Marvel vs DC
Taking this from the Great Debate thread. So who do you guys like better? Any match ups you'd like to discuss or what not. I'm personally a Marvel fan because I feel they use more shades of grey in their writing and plotlines.

I wasn't including imprints because they aren't part of the main dc or marvel universe normally. I was just comparing the 2 big comic book universes.
Zmaj (215 D(B))

I see. Then Marvel, only because of Chris Claremont, the greatest genius to ever write scripts for comic book series.

Yeah I do love Alan Moore though. It's like everything he touches turns to gold.

It's not just Marvel and DC, of course. The biggest talent I've seen recently is Mark Waid ("Irredeemable"), from Boom Comics.

@Draug, *Thor, not captain america, and that was my favorite part of the movie besides the hulk/loki fight.

Was there anyone who didn't like the Loki/Hulk fight?
SacredDigits (102 D)

Watchmen came out after and had similar ideas to the Marvel LS Squadron Supreme...right down to renaming older comics characters to make edgier versions.

@Celtifox - yes, Loki
Draugnar (0 DX)

Thanks jmo. Your right. It was Thor. Still great fun. And yes, Loki and his "I am a god" <phwap, phwap, phwap> followed by Hulk's "Puny god." had the entire audience roaring with laughter. We all loved it.

Anyone else read the alternate timelines? I'm currently reading the Marvel 1602 comics and find them to be highly enjoyable.
1602 was interesting. I don't think it was fantastic, but it was a good read.

Celtic, i havent looked at the digital comics yet. I will though as soon ay time allows.

There are some things ive forgotten. Like Exodus, who beat the Avengers single handedly. He worshipped Magneto. How powerful was that guy. Could he have taken Apocalypse?
SacredDigits (102 D)
05 Jun 12 UTC
There was something funky about Exodus...I don't think (IIRC) he was ever truly "single-handedly" doing anything. He was manipulated by Fabian Cortez, whose power makes other people more powerful.

But was stupid powerful without that.
Hey check out these Marvel/Reebok shoes available in China. I wonder if they make adult sizes. I could go for some Deadpool kicks...

Those are actually pretty neat. I'm surprised they aren't available in the states with how big Spiderman and the rest are.
They're coming. I think China just got them first (shorter distance from factory to retailer?).

Depends what you like, overpowered heroic characters with fantasy-esq plots or angsty characters with realistic plots. I like a bit of both, although Justice League is the only DC comic I really got into, for sheer hilarity.
Celticfox (100 D(B))
05 Jun 12 UTC
Well with reading comics I really don't need to watch any soap operas.

Well, 95% of Marvel characters need therapy.
Randomizer (722 D)

That's Stan Lee's fault since he wanted to get away from the "perfect life" in the DC comics. Batman is pretty much the worst in the older heroes and he's rich.
Gunfighter06 (224 D)
05 Jun 12 UTC
Captain America. That is all.

The guy has bulletproof armor, an everything-proof shield, an M1911, and a sidekick with a Thompson. In other words, he beats everyone.
Celticfox (100 D(B))
06 Jun 12 UTC
Until he meets a telepath. Then he's kinda screwed.
Draugnar (0 DX)
06 Jun 12 UTC
Oh come on. Hulk smash everything. Nothing hurt Hulk just make Hulk angry. You make Hulk angry and Hulk make you hurt. Ask Odin how Hulk get angry.
An everything-proof shield? I don't think it's Magneto-proof. Armor and an M1911 don't do much good there either.
Randomizer (722 D)
06 Jun 12 UTC
Captain America's shield was broken during the Marvel Secret Wars.
Gunfighter06 (224 D)
06 Jun 12 UTC
Yeah, but he's so... American! He's the epitome of what it means to be an American. Captain America is what you get after you combine every great American from history. I'm pretty sure he would win.
Thucydides (864 D(B))

Oh btw even though I don't really care about comic books, I would like to say this about Marvel vs. DC:

Batman is like 10x cooler than the next best superhero, so that's cool for DC, but DC doesn't really have anything else cool, whereas Marvel has a bunch of hits. So if I had to, like, eliminate one of them from the universe, I guess it would be Marvel, much as I do love the fuck out of Batman.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
06 Jun 12 UTC
it would be DC*

HONY
My new favorite Facebook feed. Basically, Humans of New York photographs a person on the sidewalk and posts a brief story about the encounter or the subject's story a few times each day. Mostly human interest stories, but interjected with humor, philosophy, and life observations.

Experienced players
Please consider signing up as a mentor for the SoW games. I can almost guarantee you have played with at least 1 graduate from these games. They help new players learn how to play and they help older players meet a new group of talented players. There is less work in mentoring then in playing an extra game, so please sign up if you can.

Selling Points made Legal

Diablo 3 has changed the way we play online games. You can actually make money by selling items, gold and in game materials at a small commission to the Site. Diplomacy should do this too, think how much money Splitdiplomat and Czech could make, it would be like they had jobs suddenly. This seems like a great Idea for up and comer players like Zmaj who will only keep playing in hopes of unlocking achievements or something. May as well let them make some cash instead.

Suspected multi-account in live game
http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=90854

The game is anonymous and in progress now. Austria and Italy both looked like they were going to fail to submit orders in Spring 1901. Since then, Austria has been freely ceding his home supply centers to Italy and writing unlikely support orders.

Diplomacy as a learning tool?
So without being too specific, I teach an international relations course at a university. Since the last week will mostly be consumed with students writing their final papers and my class is oddly small (6 students), I'm thinking about playing a game of diplomacy with them in the last couple days.

Christians vs Atheists
Seeing as there is normally at least one of these debate threads a week, I thought I would just set this here and see if there is in fact any middle ground to be had. -> http://www.cracked.com/article_15759_10-things-christians-atheists-can-and-must-agree-on.html

Atheists, what do you think? Christians, how about you?
