TEST PIE #1...Who is YOUR Recipe Guru???
My daughter (12) and I just put our test Pumpkin Pie in the oven. We are "pie makers" already - it's a family thing (gotta beat Grandma's pie!) Trying a modification to our old recipe based upon hints from America's Test Kitchen. Also a *huge* fan of Alton Brown. Both give scientific reason WHY they do what they do - appeals to the Engineer in me. Who is YOUR favorite recipe source?

I would say funny, but she is an elected official so its horrifying
Nelhybel (280 D)

I genuinely believe Herman Cain would be one of the strongest Presidents of the modern era, if elected. His no-nonsense method of tackling issues would bring back strong Regan-era foreign policy, and get our fiscal house in order.

I assume your comment refers to his interview with The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. This is a newspaper, and he paused to provide the optimum answer to be quoted when the paper was printed. When quoted in a document, they won't type [pause], as if they're issuing stage directions.

That point aside, the media has been the only person to say he doesn't know what Libya is, trying to read some sort of idiocy into his comments. This man is highly intelligent, and I just don't buy that.
Sicarius (673 D)
18 Nov 11 UTC
no I'm reffering to this. I heard audio of this so it is legit

HERMAN CAIN: I do not agree with the way he handled it for the following reason. (thinks) Um, nope. That's a different one.

HERMAN CAIN: I gotta go back to see, uh................. got all this stuff twirling around in my head.
ulytau (541 D)
18 Nov 11 UTC
Oh, he certainly fared better than Perry who couldn't remember the third ministry he would close if he won. Cain at least knew USA supported rebels against Qaddafi in Libya after he focused himself. However, that's something of an obligatory international policy minimum a regular citizen should know, hardly something worth praising for a presidential candidate.
ulytau (541 D)
18 Nov 11 UTC
You're both talking about the same thing, that's a transcript of the interview to TMJS. There's also a video of it.
Sorry but Cain is a total moron.

@Putin - not sure if you're sarcastic about Ron Paul or not but your list makes me think he is who I'd vote for.

Of course, I can't vote in the US and I lam largely uninformed on the candidates. I do know that there likely isn't anyone who can salvage that country.
Cachimbo (1181 D)
18 Nov 11 UTC
I would. But your democrats are like our conservatives...
ulytau (541 D)
18 Nov 11 UTC
Putin's list is what Paul would like to do. However, it seems to me he's gradually selling himself to social conservatives a bit after bit to gain some real foothold in the GOP so it's not like he would really get far with it. Of course that's just an outside view on the subject.
How is he selling himself to social conservatives? He's had the same position on social issues for forty years, and it's not the view social conservatives like anyway.
Nelhybel (280 D)
18 Nov 11 UTC
Thank you for providing the link, Eden.

I respectfully disagree regarding Cain. The man's life experiences and successes provide enough evidence regarding a great deal of intelligence on his part.

In addition, while Cain's responses do present an apparent lack of foreign policy knowledge, they actually are quite proper and truthful answers. The reality is, you can campaign now and say whatever the hell you want; but at the end of the day, unless you're totally nuts, you're going to be doing what the experts and military generals on the ground tell you is best.

We saw this with President Obama. He campaigned on the "pull out, pull out, pull out!" mantra, but as soon as he took office and began to consult with the experts, he realized that his plans were not feasible and had to take a different course of action.
Sicarius (673 D)

"However, it seems to me he's gradually selling himself to social conservatives a bit after bit to gain some real foothold in the GOP so it's not like he would really get far with it."

Paul has always been a social conservative and still is. He flip flopped on DADT recently, but he's against gay rights. He supports DOMA and the Protection of Marriage Act.

"He's had the same position on social issues for forty years, and it's not the view social conservatives like anyway."

Depends on the issue. On drugs, certainly not. But he's 100% "pro-life" and a gay hater.
Putin33 (111 D)
18 Nov 11 UTC
"Of course, I can't vote in the US and I lam largely uninformed on the candidates. I do know that there likely isn't anyone who can salvage that country."

Wasn't really that sarcastic. Why are the Canadians on here so rightwing? Mafia excepted.
Putin33 (111 D)

"@Putin: Paul doesn't want to militarize the border with Mexico... he is the only candidate who doesn't..."

Wrong. http://www.ronpaul.com/on-the-issues/border-security/

Paul voted for the Mexican fence.

http://www.issues2000.org/2012/Ron_Paul_Immigration.htm

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7U4RgUh5G38

"A: I don't like putting the burden on our businessmen to be the policemen. That means he has to be policing activity. But I have a strong position on immigration. I don't think that we should give amnesty and they become voters. But I do think we should deal with our borders. One way that I would suggest that we could do it is pay less attention to the borders between Afghanistan and Iraq and Pakistan and bring our troops home and deal with the border. But why do we pay more attention to the borders overseas and less attention to the borders here at home? We now have a mess on the borders, and it has a lot more to do with it than just immigration, because we're financing some of this militarism against the drug dealers on the borders right now to the tune of over $1 billion. And there is a mess down there, but it's much bigger than just the immigration problem."
Putin33 (111 D)
18 Nov 11 UTC
And RP has strong ties with the minutemen.
Nelhybel (280 D)
18 Nov 11 UTC
So Ron Paul wants to protect the border and this is bad? Further more, there is no question that Ron Paul is a social conservative. He has said he does not believe in evolution.

What makes him unique is that he doesn't want to force his beliefs on others. That makes him, well, awesome. I dislike him for other reasons, pertaining to national security / foreign policy.
Putin33 (111 D)
18 Nov 11 UTC
I didn't say it was good or bad (although if you want to know, yeah I think allying with racist anti-immigrant vigilantes and promoting a wall fence that results in more border deaths is bad). I'm saying he's a fraud of a libertarian and most people don't even know what he stands for.

"What makes him unique is that he doesn't want to force his beliefs on others."

Sure he does. How is he going to implement these libertarian policies? Magic?
Putin33 (111 D)
18 Nov 11 UTC
How a doctor can not believe in evolution is beyond me. How an OB/GYN can oppose abortion as he does is beyond incredible.
