matter, getting kicked out of an event for protesting an anti-feminist giving a speech. The group that kicked them out kept chanting, "Trump."

Personally I think a two front solution is needed. I think the police need to be demilitarized and non-lethal equipment should be a priority however to maintain some level of security (especially with guns still a commodity on the street) the police cannot be disarmed. Instead police should not be put to trial in civillian courts. They should be help in tribunal, similar to the military but with 1 key difference the tribunal will consist of: A peer (another officer from another department who never met or worked with the officer on trial) A superior (A higher ranked officer from another department who never worked with the officer on trial) and 3 civillians (1 selected by the defendant from a jury process, one selected by the plaintiff from a jury process, and one selected at random from another county as the officer) The 3 civilians will vote guilty or not-guilty and with a simple majority the third vote is cast. So in essence 2 officers speak for all officers; and 3 civilians speak for all civillians. The way it works now, officers are so sure they will have an unfair trial (since the jury is made up of a staggeringly high number of civilians who have never been faced with similar circumstance) that other officers take pity and never charge them of the crime, instead claiming it was manslaughter or self-defense before they even get to trial. If the system was changed to give officers a fair trial and also hold them better accountable. Its common sense. It works in the military, (you could argue rape but I would argue the civilian system isn't any better in this area since thousands of women go without closure in america after sexual violence). WE have to acknowledge that a "jury of ones peers" as guaranteed in our constitution is not being given to officers since an entire aspect of their life is missing from the jury. When we have a race fueled case in civilian courts the jury is usually divided fairly evenly between minority and majority voters. why do we not do that for our men in blue?

I think TrPrado is mischaracterizing the videos.

The first one is of BLM protesters giving a broad generalization of cops as "pigs in a blanket". Here is the background information. http://www.mprnews.org/story/2015/08/20/state-fair-black-lives-matter
They are protesting a Minnesota state fair vendor application for being colorblind and not requiring applicants to fill out race for affirmative action.

The second video shows BLM infiltrators shouting fuck you to anyone who confronted them with rational discussion, basically, "la la la, I can't hear you!"
TrPrado (461 D)
21 Apr 16 UTC
She was shouting "fuck you" to people who didn't listen and kicked her out.
And the first one was literally how the organizer described what the chant meant.
leon1122 (190 D)
21 Apr 16 UTC

No one kicked her out. They stood up in the middle of the speech and began shouting their slogans and using menstruation as face paint. Then they went around wagging their middle fingers along with copious obscenities before walking out on their own accord. It's like the fake meme about Obama's diplomacy. The pigeon knocks over all the pieces, shits on the board and then struts around like it won the game. It's hard to believe how anyone could think such actions are worth justifying.

The organizers can say anything they want about the event. It's like Donald Trump saying his comments about blood pouring out of Megyn Kelly's wherever meant her nos.

@Putin Oh noes, the privileged college students who have nothing in the world to complain abouts' feelings were hurt. Go act like animals.

On a serious note, you're being pedantic, stereotypical, and offensive. Cops are the most worthy people of our respect, and sometime they will have to shoot a violent criminal. Moreover, the blm propaganda that black people are unfairly targeted is completely false. They are, in facted, less likely to be shot in comparison to their crime rate. http://newobserveronline.com/far-more-whites-killed-by-us-police/

@Demon I would imagine that to be the response of a narrow-minded liberal such as most users on this forum.

@Leon, where did you get the 'crime rate'?

Are black people disproportionately found guilty of crimes, and thus 'found' to have a higher crime rate than non-blacks? I'm not sure your 'version' of events makes sense.

They are charged for 28% of all crime and for more than 40% of violent crime.
Note that black people are only 13% of the general population.

That link leon1122 provided is from an avowedly white nationalist website. Please read the news articles for yourselves and don't take my word for it.

Regardless of that little fact about the source, leon1122's white nationalist buddies seem to be missing the point.

http://mappingpoliceviolence.org/unarmed/

"Nearly 1 in 3 black people killed by police in 2015 were identified as unarmed, though the actual number is likely higher due to underreporting"

"Unarmed black people were killed at 5x the rate of unarmed whites in 2015"

And finally

Only 10 of the 102 cases in 2015 where an unarmed black person was killed by police resulted in officer(s) being charged with a crime, and only 1 of these deaths (Matthew Ajibade) resulted in convictions of the officers involved"

Are you saying you've also never seen the movie Boyz n the Hood? Because that's the true disgrace here. A good movie, I can guarantee.
leon1122 (190 D)
23 Apr 16 UTC
The source is unimportant so long as the facts are correct.

