Marvel vs DC
Taking this from the Great Debate thread. So who do you guys like better? Any match ups you'd like to discuss or what not. I'm personally a Marvel fan because I feel they use more shades of grey in their writing and plotlines.

Marvel as well. Wolverine has been my fav for about 15 years. Loved the Apocalypse alternate uni storyline... I need to get my hand on all of those compilations.

Black Panther versus Wolverine. Seems like a good matchup and could happen seeing as they are both Marvel.
Celticfox (100 D(B))

Wolverine would in that hands down. More experience, more training and the healing factor just sweetens the win.

@Lan Have you tried the Marvel digital comics? I know they're free to read at Starbucks or you can buy a yearly, unlimited subscription for about 60 dollars. It's so worth it. Over 10k comics at your finger tips.

That was the best thread derailment I've ever seen. Gandalf the White over Vader all the way. There is no way Iron man could take Professor X, not a chance. Though I would take iron man over wolverine.
ckroberts (3548 D)

jmo, Wolverine is practically immortal. Also, one thing I never knew: does Iron Man have computer assisted reaction time? I suppose he does because he's always dodging missiles etc, so I assume he does. Either way I favor Wolverine.

Confession: I have not read a new comic book all the way through in well over a decade.

Professor X over Iron Man, but Prof X could be taken down by let's say Franklin Richards. That kid is scary powerful.

All Iron Man would have to do is grab wolverine and fly him into space and drop him off for a ride in vacuum. Not positive but I think he needs air. Though now that I think about it Iron man might be able to set his suit on auto pilot to take out the professor

I wish I could come in and give DC some love, but I tend to only like DC series that involve the JSA or related characters. Starman, for instance, was a fantastic comic.

In general, I prefer Marvel since the emphasis is more on the guy behind the mask than on the masked persona. Some DC characters explore that to varying degrees, but rarely in the way Marvel does.
Celticfox (100 D(B))

That's assuming Iron Man could get a hold of Wolverine and still keep his arm.

@SD That's my other reason for loving Marvel.

Anyone else hate the perfect pricks like Cyclops from the X-Men or Superman?
Draugnar (0 DX)
05 Jun 12 UTC
@ck - Sure it's computer assisted same as a modern F-22 pilot gets computer assistance. The suit is a weapon just as the Batmobile or Nemo's Nautilus (LXG).
Celticfox (100 D(B))
05 Jun 12 UTC
After Extremis though it's a little more intergrated then the Batmobile.

Well if we're going into DC two words: Martian Manhunter

Is there anyone in the DC world that's like Doctor Strange?
Draugnar (0 DX)
05 Jun 12 UTC
Absolutely despise the goody two shoes. The 60s almost killed Batman with Adam West and Burt Ward in their perfect gentlemen crap. The onyl character form any medium who was "perfect" that I liked was John Steed of the Avengers (the British TV show, not Earth's Mightiest Heroes).

Iron Man had repulsor blasts from the early days so Wolverine could never get into hand to hand. Its like bringing a knife to a gun fight.
Randomizer (722 D)

Dr. Fate is the DC equivalent of Dr. Strange.
Draugnar (0 DX)

Iron Man could take out Wolverine from miles away then pick up the remains before you regrouped and pop him into orbit or even toss him at the sun from the edge of space.
Draugnar (0 DX)

before *he* regrouped...
Celticfox (100 D(B))

That is a good point.

I seem to recall Wolverine coming back from being practically just a skeleton.

As with any fight, the parameters are important in influencing the winner. Did Iron Man and Wolverine just decide they hate each other? Is one being sent to assassinate the other? Where is this fight taking place?
Draugnar (0 DX)

Has anyone else here seen the new Avenger's movie? I loved the fight between Iron Man and Thor.
Celticfox (100 D(B))
05 Jun 12 UTC
YES! Absolutely loved that scene. My husband hates the Marvel Misunderstandings though and hated that they had to fight.
Draugnar (0 DX)
05 Jun 12 UTC
Well, Batman and Superman have gotten into it in the past. Obviously not to the degree of that fight, but still.
Celticfox (100 D(B))
05 Jun 12 UTC
I'd take Thor over Superman any day.
Marvel > DC. As far as matchups, might as well go high power level: Darkseid vs. Thanos. Imperius vs. Galactus. The Presence vs. The One Above All. Anti Monitor vs. The Beyonder.

Or I'd take Mr. Fantastic vs. Plastic-Man.
Draugnar (0 DX)
05 Jun 12 UTC
The Hulk over both. The dude has no weaknesses. Hulk smash!

Not wanting to give too much away, but I love the scene at the end of one particular fight where Hulk just suddenly clobbers Captain America. No reason. He's just being Hulk.
Celticfox (100 D(B))
05 Jun 12 UTC
I loved Hulk versus Loki. And I loved the dialogue between Hawkeye and Black Widow. The hard thing in talking about the Avengers fr example is which team do you compare. The Avengers roster is pretty big when you look at everyone who has been an Avenger.
The same goes for the X-Men..

I saw Avengers 3x before I burned out, starting with the midnight show.
Zmaj (215 D(B))

In the late '80s, DC was behind "Watchmen", "Swamp Thing" and "The Dark Knight Returns". Those three titles alone are enough to surpass anything Marvel has ever produced.

HONY
My new favorite Facebook feed. Basically, Humans of New York photographs a person on the sidewalk and posts a brief story about the encounter or the subject's story a few times each day. Mostly human interest stories, but interjected with humor, philosophy, and life observations.

Experienced players
Please consider signing up as a mentor for the SoW games. I can almost guarantee you have played with at least 1 graduate from these games. They help new players learn how to play and they help older players meet a new group of talented players. There is less work in mentoring then in playing an extra game, so please sign up if you can.

Selling Points made Legal

Diablo 3 has changed the way we play online games. You can actually make money by selling items, gold and in game materials at a small commission to the Site. Diplomacy should do this too, think how much money Splitdiplomat and Czech could make, it would be like they had jobs suddenly. This seems like a great Idea for up and comer players like Zmaj who will only keep playing in hopes of unlocking achievements or something. May as well let them make some cash instead.

Suspected multi-account in live game
http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=90854

The game is anonymous and in progress now. Austria and Italy both looked like they were going to fail to submit orders in Spring 1901. Since then, Austria has been freely ceding his home supply centers to Italy and writing unlikely support orders.

Diplomacy as a learning tool?
So without being too specific, I teach an international relations course at a university. Since the last week will mostly be consumed with students writing their final papers and my class is oddly small (6 students), I'm thinking about playing a game of diplomacy with them in the last couple days.

Christians vs Atheists
Seeing as there is normally at least one of these debate threads a week, I thought I would just set this here and see if there is in fact any middle ground to be had. -> http://www.cracked.com/article_15759_10-things-christians-atheists-can-and-must-agree-on.html

Atheists, what do you think? Christians, how about you?
