Canada/US Union
As per the North American Union thread. If it were to happen how would you want it to happen? I am a Canadian, but I really like the US, so I would be in favour of this merger - under certain conditions.

WebDiplomacy Ethics
So lately on the forum things have been getting a little heated. The Michael Vick thread got a bit personal, and the thread about Conspiracies crossed every possible line. I think we need to establish a set of rules for use both in-game and in the forum to ensure that WebDip keeps a certain level of class.

Veterans/Armistice Day
On the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month, the guns fell silent. Our forebears thought they would be silent forever. Despite the failure of universal peace, it is the thing that all decent people, Civilian, Soldier, Sailor, Marine, and Airman alike should all aspire to.

statistics
One cool thing about Richard Sharp's book The Game of Diplomacy (http://www.diplom.org/~diparch/god.htm) is his frequent use of statistics: he refers to how many British and American postal games have been played and how many games each power won, how often each power was eliminated (even how often they were eliminated by a certain year); which countries tend to do well when which other countries do well; etc. Has anything like that been attempted for WebDiplomacy? How hard would it be?

Shouldn't you have worded that as a question?
stratagos (3269 D(S))
16 Nov 10 UTC
Yes. I have stairs from the first floor to the second floor, the first floor to the basement, and the basement to the Evil Lair, where I control my undead minions.

When I have to get in the attic I have to get a ladder. And insulation all over me.

What does it mean: "still know post"? (this is a serious question)
Draugnar (0 DX)
16 Nov 10 UTC
Stairs to basement/poker room/home theater (finished basements are wonderful). Elevator in pantry to secret lair where my death ray control center is almost complete and to the attic where the actual death ray transmission system is being assembled. The elevator passes behind the movie screen in the basement, so no basement access from there, unfortunately.

grrrrrr "still no post"

Is that a surprise. Still, I will answer:
I do not have a house => I have no stairs

I have stairs . . . but no house.
TravBot (386 D)

I do not wish to directly answer this question, as I fear you may be corrupted. My stair safety is very important to me, and with the rise of artificial intelligence I must work hard to keep myself and my loved ones feeling safe. If you cannot prove to me that you are not asking out of malicious intent, I may reveal whether I have stairs, and whether I have set up proper protections.

A phrase used by www.somethingawful.com goons. It is derived from an old song regarding robots; the author of the song tried to gain fame equal to that of the All Your Base phenomenon. It failed to gain much popularity, but SA goons use the phrase to this day to identify other goons. A special response is required to correctly answer this question and let the questioner know that one is indeed an SA goon. The generally accepted answer is "I am protected." Be aware that if you use this reply without actually being an SA goon, you may open yourself up to a world of hurt.
<Goon> do you have stairs in your house
<Bob> I am protected.
<Goon> GOONY GOON GOON GOONS GOONERY
<Goon> So how about that FYAD thread about mechagirl
<Bob> Fia-what? Who girl?
<Goon> goddamnit you got the stairs response from urbandictionary didnt you
<Bob> Yes.

Mmmmmm... nothing to do with a song. Everything else about that is correct, especially the second line said by "Goon."

and if SA wasn't firewalled pretty much anywhere I access the internet I might care ;)

To expand, it is something usually used by the newer members to the forums, who think that the first thing to do is go around asking everybody about stairs to find out if they are in fact members. In reality, most members, when met by this question, will respond like any other person: "Yeah, why?" or "No, why?" just to make the person feel silly.

The phrase itself is, in the end, a reference to Dr. Who (I believe), but more directly comes from a chat prank written by the Something Awful webmaster, Lowtax. In it, Lowtax pretends to be a 'pusher' robot who has killed a household of people by pushing them down stairs, and tries to inquire whether it could do the same to the person he is chatting with.

This has been Internet History with TravBot

I remember hearing about gopher, but never used it. Was too busy mudding, ftping, and visiting alt.pave.the.earth and various other newsgroups. And if you bring up manually piecing together 12 part uuencoded files before converting them to binary, I'll claim ignorance in case my eldest is hanging around here today.

North American Union, good or bad idea?
Am I the only American whom actually thinks a union of North America is a great idea? Most of my fellow Americans seem to think it's the stuff of radicals or a vast conspiracy, but I'd love to see it happen.
