The actual result was so different from that predicted by the pollsters.
And yet the closer the media said the election was going to be the more money the candidates spent of advertising. Strange that.

51 States
I heard on the radio that there will be another non-binding vote in Puerto Rico to determine if they want to become a state. Other than the obvious problem of having a lot of out-dated flags, is there anyone who can tell me what the ramifications will be (for them as well as the current states)?

It's an Election Day Miracle
This is why we do this, folks. Miracles like this. A man dies, comes back to life, and his first question is, "Did I vote?"

Input on movie about US elections
Hey Guys,
I've been following the US Presidential elections and I want to know what movie you think would fit this evening (evening in Europe being now). I already watched the American President and Primary Colors (during earlier election periods), what do you recommend?

You should watch the Clint Eastwood film "High Plains Drifter". It's really good.

I've seen ID/ID4 and AFO to. Mars Attacks I haven't seen. The Candidate and Ides of March are now officially the shortlist. Keep em coming.

If it's politics...

It has to be Ian McKellan's "Richard III."

(Plenty of back-stabbing this campaign for sure!)

Okay Ides of March > Reading Wiki > Actually already seen it.
HBO TV series sounds interesting, is now on the shortlist,
Manchurian Candidate is on the shortlist,
Wag the Dog, I've seen that one and that one is truly fantastic, I'd almost forgotten that one, and we both know what you're gonna get for bringing it up, don't you Draug ;-)

@Obi - Why not Hamlet? Hell, brother kills brother to take wife and crown? Sounds like American politics to me!
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
06 Nov 12 UTC
And Macbeth, Draug!

Because nothing's more American than a Scot and his wife bumping off his leader and best friend for the leadership...

And CLEARLY the 3 Witches were Shakespeare's attempt to capture MSNBC, FOX, and CNN in a form his audience would understand.

That's right--

Shakespeare foresaw partisan punditry on cable television! ;)

And then there is Othello. Come on, black guy in charge. Truly evil huy behind the scenes manipulating it all. And Desdemona makes a nice anology to the Presidency.

PT 109 - Cliff Robertson played JFK. Less political and more war, but ploitics and war go hand in hand

In the Line of Fire - Clint Eastwood
Deep Impact
Absolute Power
The West Wing, series 7, episodes 16 and 17, "Election Day Parts 1&2".

However, I greatly recommend a special stand-alone episode from series 3 called "Isaac and Ishmael", which was written and produced a few weeks after 9/11, dealing with the questions and issues raised by the terrorist attack.
There's also the comedy film "Dave" which had the tag-line "In a land where anyone can become president *anyone* just did."
Draugnar (0 DX)
06 Nov 12 UTC
It's season 3. West Wing is an American production. Only you Brits insist on calling seasons "series". Now, I wouldn't call Doctor Who as a "season". I have the respect to call it a "series" so please have the same respect for *our* shows.

I forgot "Charlie Wilson's War". Excellent movie.
redhouse1938 (429 D)
06 Nov 12 UTC
Yeah West Wing is a pretty cool series too, I've seen all episodes.
Charlie Wilson's War is definitely cool.
I actually turned on The Candidate already but it's going to slow.
Dave is on the shortlist.

Altman's "Tanner 88" was a series about a presidential candidate. It was incredibly realistic and had some very rewarding moments.

I'm going to give a +1 to Draug's suggestion of Wag the Dog. I'll also suggest The Contender.
Duck Soup, and I'll +1 Mr.Smith Goes to Washington and Ides of March
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
06 Nov 12 UTC
^Oh, definitely Duck Soup, that gets my vote.

"The last guy who ran this place didn't know what to do with it,
If you think the country's bad off now just wait 'til *I* get through with it!"

Works no matter which candidate you support. ;)

Correct Me If I'm Wrong, But...
…I don't think I am.

Wasn't it the Republican party that said that Hurricane Sandy was going to decide the election by stalling Obama's campaign? If that's the case, why are they so reasonably, so honestly switching sides to gain sympathy? I mean, they've never done that before….
