MVP of the NFL
So who's the MVP so far? Aaron Rodgers? Personally, I think its Peyton Manning. I dont think it can be stressed how valuable he is that a team that wins 11 games or more for the past decade cant win a single game without him. What do you guys think?

"You know what Tebow is tearing up? The wins column. And he already beat the Jets and their vaunted defense, in case your memory is failing you. "

Great! A 22 way tie for MVP in that case for Denver. Im sick of this media inspired bullshit about the sacred nature of a win. A win takes a team last time i checked, and in this case the other members of the team have contributed more

"And he already beat the Jets and their vaunted defense, in case your memory is failing you. "

My memory is not failing me. I watched that game as the Jets shot themselves in the foot yet again and Tebow did NOTHING all game until the end of the fourth quarter. Clutch, not MVP.

"Plus, his interception rate is lower than Rodgers."

That happens when you are the second option on a dink and dunk offense.

"He takes care of the ball and doesn't do stupid things, which leads to wins. "

GREAT. Show me the last quarterback whose best attribute was that took care of the ball and didn't do stupid things and won the MVP.

? Drew Brees or Aaron Rodgers are winning MVP. don't be ignorant

So if wins aren't the most important stat, what is? The player with the most passing yardage? The player with the most touchdowns? If a QB throws for a million yards but loses every game, he's hardly a valuable player. Rodgers inherited a great team from Brett Favre that was fresh off a conference championship game. Tebow inherited a team with a stout defense, mediocre offense, and no running game and has gone 6-1 as a starter. I'm not saying Rodgers isn't a great player, but if you put Matt Flynn as starter Week 1, the Packers are still a playoff contender. See: Patriots, 2008.
Tim Tebow doesn't win games, The Broncos win games. Tim Tebow is one player on the broncos and hardly the most important.

The broncos have no running game? They are FIRST IN THE LEAGUE! They are near last in the league passing. Thats all they do... run. Jesus christ why are you arguing about things you have no clue about
killer135 (100 D)

I'm sorry, but if you want to deny Drew brees any chance at winning MVP, then may the police perform a drug raid on your home. I'm tired of him having good seasons and being completely ignored. He MAY break the single season passing yards record and the Saints have all but clinched the NFC South. And without Brees, the saints would STILL be the mediocre team they were. Now Honestly, I don't believe Rodgers should win. But if his team doesn't lose, then he will.

Tebow averages almost 50 rush yds per game. That'll help a rushing offense. And if the Broncos win games, why were they so awful with Kyle Orton at QB? You can argue all you want that teams win games, not players, and in other sports that may be true. However, football is a quarterback-centered league, and arguing that point is foolish. Teams can't win without a quality quarterback, with VERY few exceptions (like 2000 Ravens). Bottom line is that Denver was terrible without Tebow, 6-1 with Tebow, and leading their division after making the switch. That's pretty much the very definition of valuable.

Tebow wins because he's a winner. simple. He makes the team play harder and play better. Should he be MVP? No, not a chance. Should he be called one of the great QB's of the season? Not at all. Should he be called a winner? yes

"He makes the team play harder and play better." - e.g. a very valuable player. Perhaps Most Valuable?
Tettleton's Chew (0 DX)

Aaron Rodgers, close to unanimous as well.
"why were they so awful with Kyle Orton at QB?"

Because they played ta tougher schedule, Orton sucked and admittedly Tebow adds another dimension to the attack.

"You can argue all you want that teams win games, not players, and in other sports that may be true. However, football is a quarterback-centered league, and arguing that point is foolish."

NO, you are foolish for thinking that all teams are quarterback centered, the Broncos are NOT quarterback centered. The rely on the running game and shun the passing game. And in the Running game Tebow is merely a part of the whole.

"Teams can't win without a quality quarterback, with VERY few exceptions (like 2000 Ravens)."

This is another exception, and very similar

"Bottom line is that Denver was terrible without Tebow, 6-1 with Tebow, and leading their division after making the switch. That's pretty much the very definition of valuable. "

Tebow has beaten several bad teams by a touchdown or less. Does he add another aspect to the offense and can he be considered a positive? Yes. Does that mean he is anywhere close to the MVP. No.
killer135 (100 D)
07 Dec 11 UTC
Why are you arguing this? Tebow is NOT the most valuable player. And honestly, he will never win MVP unless he starts the whole season, a task that he has yet to accomplish (coach's fault, not his)
"e.g. a very valuable player. Perhaps Most Valuable?"

