Should +1 bump a thread?
In light of all the new uses for the +1 feature, should it also bump a thread? The con would be that the front page would have threads without new replies while new replies might be buried. Thoughts?

A Tribute to Mr. Calhamer
Draugnar pointed out that this is the creator of Diplomacy's 80th birthday coming up this December 7th and I've got an idea on how we can say thanks in a way that shows him just how many and how far his game has captured across the world.

Those interested in participating will need to sign a blank white sheet of paper in black marker/sharpie ink with their webDip name and a defining feature of their origin. (Prominent City, State, or Country) So mine would be "Geofram - Virginia" or "Geofram - Toronto". You MUST hand write this (with a black marker!), scan it at the highest resolution you're able, and send it to me.

I'll pick up or find a diplomacy board. (Will need to know which edition had the largest board with the most writing space, so someone help me there) and using my creepy skill with graphology and photo manipulation, I will sign the board *for you* in as close to your original hand as humanly possible.

I wanted to send the board around the world and take turns signing it, but that would cost a lot more, take time we might not have for "everyone." and if it gets lost in the post or forgotten then we're cooked.

The last day to send me scans will be November 20th, but if I end up getting a thousand names and have to have a cut off point for space's sake, I will go on a first received - first signed basis, so send them ASAP.

You can send scans to lytle dot zack at gmail dot com.
If you seriously cannot scan, and I mean, even your local library or that aunt you hate doesn't have a scanner, you can PM me and we can work out some sort of snail mail option. And remember, highest resolution possible!

Great idea! I'll try to scan mine in tomorrow when I'm at the library.

Awesome! Just remember to make it blank white paper, lines can throw me and the software off or just create more work. And also remember to use a sharpie or some other black felt marker. It is near impossible for me to replicate a signature from such extreme difference in medium.

I'm going to his birthday party but before it is over I am going to take as many of his presents as possible. Cake and SCs as well.
Geofram (130 D(B))
18 Oct 11 UTC
SuperSteve, do you actually know him? I'm pursuing a few avenues of finding out his mailing address to send the board to and don't want to be stuck if those don't pan out.
2ndWhiteLine (2611 D(B))
18 Oct 11 UTC
Great idea. Short of scanning, you could also take a picture of your signature and upload/email it, which is probably a bit easier for most people. As for the board, maybe an original Diplomacy board from the first release would be appropriate?
SuperSteve (894 D)

No. I was just making a stupid joke.
Geofram (130 D(B))

The original board is actually pretty small. The edition of the board doesn't matter as long as it accommodates everyone's signature.
Geofram (130 D(B))

Seriously? I thought there would be more interest than this. The guy invented Diplomacy for God's sake!

semck83 (229 D(B))

OK Geofram. I'll do this if I can. Getting access to a scanner will be a pain. Also, if this is some scam to get all our signatures and screw us, you WILL go down. :-P

Remember, I'm not looking for your real name. I'm looking for you to sign your webDip name and your home town/state/country.

Yeah I'm in it's just that I leave Monday for the bush and I won't be back before Nov 20.

I don't really have scanner access so I don't know what to tell you.
I'm in.

I'll send you mine once I find some black marker. Since I'll probably have to buy it, is there any preffered width of the trail?
Diplomat33 (243 D(B))

I will make one. This game has brought additional entertainment to my life, so I want to say thanks. We should do the same for kestas when it is his birthday. I never knew the guy was still alive!

18 Oct 11 UTC
we should invest in a trust fund, something with a decent higher than inflation interest rate, 1% of all donations kept there until Kestas turns 80, and then Bam, he'll be set for life!
Draugnar (0 DX)
18 Oct 11 UTC
"until Kestas turns 80, and then Bam, he'll be set for life! "

LOL! To bad life will probably only be another couple of decades even some 60 years from now.
Diplomat33 (243 D(B))
18 Oct 11 UTC
no, i was talking about the founder being still alive. and i was saying for kestas, but when heturns 50 or something, that is closer
Draugnar (0 DX)
18 Oct 11 UTC
How about 25 then. I believe Kestas is still under 25.
fortknox (2059 D)

"...until Kestas turns 80, and then Bam, he'll be set for life!"
Set for life after 80. That wouldn't require much unless he's from a family that has a history of living into their 100s...
Thucydides (864 D(B))
18 Oct 11 UTC
clearly orathaic has yet to internalize the concept that all men must die.

"The sky is endlessly blue, and the earth will long remain, and bloom in Spring.
But you, Man, how long will you remain?
Not even a hundred years shall you enjoy the mouldering trinkets of this earth!"

-Li Po

Hypothetical move
Let's assume that St. Petersburg is surrounded. Norway and Finland are going to support Barents Sea in. Armies in Livonia and Moscow could support the hold in St. Pete's, but a German army may cut Livonian support. If St. Petersburg hits Norway to cut support, and Moscow supports Livonia into St. petetersburg, would everyone bounce?

I am also playing on another Dip site that shall remain nameless and have noticed from looking at game history that 2 of the players in my game almost always play together and seem to always be allies. What should I do?

Are discussions of banned players allowed on the forum?
Obviously cheating accusations aren't, but I seem to recall hearing that we're allowed to discuss players banned for cheating openly, and I'm curious as to the story behind some of the recently-banned players... seems like some familiar names are out.
