Marvel vs DC
Taking this from the Great Debate thread. So who do you guys like better? Any match ups you'd like to discuss or what not. I'm personally a Marvel fan because I feel they use more shades of grey in their writing and plotlines.

HONY
My new favorite Facebook feed. Basically, Humans of New York photographs a person on the sidewalk and posts a brief story about the encounter or the subject's story a few times each day. Mostly human interest stories, but interjected with humor, philosophy, and life observations.

Experienced players
Please consider signing up as a mentor for the SoW games. I can almost guarantee you have played with at least 1 graduate from these games. They help new players learn how to play and they help older players meet a new group of talented players. There is less work in mentoring then in playing an extra game, so please sign up if you can.

Selling Points made Legal

Diablo 3 has changed the way we play online games. You can actually make money by selling items, gold and in game materials at a small commission to the Site. Diplomacy should do this too, think how much money Splitdiplomat and Czech could make, it would be like they had jobs suddenly. This seems like a great Idea for up and comer players like Zmaj who will only keep playing in hopes of unlocking achievements or something. May as well let them make some cash instead.

yebellz promotion
Sorry this took so long, but since abge has stepped down, we needed another admin help me out, so yebellz has been promoted from moderator to administrator. Please take a moment and congratulate him for all the hard work he's done for us on a volunteer basis and willingness to do more!

Also, we will be adding another moderator. The mod has been talked to and accepted, but I'm not announcing until he's trained and officially gained his moderator status.

Oh God no! Yebellz is the one mod I consider a total fuckup. he site just went to hell in a handbasket and I'm *not* enjoying this ride. Wasn't yebellz the one who fucked up and posted details about a multi on a banned players notes? Hasn't he been the *most* controversial mod making decisions the other mods then had to reverse? What the fuck were you all thinking making him an admin.

Thank God for VDip...
fortknox (2059 D)
04 Jun 12 UTC
yebellz made one mistake with a multi, and it was his first. Since then, he's been the most consistent mod and the one we get the least amount of complaints about.
We all have made mistakes, Draug. I've even made a few after being admin'ed. Ye made one as one of his first cases, learned a lesson, and hasn't made an issue since. Let it go.
Draugnar (0 DX)
04 Jun 12 UTC
No, he made two when he paused a game that should never have been paused. How slective your memory is FK. I like you dude, but Ye is not as good as you might think. I'd have rather seen any one of the other mods promoted over Ye.
fortknox (2059 D)
04 Jun 12 UTC
Also, as far as most controversial, I'd be near the top of the list. Abge and I used to argue a bunch on major decisions. We take moderating seriously and want to make the best decision for the site and players. Sometimes we have issues with one decision over another and debate about it behind the scenes until we agree the best course of action. I don't see where anyone could be called the 'most controversial' moderator unless you've seen the debates we've all had behind the scenes.
fortknox (2059 D)
04 Jun 12 UTC
I'm pretty sure I was the one who made that pause, Draug... he's the one that took the flames because he was accused without any proof.
gEOFRAM ISN'T A MODERATOR ANYMORE RIGHT?
rokakoma (19138 D)

If you guys are talking about Babak's game pause (which I think you are) I think it was fortnox too.
Draugnar (0 DX)
04 Jun 12 UTC
I'm pretty sure he admitted it. Maybe he just opted to take the hit for you, but either way...

And controversy behind the scenes we don't see, only in front of them. Generally speaking, Ye is the name that comes up most on the forums as controversial. What you guys argue about behind the scenes is your business, but since that first fuck up, Ye has been controversial.

Yebellz is a quality individual and everyone knows it, what with him as Admin and Romney as Republican candidate, I can see things will only go from strength to strength. What next, Madoff chair of the Fed !!
Yebells is great. he is proactive, creatively solves problems and has demonstrated passion. He is a positive force on the moderator team.

Seriously, is Geofram still a moderator? This would be a travesty.
Draugnar (0 DX)
04 Jun 12 UTC
I agree. Geo would be a great admin!
No, Geofram is the least reliable character on ths website. He has no ability to keep a promise, a schedule or even respect a commitment. Further, a group of players have been stuck in limbo for upwards of a month since he cannot take the time to give even the smallest update on the status. This reflects on his integrity. Without even commenting on how he actually handles his moderator duties.......
fortknox (2059 D)
04 Jun 12 UTC
Geo is still a mod, but schooling has taken his time.

I didn't realize how polarized people are on the mods. I wonder how people will take my decision on the next mod... should be interesting, though I'm pretty sure he is very well liked.
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))

I think Geofram should be commended for his charity work and the care of his`elderly relatives.....
fortknox (2059 D)
04 Jun 12 UTC
Active mods are Thucy, Geo, Zultar, and the new mod.
Active admins are FK and Ye.
I understand that people have commitments outside of this website. However, is is ridiculous that he was willing to commit to somethign he obviously was not able to follow through on. It is even worse that he ahs neither taken the time to explain himself or even offer an apology.

There is absolutely nothing redeemign about Geofram's on-site personality.

Maybe some other mod should look into Lando's issue as it sounds like Geo dropped the ball on it.

Next thing you'll be telling me is the Egyptian people are just about to vote a member of the Muslim Brotherhood as their new President, I know, crazy isn't it, out of the frying pan and into the Diplomacy website !!
jmo1121109 (3812 D)

To be clear, it was Yell who admitted to pausing the game Draug and rokakoma are referring too, I specifically remember Abge saying he had to overturn yell's pause. That aside I don't think he is a bad mod, and I haven't had any issues with him since. Geofram on the other hand comes off as uncaring and basically an all around ass on email requests and on the forum in general. Never had a problem with the rest of the mods/admins.
Sargmacher (0 DX)

If it was meant genuinely that our views will be taken into account then I just want to say that I agree with Jmo, Lando, and Draugnar: Geofram does not represent the mod team well.

Thanks for your contribution to the site, yebellz.

And well done to President Eden on finally becoming a mod. Well deserved.

yebellz is already being a bully in the Agent K was banned thread. Power went straight to his fucking head. I'll say it here just as I did there. Yebellz - Fuck off. You can kiss my smelly white ass with your opinion over there.

Draugnar (0 DX)

@Nigee - everyone has been abusive to you just as they have at one point or another to me. It's the nature of being an asshole.
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))
04 Jun 12 UTC
Alright that's OK then, I retract my statement, PRESIDENT EDEN IS NOT A COMPLETE AND UTTER DICK and anything I've ever said to imply this should be ignored. I can say without hesitation he is a good man nay a Great Man.
Please also ignore the many things he has also said on this forum that may lead you to the same conclusion.

Suspected multi-account in live game
http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=90854

The game is anonymous and in progress now. Austria and Italy both looked like they were going to fail to submit orders in Spring 1901. Since then, Austria has been freely ceding his home supply centers to Italy and writing unlikely support orders.

Diplomacy as a learning tool?
So without being too specific, I teach an international relations course at a university. Since the last week will mostly be consumed with students writing their final papers and my class is oddly small (6 students), I'm thinking about playing a game of diplomacy with them in the last couple days.

Christians vs Atheists
Seeing as there is normally at least one of these debate threads a week, I thought I would just set this here and see if there is in fact any middle ground to be had. -> http://www.cracked.com/article_15759_10-things-christians-atheists-can-and-must-agree-on.html

Atheists, what do you think? Christians, how about you?
