Its not a popularity contest. I'm not writing anything like that. My suggestion is first teacher with first student, 2nd teacher with 2nd etc. Easy & simple, or if the students come up with their method of choosing is fine with me. Still looking for 1 more teacher to help out.

Since bas is the 8th "student" I think he should be a teacher.

If you're not comfortable, that's fine, but you're certainly a very good gunboat player and if your goal is to learn I expect being a teacher is also a great learning opportunity.

The reason I have asked to be a student is this: at some point during a game (when I get to 7-8 units), I feel I lose control of the situation. I cannot calculate/guess what's going to happen anymore, and my main strategy is to get lucky. When I see better players (ava, you, Troodonte, Czech, those sort of guys), it seems like they stay in control the whole time. This is the area I'd like to improve.

If you ask me to be a teacher, that's cool as well. I agree I can learn very much that way. Besides, I like the "students-pick-the teacher" idea.

Wouldn't it make more sense to learn from someone who plays different styles rather than someone who plays more or less the same as you?

It would be an honor for me to be part of this as probably teacher. Unfortunatly as I don't have the time needed dedicate to standard diplomacy games, I really don't have the time in my life at the moment to dedicate to try to help someone during a game by studying the board and writting advice for everyturn.

I pick IKE. He is modest, yet he has a sneaky, sly feeling about him.

I'm sort of stab happy compared to some other good gunboaters. I'll start playing the whole board for a draw pretty early rather than playing for the solo, and I think I'm a pretty cautious player. I generally open aggressively, in the hopes that I can make an ally early.

I would be interested in what other gunboaters have to say about their play style.
