This Is Not Trolling!
God really spoke to me at church today and I've decided not to post anything on the forums anymore unless I legitimately believe it. For when I troll, it causes the rest of you to sin and I do not want to be responsible for that. Thank you and have a nice day.

The Free Market Working Perfectly
The government doesn't seem to have a desire to interfere in the book selling industry, yet.
So in the small portion of the massive American economy the free market is working by destroying an inefficient business model, Borders Books.

There are starving people in Ethiopia therefore the government has a right to take whatever it wants from whomever it wants in their name.

Am I dreaming?
The Redskins, Lions, and Bills are 2-0. The Bengals could potentially lead the AFC North after this week, and both the Chiefs and Colts are 0-2. Is this the same league as last year?

Ethics question
So I was sucking some dude's dick in the rectory basement the other day, and I'm conflicted. The bible teaches that homosexuality is a sin, but I can only find true happiness with a hot rod plunged balls deep into my willing man-hole. How can something that feels so good be wrong?

I want to change, but I can no longer resist my urges for wanton buttsecks with random men. Can somebody please help me?

Would This Be Allowed?
If a game was created where a basic algorithm selected a number and which ever country guessed the farthest off, became someone that absolutely everyone would have to ally against? It would be quite interesting...

The trolling trolls initiative
Some people in this forum have now decided that the best way to combat trolls it to troll them.

As someone who hasn't trolled in 3 days and has tried to participate in political debates, this initiative has gotten very annoying. So I request that we stop it.

Most Revolutionary Person in Music
Basically lets start a debate. Who do you guys think was the the most revolutionary musician of the 20th century. To start I'm going to throw out Syd Barret.

I personally think Jimi Hendrix, for completely changing the way a guitarist used his instrument
hellalt (70 D)

Roger Waters for the most exceptional philosophical lyrics in the history of music.
Thucydides (864 D(B))

Probably like...... I dunno let me think about it.

Why 20th century and not all time? I think Leonin is probably the biggest - he kind if pioneered polyphony?
spyman (424 D(G))
13 Sep 11 UTC
If we are talking lyrics then Bob Dylan. Hendrix is a good call.
Dejan0707 (1608 D)
13 Sep 11 UTC
I would say Mick Jagger....because he will likely be only rocker who would outlive English queen. Other than that I value Jim Morrison highly.
SacredDigits (102 D)

Uh oh, we're already at Syd Barrett vs. Roger Waters.

I'm going to go with Elvis. Granted, he basically just put a white face on existing black music, but he created the idea of the "rock star."
ulytau (541 D)
13 Sep 11 UTC
Since we talk the most revolutionary, I go with Arnold Schoenberg.
spyman (424 D(G))
13 Sep 11 UTC
Elvis was an exceptional but wasted talent alas. Love his early work. The 68 special was great tool
spyman (424 D(G))

This debate depend on the type of music... Popular, Jazz, Classical .... Very different realms.

well, if we're talking about pioneering surely chuck berry shouldn't be left behind
Lin Biao Jr. (359 D)
13 Sep 11 UTC
maybe not as influential as many of the aforementioned but for sure revolutionary
Cachimbo (1181 D)
13 Sep 11 UTC
I wonder if we'd be talking about Elvis like that had not a small plane fall down on Feb 3rd 1959...
Lin Biao Jr. (359 D)

hey....how about guido d'arezzo? He thought up modern notation, solfège and virtually made possible to everyone (interested) learn, compose and communicate his/her musical ideas easily.
obiwanobiwan (248 D)

I think the most revolutionary lyricists were Lennon/McCartney, just the freshest and best songwriting duo of that time...

As for most revolutionary overall...it'd have to be someone who transitioned between jazz and rock...
ulytau (541 D)
13 Sep 11 UTC
Lin, we're talking 20th century.
SacredDigits (102 D)
13 Sep 11 UTC
Well, Cachimbo, there's no doubt Buddy Holly belongs in the conversation as well, and I'd say Little Richard too.
Riphen (198 D)
13 Sep 11 UTC
Buddy Holly.. :( Listen to a lot of his songs on my ipod...he was such a talent...could of made so many more songs.. Wish I could of been born back then.
Riphen (198 D)
13 Sep 11 UTC
Oh not saying I think he was most Revolutionary Person in Music(20th Century)..but he is up there.

If anything I would have to go with Freddie Mercury. But that is me..and I am young..maybe Im blind haha
hmmm, no jazz lovers? Charlie Parker? Louis Armstrong?
Cachimbo (1181 D)
13 Sep 11 UTC
@Riphen: Hahaha!

It's not just that Buddy Holly was a great talent, it's also that 2 other big names disappeared from the map, leaving it quite open for the guy who was playing similar music to walk in and take the space.
Don't take me to be saying Elvis didn't belong there, though. But if someone puts Elvis in this list of revolutionaries, I think it would be more appropriate to name the whole band that was travelling with him in the late 50s: Cash, Holly, Valens, Jerry Lee, etc.
Cachimbo (1181 D)

@Goldy:

Miles?
Cachimbo (1181 D)

Coltrane?
Yeah, Miles was a game-changer too. I'm more of a Louis Armstrong fan though.

Blind Lemon Jefferson.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
13 Sep 11 UTC
i second mapleleaf actually. popular american music was the music of the 20th century, and blues spawaned all forms of popular music. Blind Lemon Jefferson was one of the first in blues; this makes him the most revolutionary.

maybe dj kool herc takes number two, and im sure louis armstrong and chuck berry deserve mentions
Cachimbo (1181 D)
13 Sep 11 UTC
Gershwin comes to mind as well...
Cachimbo (1181 D)
13 Sep 11 UTC
and Kurt Weil
Dan-i-Am 88 (348 D)

If we're talking about music as a whole I feel like Les Paul has to be on the list and high on it
iMurk789 (100 D)
13 Sep 11 UTC
I'm not well versed in music enough to confidently declare a #1 most revolutionary musician, but Kurt Cobain was also definitely a game changer.

First game on webdiplomacy - do you remember it?
I remember mine. It was a live non-anonymous game, I was Turkey and smetha was Russia. I asked him if he has a MSN messenger or Google talk, so we can discuss our alliance, and he just stabbed me - with Italy and Austria. I was the first out. What was your first game experience on webdip?

How do I pause?
Sorry for the seemingly dumb question, I've pressed the pause button, as have a few of the other players in our game, but the time seems to keep counting down. Does everyone in the game have to click pause? Or does pause just prevent the turn from processing?

It's our first time playing on the site, I searched the FAQ, and couldn't figure out exactly how pausing works. Thanks in advance for the answer!

Cool-headed and fair debate is what made it great, but the recent influx of trolls and flamers and just generally ill-willed people have sickened the forum, and this MUST be fixed.

Post your name below of you're onboard; NO ONE respond to trolls who post here...give them the respect and attantion they deserve--namely, none.
