Non-full Games?
I have a group of friends, and occasionally we like to get a live game going. Sometimes, however, we are unable to gather enough people for a full game, even for the Ancient Mediterranean variant. Some sites allow for a rule change if there are less than seven players (6 players = no Italy; 4 players = 1 person plays as 1 power, the other three play as a pair; etc.). Is there any way to do that on this site, or are we stuck with trying to scrounge up players to fill the game?

10 Favourite countries in the world and why?
Write bellow. Pardon my English.
FirstPreviousNextLast

1) My beloved nation of Germany, though we have had our faults we were able to have an interesting and diverse history. Special thanks to my beloved Heimaterde of Bayern whose kingdom dominated central Europe until 1871.

2) Hungary, home of the Magyar, land of the Huns. A country stooped in national pride and heritage. With a unique language and great history, I have great respect for the Magyar.

3) France, noble people with a beautiful language and population. The capital of Paris has been a favourite of mine to frequent at night.

4) Japan, people who know to respect their history and combine their past and present. Cutting edge and respectful, their culture is a blend of old and new ideas.

5) United States of America, their ideas of freedom and justice for all have been an inspiration to nations all over the world, including my own.

6) Russia, a great language and old and mysterious nation, the interest in mine is the diversity of the nation.

7) United Arab Emirates, the jewel of the sands. Specifically Dubai, this land is full of glory and finance, giving it an air of luxury.

8) Ghana, a blossom in West Africa, and the seat of anti-Imperialism and Pan-Africanism makes this the jewel of greater Africa.

9) Kenya, a proud East African nation with the great history of the proud Kenyan tribes. The savannah of the area is home to many great animals.

10) United Kingdoms of England, Wales, Scotland, and North Ireland & The Republic of Ireland, these two nations may have been stooped in a bloody conflict for the last couple of centuries, but this extension of Europe has some beautiful terrain and a twist and turned history as diverse as it's colonies.

1. North Korea. Who can't admire their great leadership in maintaining an Orwellian state for sixty years?
2. Iran. Sticking a nuke-middle-finger at the US...bravado at its best.
3. Venezuela. You gotta love a country who produces leaders capable of insulting heads of states as fascists.
4. Russia. Exemplifies the art of holding a whole continent hostage with the same stuff that you find in fart.
5. China. They have mastered the art of calling capitalism "communism". Big Brother has taught them well the art of doublethink.
6. USA. Superpower, and unashamed of flexing muscles. Has an unfortunate tendency of picking losing battles though.
7. Germany. One nation who controls the survival of twenty-odd more. Awesome.
8,9,10. Nah.

1) Serbia - Always on the right side of history. Rich literary tradition. I speak the language. Beautiful country with an amazing capital, Belgrade. I've never felt more at home than in Serbia.

2) China - I spent six months here. Ancient civilization with a 5,000 year history. Cultural riches that are unsurpassed. So vast and diverse. You could spend half a lifetime here and still not see everything there is to see.

3) - Russia: Always wanted to visit Moscow. The savior of western civilization. Great arts and literary tradition.

4) - Greece: Another country that is always on the right side of history. The creators of western civilization.

5) - Egypt - My wife's family is from here. The cultural heart of the Arab world.

6) - Cuba - Shining example of socialism in a sea of hostility and terrorism

7) - Venezuela: The Bolivarian revolution is the most exciting and inspiring event to happen in quite a while

8) - Mozambique - A country that many view with awe and respect due to their heroic status as part of the anti-imperialist/anti-apartheid struggle. Another that I've always wanted to visit.

8) - Nicaragua: Progressive government, volcanoes, beautiful rainforests. Amazing country that I need to visit.

9) - Zimbabwe: Heart of the anti-imperialist struggle in Africa. Besieged by the West, but still standing strong for racial equality and land reform.

10) Congo, Brazzaville: Fascinating history. Amazing biodiversity. Always wanted to visit this region.

Putin is quite right about the Bolivarian revolution in Venezuela, however. What could be more exciting than having Chavistas on motorbikes taking potshots at you when you're on an anti-government protest? The deep hatred Chavez has managed to cultivate between different segments in Venezuelan society gives even the most mundane of activities the potential to raise one's blood pressure to near paniced levels of excitement!