Not at all, do you even watch football?
HE HAS NOT COMPLETED 50% OF HIS PASSES.

and he is an MVP QB?

In my honest opinion, I believe Drew Brees should win MVP. But Aaron Rodgers will win so it doesn't really matter.

"It would be like arguing Sanchez for MVP last year, but sanchez isn't a fundamentalist christian and pales in comparison to the media interest in Tebow."

Popularity has nothing to do with whether or not he has Christian influence. His Christian influence is inspired by a love for Christ and if that inspires other people then, frankly, who cares if that makes you ill?

Furthermore, Tebow is MVP NOT because he's popular but because of how VALUABLE *ahem* (keyword there) he is to his team and their overall success.

No Santa Clause, I never said Tebow wins games FOR his team, but his team clearly has won EVERY GAME THEY'VE PLAYED SINCE HE STARTED. That says something for sure :D

So, don't cuss and get all frustrated because you think your statisticians and Football-Friendly QB databases rule out Tebow and that your OBVIOUSLY superior intellectual understanding and grasp of the NFL and the way football is played there have somehow still not gotten me sold onto your... Wait.... OPINION.

This is an opinion, right? So let others have theirs. Here's the simplicity of mine:

Broncos weren't winning games consistently at all. They were negative wins to their losses. Then Tebow began starting. Now they're winning. EVERY TIME. Argue with that if you want, but all of the statistics and cussing and anger and frustration and intellectual lofty "football speak" isn't convincing me otherwise.

Most VALUABLE players tend to be VALUABLE. If you want to contend that Tebow isn't JUST THAT for his team (and the league in general), then please do try.

My MVP vote has gone to Eli Manning the past few years, less because of his on-field ability, but more because of his Oreo-eating ability and Citizen Eco-Drive unstoppability. Tebow is the poster child of a game changing player, and not just for the Broncos, but for the NFL in general.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))

that's all well and good, but if you don't see how obvious it is that Rodgers is the one and only choice for MVP you are in for sore disappointment.

If it was a VP award, Tebow would be one of many who won it.

Since it's MVP, Tebow fails.

"No Santa Clause, I never said Tebow wins games FOR his team, but his team clearly has won EVERY GAME THEY'VE PLAYED SINCE HE STARTED"

NO THEY HAVEN'T he got absolutely exposed and embarrassed by the Lions.

"So, don't cuss and get all frustrated because you think your statisticians and Football-Friendly QB databases rule out Tebow and that your OBVIOUSLY superior intellectual understanding and grasp of the NFL and the way football is played there have somehow still not gotten me sold onto your... I am arguing against people who don't watch football, I'm just wondering why they keep arguing.

Lofty football speak? What? Completion? Are you Serious?

"Most VALUABLE players tend to be VALUABLE. If you want to contend that Tebow isn't JUST THAT for his team (and the league in general), then please do try. "

You only know Tim Tebow from the media hype surrounding his start. They want to make a story out of him so they cast him as the center of the Bronco's Defense, but he is barely that if he is at all. The Broncos rely on rushing the football, not passing. And Tebow isn't the featured runner, they use several players for the job.
"My MVP vote has gone to Eli Manning the past few years, less because of his on-field ability, but more because of his Oreo-eating ability and Citizen Eco-Drive unstoppability."

Exactly, focus on what the media and commercials tell you about the player, ot what the player actually does

Orton's losses were all by less than a TD with one exception. Tebow has been winning them tight, sometimes in OT. Denver also got blown out once with Tebow at QB.

The difference between Orton and Tebow is not as big as people pretend it is. He just finishes better.

Santa, I watch the Giants every week, go to a few games every season, and live three miles from their training camp, which I see every day in the summer after work. I'm in three fantasy leagues, one with Tebow as my quarterback. I hate the Cowboys. So yeah, you're wrong about me not being a football fan.
In that case I am at a loss. If you want to believe a QB, who isn't even used as a QB, who benefits from a good defense and great run game, has been predominately bad teams by 1 touchdown or less, and is only one cog in a broad offensive attack is the Most Valuable Player in football, go right ahead. But you are voting for media hype, not performance.
Flameofarnor (306 D)
07 Dec 11 UTC
Absolutely not. I watch Tebow play and I see what he does. He makes mistakes and he is new to the NFL. He isn't perfect, nor is he as polished as your pets Rogers and Brees, nor is he racking up their numbers.

