And all those nice things don't change the fact you were a smug prick in SMC's thread, like you tend to be when you put the mod hat on.
Well I thought they were mods.

"I don't feel its a double standard. I feel like I'm asking you to do your fucking job, which you don't. Asking you to do your job whether or not its volunteer is not a favor, its a request which you can chose to comply or ignore as a volunteer. You usually chose to ignore or to go through the motions, fine, you are just a volunteer.

I see the double standards in that you punish people more consistently and severely when they point out someone cheated than when someone actually cheats."

If this were true you and multiple other members who have posted cheating accusations would have been banned already. I'm sorry you feel I was unfair to you but I have docked points and silenced people consistently since becoming a moderator. I don't care who posts the accusations and I don't care what they are, if it is going to cause a negative impact on the player being accused then the accusation is unacceptable.

Isn't it great that people like me that don't give a fuck about anything that you guys are talking about have to mute a thread that has become a mod-bash-party even though it was intended to be congratulatory?

Love you guys.

"And all those nice things don't change the fact you were a smug prick in SMC's thread, like you tend to be when you put the mod hat on."

Perhaps if people followed the rules more, I wouldn't have as many opportunities to act so smug. : )
I don't feel you were unfair to me, I asked to be banned because I thought the policy was so ridiculous. No problem there with your action, just the fact that you all are so willing to use the ban in the case of accusations of cheating (when there was by all accounts cheating) rather than when someone actually cheats

Then, the kicker, was that you used the time we were banned to make smug and snotty comments to spike the ball. Not mod behavior, not admin behavior, but expected.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

@Santa

First, you were *not* banned. You were Silenced. There is a difference and it is important.

Second, we have used Silencing about 5 times in the history of the site. We have *never* banned a player for cheating accusations.

Your arguments are simply invalid due to the inaccuracies of your statements.

People volunteer for modhood? Is that how is works? I thought they were selected after gaining a reputation for solid diplomacy play and showing the unusual trait of talking sense on the forum.
jmo1121109 (3812 D)
02 Dec 12 UTC
@santa, you posted on a congratulatory thread for me, I look like an jerk if I ignore you, and frankly, I don't want people to hate me for trying to make the site run smoothly. I know you don't always agree with what I do, but I do promise you I'm not going to do anything that will harm anyone's ability to play games on the site unless they are cheating in game (why I prefer the silence over docking points). Additionally, we're not allowed to mute players or threads, and we take care to read as many threads and replies as possible to make sure we don't miss requests posted in obscure threads or bug reports made by people who don't contact us the correct way.

@Putin, appreciated, but honestly I don't mind helping out a site that exists simply to let people play a game for free.

@Octavious, we are approached based on reasons like the ones you mentioned, and then have the option to agree to volunteer our time to moderator duties, obviously people are free to, and have turned down the offer to become moderators.
I posted on your congratulatory post because you were classless enough to talk shit after you used mod powers to silence someone. Sorry, I don't think you deserve congratulations
but we've both made our points and obviously this isn't going anywhere. Have fun in your new position of authority.

@jmo, congrats.

@OctaviOus, why the hell do you spell your name that way? I realize that you're the forum's stereotypical superBrit, but there's really no reason I can see for adding the O to things that never had the O in the first place.

Here are the expectations I have of the mods:

-They never let their personal opinions affect their modding. If they are unable to stay impartial, they are expected to excuse themselves.

-They act, in general, more maturely than the average member on the Forum (note, this sets the bar rather low).

Mods do not punish members for Forum activity (other than a few specific rules). Players are free to harass and abuse and criticize mods as much as they like (which I do not have a problem with); however, that means that mods are allowed to freely act on the forum as well. We try to chose mods that can handle themselves properly, but it isn't necessarily a requirement, per se.

"...this sets the bar rather low..." Well said....I agree, and enjoy dragging the curve down for the class.

"...Players are free to harass and abuse and criticize mods as much as they like..." And we *should* endeavor to do this to keep them sharp and ensure they are maintaining mental stability and objectiveness.

ABUSE MODS DAILY! Do *Your* part to keep this site fair and well run! Kick 'em while they're up, kick 'em while they're down - just make sure YOU kick a mod today!

I'm the forum's what?!?

All names have various spellings. I'm aware that Octavius is most common (a bit 100 BC, perhaps...) but like most people in this world I didn't choose my own name and I'm quite happy with the o. If you want to blame anyone, blame my mum. But then, of course, honour demands I'd have to beat you ;)

You don't have to like the Mods to understand that they seem to have got their act together and are working better as a team, but would it not make sense if the rules together with the punishment for transgressions were clearly written down they wouldn't have to make arbitrary off the cuff decisions that seem to be aimed at winding other Members up, even if that is not the aim it can be the result.
2 examples involved Sargmarcher, 1 was docking him 300 D and another was allowing him to transgress the rules without banning him for two years. It just makes it look like Mods are making it up as they go along, recently abge docked Krellin points and then changed his mind and silenced him for 24 hours. To make matters worse he then made some arrogant comment when changing his decision, why do that?
Humility, especially for Mods, can be a beautiful beautiful thing ..... it displays a touch of class.

Top 10 Cities and Locales in the Anglosphere?
Just thought I'd throw this one out there...
Taking the four most obvious nations (the US, UK, Canada and Australia) and anywhere else you see fitting in the primarily-English speaking world (not "primarily," as of course there are many Spanish speakers in the US and many French Canadians, but the nations' overall aggregate majority is titled towards an English language/culture, I think)...best cities and locations?

The natural outcome of a dip game is a draw
It's either a 3-way draw, or possibly 4-way, depending on the alliances. If a solo occurs, than it's because one of the players made a mistake.
