The actual result was so different from that predicted by the pollsters.
And yet the closer the media said the election was going to be the more money the candidates spent of advertising. Strange that.

51 States
I heard on the radio that there will be another non-binding vote in Puerto Rico to determine if they want to become a state. Other than the obvious problem of having a lot of out-dated flags, is there anyone who can tell me what the ramifications will be (for them as well as the current states)?

It's an Election Day Miracle
This is why we do this, folks. Miracles like this. A man dies, comes back to life, and his first question is, "Did I vote?"

Input on movie about US elections
Hey Guys,
I've been following the US Presidential elections and I want to know what movie you think would fit this evening (evening in Europe being now). I already watched the American President and Primary Colors (during earlier election periods), what do you recommend?

Debating game!
Here are the rules:
FirstPreviousNextLast

redhouse1938 (429 D)
31 Oct 12 UTC
A. I pick a topic (it can be about the game, or about anything else) and I am also the moderator

B. I ask a question (the questions are numbered 1, 2, 3, ...) and the line above my question consists of 10 asterisks, so people will know whenever a new debate starts and they can tune back in if they were bored.

C. Before the debate starts, 10 people respond by "yes" or "no" to the question. All extra information will not be considered part of the debate. After 10 correct answers the debate automatically starts, anyone can debate.

D. 50 debating posts may be made, after which the debate automatically stops.

E. 10 people then take another vote on the issue, these may or may not overlap with the previous group. The first ten person's votes are counted. You also add a name of a person who debated the best, but who is NECESSARILY on YOUR side at the END of the debate. The person who gains the most votes, picks the next topic of debate and becomes the moderator (enforcing the above rules and naming the winner in case of a tie).

E. The winner then restarts at A as moderator. The moderator may participate, and he'll have to mark his moderator comments by 10 hashtags, so as not to lose track.

There's some people on this site, including myself, who believe that "Bob Genghiskhan" could be a viable answer to my question. I would not include it in my count. Also, stuff like "maybe" and "yes and no" doesn't count.
achillies27 (100 D)

Bob Genghiskhan.

As long as abortion after the first trimester exists, we have a death penatly for the innocent. So why not keep a death penalty for the convicted?

Personally, I feel both should be abolished. It should not be within the purview of any human being's rights or priviledges to take another person's life, even when that person has taken others. The right to life should be sacrosanct. Once there are brainwaves and for as long as those brainwaves continue, no matter how disturbed the thoughts of the individual in question, their life should not be involuntarily forfeit.
redhouse1938 (429 D)

You're not playing by the rules Draug!! I'll list your answer as a "No."

Sorry, misread that. Long week at work. I thought you *wanted* the debate then the yes no vote on who won it. My bad. My answer is:

Yes

It *should* be removed (read my post again and you'll see that).

So we have 3x Yes and 3x No so far and are still waiting for 4 votes to be cast. Another poll we held after the debate, so we can see how effective every debating team has been. Did anyone manage to sway anybody else to the other side?
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

Red, what kind of debate are we supposed to use? I.E should we use moral debates, ethnic, economic, social, environmental, etc.?
redhouse1938 (429 D)
01 Nov 12 UTC
Do you mean arguments, instead of debates?
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
01 Nov 12 UTC
Yeah.
redhouse1938 (429 D)
01 Nov 12 UTC

Well, you can use any argument you like, in any category you like, in this case arguing in favor or against the death penalty. It's just that after 50 posts the debate automatically stops, a winner is picked during a new Yes/No poll and then we start a whole new debate.

I anticipate them being 36 hour phases, with a gentlemen's agreement to ready-up as soon as possible. 5 point bets. PW protected. Comment below if you'd like to play. Include whether you'd want to play in multiple games.

Correct Me If I'm Wrong, But...
…I don't think I am.

Wasn't it the Republican party that said that Hurricane Sandy was going to decide the election by stalling Obama's campaign? If that's the case, why are they so reasonably, so honestly switching sides to gain sympathy? I mean, they've never done that before….
