I am about to embark on a buying and building journey for church. They were recently donated a 40" monitor and want to set up a multimedia center in the narthex, so I am buying an Intel Next Unit of Computing to drive it. Any gotchas to look out for from you home builders?

"Because that's all you've ever said in regards to students here."

To counteract all the teacher-bashing that goes on around here and everywhere else.

As an educator I thought you'd understand this. Evidently not. Your big brain missed that one.

Log on again after a few hours, see many new response to this thread. Am excited to read entertaining anecdotes. Find it's mostly threadshitting and trollfeeding. Am severely disappointed.

I had a science teacher in junior high who would run maggot races on the overhead projector. Now that was entertainment.

Putin,

You constantly complain about students. When I tell you about good experiences I've had with students you are placed into such a state of disbelief that you turn into a broken record claiming I'm the best TA. I think that is plenty of evidence to believe you're a bad teacher.
Invictus (240 D)

Boom!
Putin33 (111 D)
10 Jan 14 UTC
You already gave me that line, abgemacht. For a brilliant teaching mind you're awfully repetitive. You also can't seem to stay on topic, nor do you bother reading responses to points you already made.
Putin33 (111 D)
10 Jan 14 UTC
Jon Madden, aka, your cheerleader in chief doesn't seem to mind your repeating the same thing over and over again. He's just as impressed as he was the first time you gave that lame line. No wonder you get unanimously great evals.

Well, it seemed to me there were two conversations happening at once. One is how I'm nasty because I called you a bad teacher. I'm explaining how I came to that conclusion. The second conversation seems to be how large my brain is as evidenced by my being an engineer, which I think everyone would agree requires no further expansion.
Mujus (1495 D(B))

@Randomizer-- You wrote, <<My psychology major roommate mentioned the same thing for his psych classes. You needed to give answers using the professor's school of thought interpretations or you would get a failing grade. They showed the same thing in one episode of "Growing Pains.">>

That's not all that unusual in college, but when it does happen, students should very respectfully follow the grade appeals process through in its entirety. Keep copies of everything, and appeal any low-graded papers on the basis of academic freedom, which applies to students as well as to teachers. As long as your papers show an understanding of the concepts and your points are well-supported, you should get an 'A' even if you completely disagree with the teacher's conclusions. If that doesn't bear fruit you can contact F.I.R.E.: The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education. They support teachers and students wherever academic freedom is infringed upon. They threatened legal action when our administration tried to restrict student protests against class cuts to one little patio, four hours per week. Things really heated up when our local congressperson showed up for the next protest and the administration not only refused to allow him a microphone, they also had a row of uniformed police with guns standing by. Those police officers really looked embarrassed! lol

Since then the VP and President involved have been charged with several felonies related to gifts from contractors. Somehow the venue got moved from the DA who did the initial investigations and given to a young judge who is letting everyone off with misdemeanors.

Invictus (240 D)

"students should very respectfully follow the grade appeals process through in its entirety."

Maybe, but it's a hassle. I got a C on a minor paper in an international realtions class. It was of equal quality to the work I put in on every other, but happened to be about the Irish economy and I happened to turn it in just before the crisis hit there. By the time the TA was grading it pretty much everything I said was wrong (laughably so), but the sources I used were legit. He was fairly savage in grading it, and I appealed to the professor, but even though I got the TA to have to look at it again I noticed it was always in his mailbox untouched. Then suddenly the semester was over.

I still got an A in the class since the class had an unbelievably easy and multiple choice (can you believe it?) final. But still, it made me suspiscious of grading appeals.

I teach kids with special needs on a day-to-day basis and am in the process of defending my dissertation/ getting my PhD so I can teach at the college level. Both things are not state secrets.

As I explained earlier, I was counteracting the teacher-bashing. You either choose to ignore that or don't care and just want to repeat the same crap over and over again. I guess I can't complain about students without getting called a 'bad teacher'.
Putin33 (111 D)
10 Jan 14 UTC
Also - name a doctor or nurse who doesn't complain about patients. Name a retail worker who doesn't complain about customers. Name a lawyer who doesn't complain about clients. If you live in a wonderland where none of the people you interact with bother you or feel entitled and act rude to you then I salute you, sir, for having such a fantastic job.
Invictus (240 D)
10 Jan 14 UTC
See abgemacht? Since people apparently said mean things about teachers other places Putin33 is justified to say mean things about students here. It's really quite simple.
semck83 (229 D(B))
10 Jan 14 UTC
They all do, putin. On the other hand, the level of bitterness you demonstrate is rarely present. If I heard a lawyer say, "The problem with the legal system isn't the judges or the lawyers, it's the clients!" I probably would not recommend him to anybody.
Putin33 (111 D)
10 Jan 14 UTC
Invictus, if you're going to engage in this pathetic colloquy with abgemacht at least have a modicum of honesty and recognize that this forum is replete with teacher-bashing, which is where the previous instances of me "complaining about students" came from.
Putin33 (111 D)
10 Jan 14 UTC
He probably wouldn't say it to clients.
semck83 (229 D(B))
10 Jan 14 UTC
Relevance?

If I heard him say it at all (for example, to me, another lawyer), I probably still wouldn't recommend him.
Invictus (240 D)
10 Jan 14 UTC
"recognize that this forum is replete with teacher-bashing"

I don't recognize any use of "x-bashing." It's so over used as to be meaningless. Anything critical of teachers is bashing to someone like you, just like anything critical of the liberal meme du jour is bashing for obiwanobiwan.
Invictus (240 D)
10 Jan 14 UTC
If the lawyer thing is a joke, it's pretty funny. If it's serious, it's just delusional. We have a legal system because people have problems, not just to push papers around for no ultimate purpose. Doing that is only a part of it.

Atheists in the east
How many are there? Relatively more or less than here? Although all the east is fine, I'm especially talking about the countries that are considered to be either hinduistic (not sure if that's how you spell it in English) or buddhistic (again not sure). Think India and the like. Not quite the Middle-East.

Email Hasbro! Let's get Diplomacy for Wii U
I don't want to engage in any arguments about consoles, but I have a Wii U and Diplomacy would be absolutely perfect for the system, for both face to face and online games. I have gone to Hasbro's website and emailed them a request to look into developing a Diplomacy game for the Wii U. It won't take but 10 minutes to do, so let's see if we could make some headway.