The only thing not remotely exciting is the sadly predictable election night.

You know, Putin, you're right again. Naive of me not to realise that those massed ranks of students, mothers, teachers, fathers (even the occasional nun) were in reality crack ninja assassins in cunning disguises. Clearly they arranged for themselves to get shot at purely for their vile media manipulation.

Thank goodness Chavez had the wisedom to supply his own supporters with machine guns and train them in the militias to even things up before it was too late!

"One name, Invictus: Naser Oric."

Looking up the name, I see he was convicted of killing five Serbs and mistreating eleven others. Even if that (eventually reversed) conviction by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and the other charges (which he was acquitted of) were true that would pale in comparison to the massacre of 8,000 in Srebrenica and other crimes committed by Serb forces. The barbaric Siege of Sarajevo comes to mind.

"And nevermind that Serbia was not a party in the conflict in BiH, so you're off the mark again."

Then why was Slobodan Milosevic there to sign the Dayton agreement? And are Serbs living in Bosnia who established the Republika Srpska and sought union with Serbia really such a different animal than Serbia proper? No, especially when the Bosnian Serb army had the full backing of the rump Yugoslavia. These people wanted a Greater Serbia, which presumably would have included Serbia. To pretend that Serbia (or, more properly, Yugoslavia) was just sitting idly by while Serbs in Bosnia committed atrocious acts shows just how absurd your ideas can be.

To be clear, I'm defending the actions of Croats or anyone else who committed war crimes in the long series of wars which broke up Yugoslavia. I'm merely pointing out how ridiculous to make the blanket statement that Serbia is always on the right side of history. Whatever that means...
Putin33 (111 D)
28 Nov 11 UTC
You don't know what the fuck you're talking about. If you have to look up the name Naser Oric then you have nothing worthwhile to say about Srebrenica or anything else about Bosnia. There was no "Siege" of Sarajevo.

Ideology aside, Putin, surely you must admit that the concept of a government establishing a national militia made up solely of people who support said government is a wee bit on the dodgy side?

Wikipedia. You know, for all of your endless whining about my alleged use of wikipedia, that seems to be the sole font of your knowledge about various complicated subject matters about which you make bold and unsubstantiated claims.

Serbs lived for centuries in Sarajevo. To claim it was a "siege" is to ignore two important things.
1 - Sarajevo was a divided city like Beirut. It was not attacked from some Serbian population who lived elsewhere.
2 - The Serbian population of Sarajevo was under constant attack, from Muslims who used schools, hospitals and other civilian structures to engage in sniper and other attacks.
3 - The UN admits the Muslims were responsible for the market bombing, which was blamed on the Serbs.

Karadzic is an anti-communist and is no leftist. Please continue running your mouth based on nothing but wikipedia and your own knee jerk propensity to believe everything you've ever heard of been told.

"Putin, surely you must admit that the concept of a government establishing a national militia made up solely of people who support said government is a wee bit on the dodgy side?"

You mean like the National Guard? Name a country that doesn't have such forces.
Putin33 (111 D)
28 Nov 11 UTC
Is it a 'wee bit dodgy' or orchestrate a bloody coup, use the media to advocate terrorism and foreign intervention against your own government, and engage in repeated economic sabotage? Or is that normal?

Invictus (240 D)
28 Nov 11 UTC
"You know, for all of your endless whining about my alleged use of wikipedia, that seems to be the sole font of your knowledge about various complicated subject matters about which you make bold and unsubstantiated claims."

I've never said that about you. Look through the records of my posts.

As for it being the sold font of my knowledge, that is untrue. I merely thought posting the Wikipedia article would be a good way to prove that there was a Siege of Sarajevo. I've also watched a documentary about it a while back, and I read what Christopher Hitchens wrote about his time there. I'm not claiming to be an expert, but I know enough to see your Serb apologia as the bull shit it is.

