Daily Christian Slaughter Thread
Perhaps I'm just glib. I guess I understand that Jesus might want to test his flock by making them martyrs every once in a while, but why would he allow them to massacre innocents in his name? This thread will explore this question, semi daily.

Our first example is the massacre of Non--Christian residents at Tripolitsa after Greek Revolutionaries broke through the cities defenses during the Greek War of Independence.
_______________________

In the three days following the capture of the city, Muslim and Jewish inhabitants of Tripolitsa were exterminated. The total number of Muslims killed during the sack was estimated by Thomas Gordon, who arrived in the city shortly after its fall, at 8,000.[19] Beyond the 2,500 Albanian troops vouched for in advance; a tiny contingent of Turkish cavalry escaping to Nauplion; a few women who were taken as slaves; along with the harem of Hurshid Pasha; and a few notable Turks held for ransom were spared.[20]

Describing the massacres that occurred following the capture of Tripolitsa, historian W. Alison Phillips noted that:

"For three days the miserable inhabitants were given over to lust and cruelty of a mob of savages. Neither sex nor age was spared. Women and children were tortured before being put to death. So great was the slaughter that Kolokotronis himself says that, from the gate to the citadel his horse’s hoofs never touched the ground. His path of triumph was carpeted with corpses. At the end of two days, the wretched remnant of the Mussulmans were deliberately collected, to the number of some two thousand souls, of every age and sex, but principally women and children, were led out to a ravine in the neighboring mountains and there butchered like cattle."[21]

Kolokotronis says in his memoirs:[22]

"Inside the town they had begun to massacre. ... I rushed to the palace ... "If you wish to hurt these Albanians," I cried, "kill me rather; for, while I am a living man, whoever first makes the attempt, him will I kill the first." ... I was faithful to my word of honor ... Tripolitsa was three miles in circumference. The [Greek] host which entered it, cut down and were slaying men, women, and children from Friday till Sunday. Thirty-two thousand were reported to have been slain. One Hydriote [boasted that he had] killed ninety. About a hundred Greeks were killed; but the end came [thus]: a proclamation was issued that the slaughter must cease. ... When I entered Tripolitsa, they showed me a plane tree in the market-place where the Greeks had always been hung. I sighed. "Alas!" I said, "how many of my own clan — of my own race — have been hung there!" And I ordered it to be cut down. I felt some consolation then from the slaughter of the Turks. ... [Before the fall] we had formed a plan of proposing to the Turks that they should deliver Tripolitsa into our hands, and that we should, in that case, send persons into it to gather the spoils together, which were then to be apportioned and divided among the different districts for the benefit of the nation; but who would listen?"

There were about one hundred foreign officers present[citation needed] at the scenes of atrocities and looting committed in Tripolitsa, Friday to Sunday. Based on eyewitness accounts and descriptions provided by these officers, William St. Clair wrote:

"Upwards of ten thousand Turks were put to death. Prisoners who were suspected of having concealed their money were tortured. Their arms and legs were cut off and they were slowly roasted over fires. Pregnant women were cut open, their heads cut off, and dogs' heads stuck between their legs. From Friday to Sunday the air was filled with the sound of screams... One Greek boasted that he personally killed ninety people. The Jewish colony was systematically tortured... For weeks afterwards starving Turkish children running helplessly about the ruins were being cut down and shot at by exultant Greeks... The wells were poisoned by the bodies that had been thrown in..."[3]

"The Turks of Greece left few traces. They disappeared suddenly and finally in the spring of 1821 unmourned and unnoticed by the rest of the world....It was hard to believe then that Greece once contained a large population of Turkish descent, living in small communities all over the country, prosperous farmers, merchants, and officials, whose families had known no other home for hundreds of years...They were killed deliberately, without qualm or scruple, and there was no regrets either then or later."[23]

The massacre at Tripolitsa was the final and largest in a sequence of massacres against Muslims in the Peloponnese during the first months of the revolt. Historians estimate that upwards of twenty thousand Muslim men, women and children were killed during this time, often with the exhortation of the local clergy.[24][25][26]

Steven Bowman believes that, although the Jews were murdered, they were not targeted specifically, in fact: "Such a tragedy seems to be more a side-effect of the butchering of the Turks of Tripolis, the last Ottoman stronghold in the South where the Jews had taken refuge from the fighting, than a specific action against Jews per se."[27]

During the siege, eight Greek Orthodox prelates of Peloponnese were incarcerated inside the city, and five of them died before the fall.[28]

Oh, wikipedia, what a good source.

I suppose we should ignore the destruction of Constantinople, the Samothrace massacre, and the Chios massacre eh. British historians love the Turk for whatever reason.
Irrelevant.
Putin33 (111 D)
29 May 12 UTC
Irrelevant? Really? In a war of annihilation the series of preceding massacres which took place by your beloved Ottomans was irrelevant?

Who are you, Invictus?

Stop copying and pasting wikipedia.
Its obviously irrelevant because Jesus doen't preach nor believe in revenge, or an eye for an eye. As Mujus will tell you, he believes in love and repentance and dancing bunnies and teddy bears. Revenge is just so Jewi... old testament.
and obviously I should practice on the art of incorporating Wikipedia knowledge in my posts as if it was my own thought. More intellectually honest in Stalinist circles I presume

I don't get what you are arguing.... That Christians did bad things? Because I don't think anyone is going to disagree with you...
Putin33 (111 D)
29 May 12 UTC
So your defense against plagiarizing wikipedia is to accuse me of reading wikipedia and not telling people I read it. Ok. Good one. Followed by the obligatory 'Stalinist' pejorative. So clever.
On the contrary, I am arguing that Christians did alot of bad things to innocent people which make all of Muju's passages about a just and forgiving Jesus a mockery.

