Canada/US Union
As per the North American Union thread. If it were to happen how would you want it to happen? I am a Canadian, but I really like the US, so I would be in favour of this merger - under certain conditions.

WebDiplomacy Ethics
So lately on the forum things have been getting a little heated. The Michael Vick thread got a bit personal, and the thread about Conspiracies crossed every possible line. I think we need to establish a set of rules for use both in-game and in the forum to ensure that WebDip keeps a certain level of class.

Veterans/Armistice Day
On the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month, the guns fell silent. Our forebears thought they would be silent forever. Despite the failure of universal peace, it is the thing that all decent people, Civilian, Soldier, Sailor, Marine, and Airman alike should all aspire to.

statistics
One cool thing about Richard Sharp's book The Game of Diplomacy (http://www.diplom.org/~diparch/god.htm) is his frequent use of statistics: he refers to how many British and American postal games have been played and how many games each power won, how often each power was eliminated (even how often they were eliminated by a certain year); which countries tend to do well when which other countries do well; etc. Has anything like that been attempted for WebDiplomacy? How hard would it be?

We all respond to certain players posts in the forum and ignore others.
Or join games created by certain players.Either based on past games with them or the type of games they start.
I find that there are small little cliques within the diplomacy ranks here.
If you wish post the names of players you associate with the reason why.
Draugnar (0 DX)
17 Nov 10 UTC
Really? I've never found it to be cliquish per se. Sure, there are assholes like me, and good guys like Figle and abge and yourself (and many others), but overall everyone in the forum seems willing to help for the most part and chat with about anyone.
Mafialligator (239 D)
17 Nov 10 UTC
I'll post anywhere someone I disagree with happens to post. I do tend to find I disagree with the same people a lot, but this should not be surprising.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

I think there is a big sub culture of people who mainly play livegames. There are a lot of great player I'm not familiar with because I don't play live games often
stratagos (3269 D(S))
17 Nov 10 UTC
a) what does this have to do with gravity

b) "Either based on past games with them or the type of games they start."

Well, duh, if I don't like a particular type of game, then I'm unlikely to play with someone who plays that type of game. That's not exactly rocket science.

c) "I find that there are small little cliques within the diplomacy ranks here."

Evidence?

d) "If you wish post the names of players you associate with the reason why. "

I don't 'associate' with anyone. There are some people I choose *not* to 'associate' with, because I think they're fucking morons, but that's a small fraction of the membership of the board - and even if I think someone's a tard in the forum, I can (usually) put that aside and play a game with them.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

Draugnar (0 DX)

..and sometimes even chat with them on the rare occasion on the forum, eh Strat? (I'm sure I fall into the tard category on occassion - like recently).
stratagos (3269 D(S))
17 Nov 10 UTC
@Draug - everyone has their tard moments. Granted, yours was a little more tardly than others, but you're hardly TMW.
Draugnar (0 DX)
17 Nov 10 UTC
LOL! Thanks, strat. Now people around me are wondering what I'm chuckling about...
Since I play a lot of gunboat games, with a lot of them being live games, I tend to find myself in games with people like Barn3tt, Czech, Frank, Ava, Podium, Gobba, Trip, curtis, justinhoo, etc. These same people are in some of the non-live gunboats I have been playing recently too. To be honest, I find the quality of game to be way up when a couple of these people are in the game.

Maybe clique is not what I'm after but have found that certain players respond to others in forum differently if they have either agreed or disagreed in past forums and generally have respect or disdain for that player.
For me I have certain players I read posts and respond to and others that I look at and go what bull is he/she spewing now or who really cares.
Also have what I call my gunboat club and know that the game will be enjoyable if there in it and ignore other games post by players who.A- Have played before and they have no clue what gun boat is about or B-never played but others have ripped them in forum for there play in gunboats.

@stratagos.Nothing but it made you look.Never played a game with you but from the way you respond or post in forum we have similar views.
So we can say that instead of gravity it should be gravitate.

@Abge - I find gravity my 2nd, because I refuse to accept the difference between the rest.

@strat - the cake is not a lie. It is an awesomely cheap way of eating. I currently have 1/2 a birthday cake left beside me (I've eaten the rest) having bought it discounted yesterday.

haha day old cake :) that reminds me of my bakery days, course i'm sure it either has buttercream frosting, thats the only thing people use nowadays :(

Two layers of painfully perfect suspiciously yellow sponge, stuck together with thin layer of overly sugery buttercream&jam, covered in half a cm thick fondant icing.
It did have a cartoony giraffe icing centrepiece, but that's been eaten :D

North American Union, good or bad idea?
Am I the only American whom actually thinks a union of North America is a great idea? Most of my fellow Americans seem to think it's the stuff of radicals or a vast conspiracy, but I'd love to see it happen.
