E-mail updates
Hi all. I'm sure that there is a way to do this and I feel a little silly making a thread to ask, since this is probably a stupid question, but I can't seem to find any information on it. Is there a way to receive email notifications when I've been messaged in-game or when a phase is close to ending? Thanks in advance for any help!

Potential bug
Not really sure what this is but I just finished a game (4-way draw) where one player was in CD. It seems they must have come back right as the game drew because they show up as neither resigned nor draw, but rather as if they are still playing. Its weird.

How do I contact a mod?
I'm in a game where a certain player is stalling the game because we paused it (for another guy who would be away) and when the person got back, we tried to unpause and someone won't unpause it. It's been about a week since we all voted except him.

Persia won't unpause. Does this seem like an appropriate situation to bring in a mod, or should I wait?

Can you change the color of the pieces to identify who has what where more easily? Starting out is easy enough but I can see myself getting screwed up down the line.

Who should be the dictator of the United State of America?
Now that it has been proven in various threads that democracy does not work, and that a dictatorship is the best option, who should it become the supreme commander of the free world? Nominations now open.

Thank you for your continued patience as the games finally start. I am aware that some games have 10 phases. I was forced to increase the phase length because people were unable to join in a timely fashion. Once the games have started, they will be reset to 25 hours. Please do not cancel the games. You'll all just get a little extra diplomacy time the first round.

Android webDiplomacy app
Any chance of it ever happening?

A chance yes.
Personally I haven't looked into writing Android apps, but looks like it'd be really easy to write one that was simply a wrapper for this.
As far as writing a native client, that depends if anyone can be bothered - you interested? :)
snappy173 (533 D)

the site renders fine on my droid's web browser.

@figlesquidge: I'm no programmer, sorry, but you have my wholehearted support :D

@snappy173: The site renders well and readably when landscaped, but I like typing on the portrait display keyboard, and these days I'm rarely at a real computer for very long, it seems.
mdrltc (1818 D(G))

I have absolutely no understanding of programming, etc; however, I do have an Android phone and the current site works well on the phone. Why would you have to write an app?
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
10 Jan 11 UTC
What would be the point?

It works fine in the Android browser (except scrolling through messages). It just would be another thing to maintain...
Alderian (2425 D(S))

And one more thing to maintain means one more point of failure.
Draugnar (0 DX)

@snappy - have you tried scrolling the message box? I think you'll find that as one of the flaws in the default Droid browser.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

@Draug

Have you found a solution to this? That's my only complaint with webdip on Android.
Draugnar (0 DX)
10 Jan 11 UTC
I keep meaning to try Opera Mini for the Droid. But I haven't found anything yet.
Draugnar (0 DX)
10 Jan 11 UTC
There is a tag could be added to WebDip's renderer that makes regions scrollable under Android, however.

Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
10 Jan 11 UTC
Yeah its the same on an ipod/iphone. Just use the message logs, although it can be annoying
Draugnar (0 DX)
10 Jan 11 UTC
Message logs also don't have a link in the first year so you have to hand key the URL.
Draugnar (0 DX)

And Iphone/IPod has a two finger scroll that Droid doesn't.

iPhone version has much higher priority as Android is used by only a few people
Draugnar (0 DX)
10 Jan 11 UTC
Bzzzzt. Most recent statistics show the Android OS is beating the Iphone by nearly 5% of market share.
Draugnar (0 DX)
10 Jan 11 UTC
Oh, and Blackberry has the highest market share.
alamothe (3367 D(B))
10 Jan 11 UTC
IPhone has 50%+ of the market share so that can't be true, since it would add up to more than 100%
Dan-i-Am 88 (348 D)
10 Jan 11 UTC
Oh the joy of statistics taken out of context.
Draugnar (0 DX)
10 Jan 11 UTC
IPhone does NOT have 50%. Where do you get that figure from?
Draugnar (0 DX)
10 Jan 11 UTC
They may have 50% of AT&Ts share, but AT&T isn't 50% of the market and they are the only ones who have the iPhone.
alamothe (3367 D(B))

And Spyman brings it all into context, well done. Although given Android's rise, the argument could be made that Android my be atop the list in about a year. I believe Samsung's Galaxy Tab (Their answer to the iPad) runs the Android OS as well, right?
Alderian (2425 D(S))
10 Jan 11 UTC
From those numbers it appears iPhone does have the lead, but is quickly being taken over by Android. I wonder how much that'll change once the iPhone is available for networks other than AT&T. I know I heard Verizon was going to have it sometime in the future but don't know about others.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
10 Jan 11 UTC
In truth we want the data about the site, which is available to kestas. However, mobile phone support isn't a high priority so its more a matter of other developers who want to do something specific (e.g. variants)
Draugnar (0 DX)
10 Jan 11 UTC
I can't find the one I saw the other day, but this is from back in November.

http://www.lunarsoft.net/news/1-frontpage/696-android-gains-against-flat-us-iphone-market-share

It shows Android at 26% and IPhone at 25% of the cell market.
Draugnar (0 DX)
10 Jan 11 UTC
Now, I want alamothe to back up his 50% market share claim. How about it, alaMouth?
spyman (424 D(G))

iPhone is one phone. Android is an operating system that used by multiple phone manufacturers.
Draugnar (0 DX)

Point? Is it Google's fault that Apple gave in to AT&Ts demand for exclusivity? Is it Google's fault that Apple has always been a greedy, closed environment, refusing to release their OS to other platforms not controlled by them? The facts are that iPhone OS and Android are roughly even and Apple's phone OS will soon be overtaken by Android if it hasn't already. And as much as I love my Blackberry, the RIM OS will be overtaken eventually as well. It only holds its spot because it was first and it does business stuff like nobody's business.
