Draws aren't new to diplomacy. They're a crucial part of the game.

Also no winner takes all does not mean draw takes a third...

I was France in that game Pete U, I just won the game that diplomancer83 got this idea from.
gameID=61855 - Turkey gets the idea from this one, because I was trying to convince people I only wanted a draw to make them help me, then when I was strong enough I launched my invasion and won the game.

I know they are not new and I understand them in very long games or stalemate lines and things of that like but now it just seems like most players are playing to the draw as a matter of course rather than even attempting the whole point of the game: a win. And to woofers yes I realize that but more often then not three ways are the most common. I'm just bored of seeing the same wait for austria to fall and two others (usually russia or germany, occasionaly the uk or italy) games.

Make a pole looking for players who would want to play a game where a Draw would not be an option. Everyone plays to win.

I am actually elated you chose to go for the win, but its not that game alone. I've had many games where its just a rush to be one of the "big three". Its all very anticlimactic and rather undermines what seems to be the intention and possibly a balancing part of the game.

I normally go for a draw because my allies demand everything from me so I am seeming weaker than all the people i trust, making me a prime target for a stab. Germany and Austria in that game would do whatever I told them to do, and it worked, more over because suspicion is high that they are the same person. Getting that checked though.

Only by being a large enough power to be considered a party to the draw do you stand a chance at going for the win.

diplomancer83, what I proposed once awhile ago was not a game where draw wasn't an option, but rather a game where a draw split the pot between all the non-CD players, eliminated or not. Basically, a draw would mean no one won so no one gets any gains from it, so might as well try for the solo. But draws could still happen as they naturally develop.

That is definitely a viable alternative Alderian, because as it is now it seems like people are being rewarded for basically half finishing a game and that this exasperates the weakness of certain countries even more or at best rewards stalemates.
