I think most of the players are keeping up with this thread.

The only one that is probably not keeping up is the stupitd Turk one that can´t even enter meaningfull moves....

Also, I still think Italy will solo.
If the reamaining powers want to survive they can´t count with Turkey and France, so Germany should move to StP, worst case it will take it but Russia disbanding that useless Rum fleet is not the end of the world. England should see the light and start to move south. Lon to EC with NS support and Clyde to NAO are completelly obvious. Also, Germany should take Par and cover Mars.

Suppose France bounces stp? now England is down a build. Even worse, suppose France moves to Norway... Russia AND England lose a build.

Well, I still think best option for Germany is move to StP. Russia can live without that Rum fleet and War can be exchanged next year so Russia can build another army. Germany can even move another unit to Nwy to bounce France.

Petry has decided not to prove who he is, but act as one country. I believe he is entitled to do that under the rules given in this thread.

I only wish i didn't know who the actual players were... FYI i'm austria.

England: your first priority is taking the NS back! Germany is exposed if you control the NS!
Kingdroid (219 D)
17 Jun 11 UTC
If England in any way fights Germany he is willfully giving the game to italy. Yes, it sucks that England lost Norway, but it was a necessary evil. Worst case right now is he disbands that useless army, and actually moves south and sets up a stalemate before Italy gets there.
rdrivera2005 (3533 D(G))
17 Jun 11 UTC
Well, if this wasn´t a gunboat and if I were any of the remaining powers (except Italy, of course) I will be messaging everybody to convince them to work against Italy. Something like that:
@Germany - You need to build two armies and next turn move Sil to Boh and another unit to Sil, with Russia support, also keep War open so Russia can eventually take it back to make up for an eventual Stp or Sev loss. Also, moving out of NS to give England some space seems a good idea. Supporting Gas into Mars seems another good option at this point.
@Russia - Russia should keep resisting, supporting Germany to Sil and keeping his centers.
@Turkey - Turkey will eventually die, but should keep fighting.
@France - Disband that north fleet and try to defend from Italy. If you have a center on the stalemate line, like Spa or Por you have a good shot at surviving and having both Mars, Por and Spa will give you a shot at not being killed.
@England - Disband that army and move your fleets to EC and NAO so you can try to take back MAO in case Italy move there.

And if I was Italy I will be really happy with my solo soon to come....
Kingdroid (219 D)
17 Jun 11 UTC
The solo is almost ineviatble. Bad play by burkey and a refusal by England to move South will be the cause of it.
JesusPetry (258 D)
17 Jun 11 UTC
I still think Germany is the biggest solo threat.
orathaic (1009 D(B))
17 Jun 11 UTC
turkey and russia have failed to hold the line against italy... it will now likely be only after warsaw and moscow have fallen that italy can be stopped.

germany equally needs to move south to help russia out before this becomes a serious problem...

on the other hand, for Russia it is a smart move to force Germany's hand by allowing Italian growth... England has also gotten into a position which may be sustainable for the moment. At present Germany can't fight all three fronts he might like (he's already given up his Russian invasion on the eastern front, but has the naval assault on england, land assault on france - two western fronts - and the land war in the center to worry about...)
Kingdroid (219 D)
17 Jun 11 UTC
Germany never really had a Russian invasion. he took the easy Warsaw, and then went west. The act of leaving Warsaw, i believe, is so that Russia could have taken it in the case that france took stp
rdrivera2005 (3533 D(G))
17 Jun 11 UTC
Well, the last builds and disbands shows some hope for the anti-Italy alliance. This game could end in a 4-way draw (or a 5-way) and Russia have already voted for the draw. I am pretty sure that Germany/Russia can hold at War/Mos/Sev line, so Italy will only have Rum and Ank and will need more 4 centers to solo. The main fight will be on the Mars/Spa/Mars/Mao line and if England can seal EC/Irish/NAO there is a good chance that a stalemate line is reached.
orathaic (1009 D(B))
17 Jun 11 UTC
it does look like warsaw is a typical gunboat communication to let russia make his gains while possibly losing Runamia thus solidifying their alliance (as germany takes norway to make up for it...)
orathaic (1009 D(B))
18 Jun 11 UTC
and yeah, russian invasions are silly... the north is worth invading, and it includes a russian home center (stp) but you get stalemated there... going west from germany can net you moscow and warsaw, but will take at LEAST two units to hold it, and will be rather difficult to hold with attackers both north and south to contend with (whether turkey/austria in the south, or england in the north)

The only benefit for a germany, imho, of attacking warsaw is that you weaken the russia in the east, and thus reduce the threat he poses. Which is of course strategically viable, though tactically it think it is often a dangerous game. Infact you also guarentee that russia will respond violently and if he manages to take either the east balkans (the area around the black sea) or the north (norway, sweden, stp) then your german will be in trouble.

in this circumstance, he has failed to hold the south even with turkish help, and failed to take the north - mainly due to the anglo-german alliance, but then little could be done about such a thing...
Kingdroid (219 D)
18 Jun 11 UTC
Well, in the case of this game, with the south the way it was, taking Warsaw was 100% viable, and allowed Germany to attack france without France expecting it.
orathaic (1009 D(B))
18 Jun 11 UTC
@Turkey: failure to work with russia will continue to ensure your demise; also failure to read/respond to this thread not help.
@Russia: 1 fleet in rumania is not enough, unfortunately 1 fleet is all you've got now, and the ideal would be to get a build (warsaw is open) and make sure it is a new fleet in sev.

ideally you need an army in rum to support gal to hold or attack, and a fleet in black sea to support rum to hold, alas i think it's too late for either strategy, and you should be sending an army to armenia to run distractions. It is almost time to assume rum and sev will fall and see how many italian units you can tie up behind his lines and for how long.

