Why so much politics?
One thing I've noticed here is that there are so many threads based on politics, and I've been wondering what gets everybody so worked up about politics? I personally have very strong views that I would like to voice, but I don't know exactly how to jump in and how it will effect the way people view me on the site. I love a good debate, so I'd love to jump in. Any suggestions?

International Actors
At least in the major film industries, you rarely see an actor in America who hails from a different country. Sure, there's the occasional British or Australian who comes along, and I'm sure we visit them from time to time, but in a 'Globalizing World,' are cultural boundaries still too powerful to withhold a type of entertainment that is enjoyed so universally? Any thoughts?

What website do you use to make your life cheaper and easier?
So, I've discovered airbnb.com when I want sleep somewhere for a very modest prize, I've discovered blablacar.nl when I want to travel there (hitchhiker's site), marktplaats.nl for second hand items and so on and so on. What website do you use to make your life cheaper and easier?

"Mini-tournament" of 7 games for 7 players
Details inside

Sevyas (973 D)
22 Jan 14 UTC
I am loking for 6 more players for a "mini-tournament" of 7 games.

A group of 7 players will play 7 games, and the countries will be assigned by the mods in a way that each player has to play as each country once.
The games will all be paused after the countries are reassigned by the mods.
I will PM all the participants which game to unpause first, and as soon as this first game reaches 1907, we unpause the next game, and so on ... (in order to avoid playing 7 games simultaneously)

All games will be 72hrs/phase, full press, anonymous games - you will know the list of participants, but you will not know who is playing what country.
All games will have a buy in of 20 D and will be wta - so you will need 140 D to be able to participate.

Winner of the mini tournament will be the one who gets the most tournament points (TP)
A Solo victory counts 3TP - 2way or 3way draw counts for 1TP per player involved - survived or 4way 5way 6way 7way draws gets you 0TP - defeated counts for -0,5TP

As this mini tournament will play over a long time, all participants will have to agree to grant pauses if requested (with reason and duration of the pause) - noone can guarantee there are no unforseen events over such a long period of time. However, if you will be absent for more than 10 days in a row, please find a sitter or replacement.

I am not going to play, but I can tell you that with 3 day phases there is no way to keep everyone involved for what will likely be a year.
Sevyas (973 D)

Depends who wants to join. Most players here play this game since several years and are likely to still be on this site in a year

I agree with Mapu. Anything over 48 hours is going to make each game year take 2 weeks, so your looking at over 2 years to complete the 7 games one at a time.

I would suggest shortening the phases by at least half and playing at least 2 games at a time. That gives you a 6-7 month commitment from people.

Other than that it sounds like a really fun game
2ndWhiteLine (2611 D(B))
23 Jan 14 UTC
I guess I should have actually read this more carefully before approving the tournament. Mapu is absolutely right - this will take forever, plus you need to incorporate the inevitable pauses for players, such as spring break trips for students, summer trips, holidays, etc. At 3 days per phase, if each phase is extended fully, that's 12 days per year and 11 weeks before each game reaches 1907. For seven games, that's 77 weeks plus the duration of the final game, so you're looking at a maximum of probably a year and a half. Even if you're generous at one week per year, that's a month and a half before each new game starts, so its still over a year. For an organized tournament that isn't the Leagues or Masters, its unlikely that you'll finish.

I would like to do this, but I would not play unless it was 48 hrs or less per phase... But the idea interests me.

Skittles (1014 D)

This would be perfectt for 48hrr phases, and count me in if you change it.
Why can't all seven games be played simultaneously? 48 hours/phase means the games should take max 8 days per game year, so maybe 120 days for the longest of the seven games to finish. Sure, it's a four month commitment but managing seven games at once should actually be quite busy for 48/hours a phase.
Zachattack413 (1231 D)
23 Jan 14 UTC
I would also be interested, but I think that the three day phase would be rather tedious.I feel that doing 48 hours would be fine, though. And maybe we could unpause the second game earlier. Two games at once is fairly easy to handle.

@Sevyas, before the mod team can sign off we need all the questions I sent you via email answered. With the current time frame of the tournament I cannot agree to commit the mod team to over a year and a half of assisting with a tournament. With the current conditions the best we can do is rearrange the positions for you. After that though they would be played like normal games with no moderator intervention outside what we would do for a normal game.

@jmo:
"before the mod team can sign off we need all the questions I sent you via email answered."
I answered the questions and sent the mail a minute ago.

"I cannot agree to commit the mod team to over a year and a half of assisting with a tournament. With the current conditions the best we can do is rearrange the positions for you. After that though they would be played like normal games with no moderator intervention outside what we would do for a normal game."
That's all the help we will need. Since I intend to play in all the games, I cant be TD, and I dont think we will need one since the only rules that need to be respected are the standard rules of the site + pausing the games if a participant asks for a pause or replacement is needed due to a CD.

Sevyas (973 D)
23 Jan 14 UTC
I did not do the math to calculate how long this tournament would take to complete when choosing the 3days phases - I just took those because I like those best.
In order to shorten the entire duration of the tournament, I propose to take 2day phases, and to start the next game when the previous games gets to 1905.
Zachattack413 (1231 D)
23 Jan 14 UTC
If we are doing 2 day phases, I am most certainly in if you'll have me!
Sevyas (973 D)
26 Jan 14 UTC
After making some changes to reduce the total duration of the tournament, I got permission to go on wih tournament-advertising. The changes are 48hr/phase & the next game will start when the previous game reaches 1905.

Player list until now (if they are still interested):
Mendax, Achilles27, Skittles, Zachattack413 and myself.
Kangaroo kid, I didn't put you on the list because you resigned 25% of all your games - sorry but the risk of you resigning during the tournament (what would ruin the games for the other participants as well) is just too big for me.

@Sevyas If it makes you feel any better I've got my horrific 25% resignation down to 24%?
Kangaroo kid (0 DX)
27 Jan 14 UTC
Also you said "However, if you will be absent for more than 10 days in a row, please find a sitter or replacement. " The only reason I resigned in games was because I was short of time. I'm pretty sure 72 hours is enough time for me to get on and make my moves. If I know I don't have the time later in the process of the tournament, I can find someone to replace me.
Skittles (1014 D)
27 Jan 14 UTC
I'm afraid I'm going to have to drop out of this. With some new things I have going on, I'm going to be short on time. I'd like to play something like this in the future, though.

@ Kangaroo kid: I do intend to start other tournaments like this one. If you get your resign rate below 10% by then, I am willing to let you join. Like I said before, if someone CDs, this ruins the game for all the others. In this tournament it would simultaeously ruin all running games of the tournament. And I want to keep the risk of this happening as low as possible.

@ Skittles: Hope to have you on board next time.