How can Jesus let centuries of massacres continue to occur in his name. In Judaism it could be expected, the jewish god can get a little testy. Islam as well. What about Jesus who only knows love and forgiveness and did away with all that nasty old testament stuff anyway.

Is the answer Free Will?

An omnipotent force allows its followers to massacre innocents and therefor sully his name and his message. Yet he has the power to answer personal prayers and redeem formerly evil people like Mujus. Why couldn't he work some of that Mojo right before a crowd of women and children were forced to walk off a cliff in his name?

Is Satan acting in Christ's guise? If that is so that opens a whole new can of worms? how do we know that the whole impulse to convert and exclude non-believers in not just another one of Satan's tricks to sow dissension among us. Or perhaps Christ was doing satans work all along and this is just the continuation. Tricky stuff this thinking thing.

So to answer TBs question, the argument is this, we cannot see Christ as an all powerful, all loving, all forgiving, and all just when he has allowed hate, revenge, and injustice to reign IN HIS NAME up to this very day.

yes it was plagiarism, I left the footnotes in there because I was trying my hardest to make it seem like my own work. In my view, reading wikipedia and removing any overt signs of wikipedia, then passing the knowledge off as your own without citing is much worse, but what do i know. This too is irrelevant. I concede my original post was from wikipedia, apologize for not explicitly stating it, and will be sure to inform everyone in the future the selection i chose is from wikipedia.

"You Stalinist"

Thanks, Yair Stern. I feel much better now.
Damn, I at least hoped to be compared to a Korean or Chinese murderous thug, I guess my Jewish roots keep me close to home though. What kind of brave new world are you running here Putin where even anti capitalist pejoratives are racially segmented.
Putin33 (111 D)
29 May 12 UTC
More perplexing question than Mujus falsely claiming Jesus was a loving "god" is the weirdness of Jews celebrating the Maccabean revolt against the Selucids, which led to the invasion of Judea by Rome and the creation of the Jesus sect to begin with. Talk about a Pyrrhic victory.

Source: Christopher Snitchens, else Santa will claim I'm reading wikipedia and not telling people, which is worse than out and out copying and pasting without attribution, naturally.
Putin33 (111 D)

Stern is an anti-capitalist pejorative? I figured someone who rails against Stalin as much as you would have preferred a German victory.
Never used it as a pejorative. Just stating of all the fascists (that is the better word) you could have chosen, I had to get the one most likely to have had a Bar Mitzvah. Quite a coincidence.

But, irrelevant

If some Christians kill people for not being Christian does this mean the Christian religion is responsible? Does that necessarily follow?
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))

Anybody who believes in the Rapture supports genocide and mass murder perpetrated by God ....... how can these people be trusted, they are the spawn of Satan !!
How can a normal human being support and accept without question such a horrific act against humanity .... these people are sick sick puppies and the worst thing they are so arrogant they can't even see it, that's what religion has done to them, fucked their brain up !!
"If some Christians kill people for not being Christian does this mean the Christian religion is responsible? Does that necessarily follow? "

Of course not! If there is no truth to the religion, then it was just some people reading a book in a certain way to justify their murderous tendencies. Mujus and you, as well as a collection of papers that ostensibly preach peace are are certainly not culpable for the murders of innocents hundreds of years ago!

But if there is actually a big boss man in the sky who cares about love and forgiveness, wouldn't he want to end the killing of innocents in his name? And if he doesn't is he not responsible?

Change the word Christian for the word Muslim in your last statement. Since 9/11 there has been a terrible backlash against Islam because of Al Qaeda, you've had people in the states burning the Koran. I think the religious right-wing in the states have already answered your question, but it's not they who are the victims, they are the aggressors

" I had to get the one most likely to have had a Bar Mitzvah. Quite a coincidence."

Right, because calling you a Nazi would have made sense.
Putin33 (111 D)
29 May 12 UTC
When did Santa turn anti-religious? This conversion must have happened within a month or so ago, because not long ago he was holding hands with evangelicals and taking potshots at atheists.
Sure, because after all the Nazis had pure breeding and lacked any Jew blood, right? At least I could have gotten Franco or something. Why must there be a glass cieling for fascist pejoratives used against Jewish people?
I just want to be denigrated like everyone else Putin , not just as a Jew, is that too much to ask.

If you prick us, do we not bleed? If we use the term Stalinist, do we not at least merit the possibility of being compared to Sygman Rhee?
Putin33 (111 D)
29 May 12 UTC
Because most of them were Catholic anti-Semites, genius (doesn't prohibit you from bashing their opponents mercilessly, but whatever). But it's obviously a racist plot to finger you for being Jewish, and not, you know, a retort in kind from your pathetic commie hate. You invoke Stalin, but I'm anti-Semitic for mentioning the Stern gang of the same era. Got it.

Cool, I'll cop to being Anti-Georgian. That should put me back in your good graces and maybe the discussion will tack back on topic.

Buying a Truck
So, I'm thinking of buying a truck with my parents to help them with yard work. It will mostly be for picking up mulch and trees, bringing the lawnmowers for maintenance, and I'd like to use it to plow their driveway. I'm thinking a Ford Ranger from '95-'00. Thoughts?