@West Germany, secure paris and support gascony to mars, it's the only way to stop/delay italian growth.

@France, you have no fleets so you're liable to lose iberia. Ok you have one fleet but it is in the wrong place. Germany can give you back brest for paris, and can give you marseilles, but you're only going to get aggression from italy, together with England you can fend off West German Advances, but it will only be a short time now before Italy is taking your centers.

@England, north sea here you come! of course you will not only be able to re-take the north (norway, stp?) maybe even sweden if you convoy an army over, you will also be able to guarentee a italian victory. Am i right in saying that since this isn't even a WTA game you may consider it a win to beat back the german, even while leaving france to be destroyed by italy (though he kinda deserves it) And weakening russia enough to give the game to your italian play-mate (who never attacked you... i mean, he never even had a chance :P )

no, i think preventing the solo is still your first duty, the GR is far more important that any points you may regain. (though i haven't bothered ctrl+f-ing the lot of you cause the GR list is too big for my computer to load.... mostly)

@East Germany, withdrawing from warsaw is classic gunboat communication, and this appears to be in fashion, that said, i think risking munich on the chance of taking bohemia (actually the guarantee of bohemia were munich to fall) would have gotten you a better position for the war in central europe... losing munich would still have left you with a center and no less than 5 armies surrounding it - thus your positioning would have been perfect to plough through italian armies, plus destorying the unit in munich in spring, which more than makes up for the short time he'd spend with your home territory.

@United German Front: your eastern ally is definitely onboard, you need to open the central front AND guarentee that you have a western ally to prevent the italian navy from entering the atlantic, at this point it looks like neither england nor france is going to be useful in this, and the solo it italy's... however i would point out that only weak players allow solos to happen, against the 'best of the best' solos are strikingly rare, (except for meta-reasons like in leagues and tournaments where it's more important to give someone a solo to prevent a competitor from getting a place in your draw...)

@Italy, what is there to say?

ankara is safe, you need an army in smy to advance, russia moving to armenia really damages your advance there. Pushing galacia will help you secure rumania, though this becomes even easier if russia goes south OR you take black sea (so let turkey into ank and you've guarenteed either rum or ank in fall) oh and don't worry, i'm 99% sure that turkey isn't reading this *Hi mum!*

i imagine taking the time to setup a convoy will not be worthwhile as my genius plan of letting turkey into ank has only a 1% chance of failure :p but you can do that with greece to ionian and venice to apu. Actually that's not so big of a delay...

in the west/med, unopposed move to MAO is super tempting, though convoying pie to spain (with support!) is also very good, and it doesn't look like france or england are going to give up their naval operations against germany anytime soon. Still i'd be very torn on that if it were me (and as i've said, i'm austria, so it's not me :p )

in the center i could advise, but you really don't need any, and unlike france/england/turkey, germany is likely reading this thread :p
orathaic (1009 D(B))
18 Jun 11 UTC
@Kingdroid, i actually disagree, given the state of the north and the austrian support against russia, i think germany would have been better off taking baltic/GoB and pushing to take stp and moscow - then probably leading back to norway and holding the line against the south without sev. That would have netted a bigger benefit - though the result would likely have been a more powerful france, and perhaps turkey, leaving a 4-way (GvF vs IvT) though i think converting a 4-way (into a solo) might be easier than the current position...

Still the Germany-Russian alliance has been very effective in this game, and i think taking warsaw did help in surprising france, and made the german warmachine nigh-on unstoppable, just running a little behind due to turkish incompetence.
Kingdroid (219 D)
18 Jun 11 UTC
I see what you're saying, although I believe that option was less desirable than this one, if one cannot see into the future. Who was to know Turkey would fall apart like a wet paper bag? I don't think anybody would have predicted that. If we entertain the notion of what would have happened if Turkey had played competently, Germany could be in a very strong solo position with all of France and England under control, with italy, turkey, and Russia as the ones struggling to stop him, rather than the current situation. This isn't to say italy has not played well. he has played quietly and smartly , and stabbed at the right time. He just got a bit of help from a crappy Austria and an incompetent Turkey.
orathaic (1009 D(B))
18 Jun 11 UTC
yes, agreed completely. Germany could have been working under the assumption that Turkey was competent, infact given the Turkish progress to that point there is no reason to have assumed otherwise... i believe i was predicting Turkish dominance in the south-east, though I was also clearly underestimating Italy...
Kingdroid (219 D)

Turkish dominance was assumed by most, I believe. I, for one, definitely underestimated italy.

This Time On Philosophy
In "The Odyssey" by Homer, Achilles, the elite hero of the Greeks, leads a large mass of unquestioning, robot-like followers, the Myrmidons, who are classically described as being "ant-people" in their nature. If we were asked which we'd rather be, a hero or a drone, most of us would choose the former, "drone" doesn't sound appealing...and yet, politically, we prefer the rule of masses over the few...so, which is preferable? Why? Elitists, Pluralists, ho! :)