And anyway, your definition of a siege is ludicrous. The city was surrounded by Serb artillery and bombarded for years. That's a siege.
Octavious (2701 D)
28 Nov 11 UTC
Repeated economic sabotage seems to be standard practice is most established democracies these days, mores the pity. As far as organising coups etc etc go, obviously that is not normal or right, but I am not trying to defend the lunatic elements of the Venezuelan opposition. You can not use the insanity of a government's enemies to justify the insanity of the government, otherwise you could pretty much justify every crackpot regime in the history of the planet.

Most of Chavez's opposition are decent, honest, and sincerely worried about the genuine abuses of power Hugo is indulging in. The ease at which you dismiss them is as concerning as your willingnes to overlook the dark side of the Chavez government.
Putin33 (111 D)
28 Nov 11 UTC
Hitchens? Very good source, that one. I guess you'll even believe Hitchens if he says what you want to hear. Hitchens foray into neo-conservatism was sparked by his infatuation with the mujahadeen's cause in Bosnia. Maybe he liked the idea of jihadists playing soccer with the heads of their beheaded victims. This is the same drunken blowhard who defended the destruction of Fallujah.

Muslims kidnapped Serbs and held that at Marshall Tito barracks and kept firing at Serbs throughout the city with their own mortar fire. Serbs responded to those attacks because Muslims refused to agree to a ceasefire and kept firing from civilian positions (which has been attested to by international observers like Philippe Morillon, the French general who commanded the UN forces from 1992-1993). According to David Harland, who was in charge of UN peacekeeping in Bosnia, the Muslims violated over 500 attempts by the UN to implement a ceasefire.

The Mujahadeen put their own people in the crossfire in order to provoke international intervention. This a well-known tactic that people like you are always apt to point out when Israel is involved, but don't seem to think it's possible in the case of Sarajevo.
Invictus (240 D)
28 Nov 11 UTC
Like I said, there were awful things on both sides. But as usual, you whitewash your guys from all wrong doing and make any people opposed to them irredeemable monsters.

Keep on believing what you want, Putin33. The ICTY was convinced otherwise. It must get lonely defending such indefensible opinions.
Invictus (240 D)
28 Nov 11 UTC
I'd also like at least a mea culpa on your part for the Wikipedia jab. I've never done that to you.
Putin33 (111 D)
28 Nov 11 UTC
"Most of Chavez's opposition are decent, honest, and sincerely worried about the genuine abuses of power Hugo is indulging in."

And Chavez's supporters who were mowed down by this "decent, honest" opposition that is richly paid off by the wealthiest sectors of Venezuelan society, what are they?

It's easy to ignore the fact that in every Latin American country where a remotely left of center government comes to power, the super-rich within that country, with connivance of foreign interests, orchestrate a mass campaign to demonize the leftist leadership, create civil unrest in the country, organize coups to overthrow the government, and often succeed leading to a bloodbath. How many rightwing generals have taken power throughout Latin America under the pretense of supposed anti-constitutional behavior by progressive governments that dare to challenge their stranglehold over the wealth of the country? They are too numerous to name. The anti-Chavez hordes will whine about constitutionalism in order to justify their usurpations of power, like what happened in Honduras, which was universally hailed by the western media.

Adam Bomb (100 D)
28 Nov 11 UTC
Sounds like exaggeration from both sides, emotions from both sides. I'm in no position to strike down either view here because I have no clue what you're both currently talking about. Putin, when you sacrifice your integrity via cursing etc. you show only that your are losing.

Don't go cursing me about blaming the democrats for foul language, I've done nothing of the sort, and I say this to prevent you from exaggerating what I say like you do on some of the other threads. (Notice how I said "some of the other threads" instead of "all of the other threads".)
Putin33 (111 D)
28 Nov 11 UTC
The ICTY is the same organization that led people like Oric and Haradinaj out in the street and murdered Milosevic while he was in custody. It was created to persecute Serbs and absolve everyone else, including and especially NATO war criminals who can't even be brought up on charges. The idea that this organization has the final word on truth is a joke. Chief Prosecuter Del Ponte wrote an entire book about how she knew about Albanian crimes against Serbs via organ trafficking, but did nothing about it and did not raise a single charge. She routinely criticized other officials if they're not sufficiently anti-Serb.