But the question is whether or not he is VALUABLE. It is very evident that he is.

Yes, lofty football speak. Your attempts to dazzle and wow us. Your extensive football knowledge is great and all, but I was simply trying to explain that you ought to consider respecting others' opinions.

Also, I know of the media hype surrounding Tebow, I know his numbers aren't great, but I know that what he is for his team and the league in general is IRREPLACEABLE and can not be reproduced. Arguing with the RESULTS of what has been happening with Denver (Yeah the Lions messed around with him a bit, but I seem to recall a VERY different 4th quarter! Or don't you watch football?) is still difficult to do.

His passing game against the Chargers was also VERY good, I would say. But of course you wouldn't, so don't even bother. I'm aware of Tebow and I watch him play, otherwise I wouldn't post opinions in regards to how I feel about him and his VALUE to his team and the NFL. I'm not some child, and I don't think you should concern yourself with accusing others of ignorance where there is none.
good thing we didn;t do this in week 8 or Todd Haley's beard would have been MVP. They were 0-4 before he grew it and 4-0 after. There must be something there!
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))

yep, Tebow is valuable... just not the most valuable.

This is a stupid conversation. Flame you are making it stupider.

Tebow isn't the MVP, not by a long shot. I will not argue the point, for the same reason I won't argue corporate finance with a hobo... your stance invalidates any argument you could possibly make to support it.
SacredDigits (102 D)

"Yeah the Lions messed around with him a bit, but I seem to recall a VERY different 4th quarter! Or don't you watch football?"

In the fourth quarter of the Lions game, Tebow threw two touchdowns. The first was to Detroit's Chris Houston. The second was Denver's only TD of the day and made the score 45-10 with 8 minutes to go. The game was already wrapped up. So, even in that "very different" quarter he gave the Lions as many points as the Broncos.
"Absolutely not. I watch Tebow play and I see what he does. He makes mistakes and he is new to the NFL. He isn't perfect, nor is he as polished as your pets Rogers and Brees, nor is he racking up their numbers."

1. Obviously not close enough because you didn't know he lot against the lions
2. This is not the description of an MVP

"Yes, lofty football speak. Your attempts to dazzle and wow us. Your extensive football knowledge is great and all, but I was simply trying to explain that you ought to consider respecting others' opinions."

Please point out any lofty football speak

"Also, I know of the media hype surrounding Tebow, I know his numbers aren't great, but I know that what he is for his team and the league in general is IRREPLACEABLE and can not be reproduced. Arguing with the RESULTS of what has been happening with Denver (Yeah the Lions messed around with him a bit, but I seem to recall a VERY different 4th quarter! WRONG, he is replaceable! Very replaceable! John Elway suggested that he might be replaced next year! He is the definition of replaceable. And a very ifferent 4th Quarter? He Scored a TD! Wow! He must be an MVP! One TD!

"His passing game against the Chargers was also VERY good, I would say. But of course you wouldn't, so don't even bother. I'm aware of Tebow and I watch him play, otherwise I wouldn't post opinions in regards to how I feel about him and his VALUE to his team and the NFL. Yes very good. Sanchez has very good games also. Should he be MVP?

No because beards don't throw and run the football and lead a football team. You ever wonder if leadership also MIGHT be a factor?

The results can't be denied, and they should definitely lead you to think about what it means in regards to Tebow's ability. Just go watch the Broncos-Chargers game and tell me that that young man isn't VALUABLE to his team.

I feel like your mistaking Most Valuable Player for Person With The Best Stats Who Throws It Further And Higher And More Accurately Than Everybody Else. I take Most Valuable Player to mean exactly what it implies. Maybe this will help you understand why I chose Tebow and thus calm some of your excessive hostility.

Your general disrespect for other people is also unwelcome and has no place here. I understand that you feel very highly about yourself and the way you feel, but going around putting other people down because they disagree with you isn't going to make many friends (at least friends that I would want). Please find some way to release your anger, because its uncalled for and, frankly, it isn't supporting your point of view.

Thank you and have a merry Christmas!
