FAQ
How do u resign a game if u want to leave?
I believe emailing the mods is the way to go. Assuming you can find a replacement. Aside from them forcing it you would have to CD the hard way. And that is highly discouraged.
Valis2501 (2850 D(G))
19 Jul 15 UTC
There is no way to do this. If you miss two turns in a row you'll resign the game but that requires you not check the game at all and the NMRs and CDs are counted against your Reliability Rating.

The other option, as Vashta points out, is to find someone willing to replace you and ask the mods to swap you out.

You stay in the game and honor the commitment you made when you signed up for it.

Can we get a banner on the page , that says "no quitting"

This is the 10,000th time we've had this discussion
I think this problem might steam from the "I know <insert country here> is going to win" and "everyone else knows <insert same country here> is going to win" so "how can we end this now". Much like a resign in a game of chess where usually among top players the game is not played to a checkmate but someone resigns a few turns prior.

Although short of adding a vote button which is "solo for <insert country x>" which would likely never get used "enough" to justify the time spent to implement it I'm not sure what can be done.

In short I guess just ready up and fulfill your commitment.
Brankl (231 D)

Very rarely are solos inevitable. Often the winning country needs to at least make a correct guess on a 50/50 before securing 18 centers.

You folk can be quite unthinkingly inhumane. Circumstances occur which are of much higher priority than a game; being give notice that you have terminal cancer is just one example. In those circumstances, someone who notifies a moderator that they can't play on so that a replacement can be found should find us sympathetic, not critical. But I agree that those who want to resign from a specific game simply because they're losing do deserve our opprobrium. It takes very little time to log in and order a couple of units. However, the rush to judgement without knowing all the facts (or in some cases nearly all of them) is at best stupid.

@Caballo Blanco: at vdip there is a resign button that awards the solo to one player if everyone else votes resign. So, I think your idea would be easy to apply. I still do think that most people won't use it because there will likely be at least one player out there that will not want a resign on his record I guess.
Chumbles (791 D(S))

@JECE How true!
I guess the best reason for a resign implemented the way guak mentioned would be in a situation where someone is manipulating the system to get more than 18 centers for the purpose of scoring or tie breakers in some tournament. In this case the others could at least "resign" and keep him at 18 centers. This is the only reason I can fathom needing a "resign" feature on this site.
Valis2501 (2850 D(G))

"concede" on vdip is different than "resign"

Concede vote is often useful in 1vs1 games where it's basically like a chess resign.

@Caballo Blanco: You'd keep him below 18 centers. One could wonder whether that is fair.
I don't say below... I said AT 18 which is a win but not let them get say 22 centers!!!
JECE (1322 D)

Caballo Blanco: There is never an incentive to get 22 centers.

steephie22 (182 D(S))

You can't resign (concede, but anyway) when someone is at 18 centers because the game would already be over. It can only be done when someone is below 18 SCs, thus not allowing him to get 18 SCs.

Simple, really.
JECE (1322 D)

Jeff Kuta: If you end the game with 22 SC's in PPSC, you will still get half the pot. This was fixed years ago.

CDs and the collapse of empires
Just wanted to observe how frustrating it is when a player becomes less committed to the game when they look to be in trouble. What can possibly be done to stop this ruining end games for everyone else?

(Also, someone (ghug?) mentioned not long ago a game where Germany recovered from 2 centres to solo. I can't find it again, can someone point me in the right direction?)

The Deathcount of Wall Street
I was thinking of doing some research on how many people died by Wall Street practices (through sucking companies out causing unemployment, profiting from and at the cost of pension funds ruining people's pensions, etc, etc.).

Does anyone have an idea of where to start and how to go about this?

After several games of anon gunboat coming and going with not enough players, I finally had one start today. It was my first time, I've never played anon gunboat before. Well, I was Russia and in the first turn England, Germany and italy NMRd. Then England and Germany went CD and Italy finally started making moves.

Why so many gunboat games ?
I don't really have a problem with gunboat but I thought this game was designed for people to talk between themselves and scheme and form alliances in advance and fool your allies telling them you will, for example, support them somewhere but end up attacking them instead. For a few weeks I've seen only gunboat (live games)