For your unarmed shooting source, where did it get its statistics? I can't find the US Census data it purports to present.

As for why unarmed criminals are being shot, that necessitates a case-by-case analysis. Frequently, there is reason for the officer to believe that the his life is in danger. For instance, 511 officers were killed between 2004 and 2013. 43% were killed by black perpetrators. Keep in mind that they are only 10% of the population. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2015/01/09/are-black-or-white-offenders-more-likely-to-kill-police/

I have not in fact watched the movie you speak of. Movies are exactly a great source for factual information though.

TrPrado (461 D)

Don't watch it for facts and statistics. Watch it for its cultural value since it is a great movie. Watch it for artistic credence. There's some sex and violence in a couple scenes if you're light about that, but they aren't there just to be there. They, especially the violence, are played as part of the plot. I recommend watching it.
Putin33 (111 D)

Yes you're correct each case should be analyzed by itself (You can read each of the cases on the site I gave you. I encourage everyone to do so). Just like each case of cops and others being killed by "black perpetrators", something you refuse to do. You insist on treating each cop as an individual but paint the entire black population as criminals and "animals" (your words, which you have repeatedly used).

Anyway is it your contention that police are justified in killing whatever unarmed black person they happen to come across because supposedly the black population as a whole (which with your 'stats' keeps managing to shrink) is predisposed to killing cops?

By the same collective punishment logic then wouldn't black people be more than justified in killing whatever cops they happen to come across?

"Movies are exactly a great source for factual information though."

But white supremacist news sites, naturally, are.

"For your unarmed shooting source, where did it get its statistics?"

There is a large heading on the website which pretty clearly says "About the Data".
Here is what it says:

"This information has been meticulously sourced from the three largest, most comprehensive and impartial crowdsourced databases on police killings in the country: FatalEncounters.org, the U.S. Police Shootings Database and KilledbyPolice.net. We've also done extensive original research to further improve the quality and completeness of the data; searching social media, obituaries, criminal records databases, police reports and other sources to identify the race of 91 percent of all victims in the database."
Tolstoy (1962 D)

"I have not in fact watched the movie you speak of."

You absolutely should see it. This weekend. Now. Do not pass go. Boyz n the Hood is one of the truly great movies of the '90s. Amusingly, many of the progs who recommend it do not realize the extremely conservative social values it promotes because it is a movie by and about black people. Just watching the first ten minutes of it for the first time in years and thinking this must be absolutely shocking to the conscience of today's Social Justice Warriors.

It's free for people with internet access, so you have no excuse not to see it:

"BB, fiction, not fact."

Right, we could certainly trust the CIA to tell us that the CIA isn't facilitating the drug trade.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UT5MY3C86bk

"Unarmed black people were killed at 5x the rate of unarmed whites in 2015"

Great, so if the police just murdered more unarmed white people, the "Black Lives Matter" crowd would be satisfied. So long as there is no agreement that police murdering people is wrong no matter the melanin levels of the victim, there will never be any progress on this issue. The alarming number of homicides committed by American police officers is an issue that concerns me greatly, but so long as certain people make it out to be just an issue of racial statistics, nothing will ever change.
TrPrado (461 D)

One of the biggest themes in the movie are the moral values Tre's father instills into him. His life seems the most together, and they make it clear it's because of his father's influence. These are family values you hear more from conservative pundits.
Tolstoy (1962 D)
23 Apr 16 UTC
Note that Trey's mother deliberately sends him to live with his father at the beginning of the movie, because she knows it is best for him. And look at the counter-example of Ricky and Dough-boy, who never had a father (I would go into detail, but I'm not going to spoil the movie for those who will be watching it), only a mother who loved them but could not earn their respect and obedience as children. The point of the movie is clear: mothers are incapable of raising boys successfully in the environment of the movie. One ultraconservative theme of several in the movie.
