March madness 2013!!!
In this 2013 basketball season it has been filled with upsets and well the battle of the better teams. I personally think the final four will be Michigan state Spartans, Indiana Hoosiers, Florida gators, and Michigan wolverines. Now knowing selection Sunday hasn't happened I thought I would have a little college basketball talk with people over America or out side who follow the college basketball association. What do people think will happen in the tournament. Thoughts?

e e cummings variant game
In the thread: threadID=982959 - hecks made an excellent proposal:

"An e e cummings variant game. Public press only, no capitalization, no punctuation, all comments must be made in deliberately vague e e cummings style poems."

Unpause vote does nothing
In this game:
http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=111946

Out unpause vote does absolutely nothing. It won't process that we've clicked unpause, so the game simply will not continue. Any ideas?

What doea your name mean?
Some people have obvious references to historical or fictional characters, others are some form of their name (like mine, my name really is Phil) but for those with more cryptic names, I'm curious where they came from.

Some that I know from previous posts - draugnar is Tolkien elvish for some kind of wolf, Nigee is a name one of his friends used to call him, etc. But what about Bosox, mapu, sbyvyl, redhouse, abgemacht, etc. ?

+1 to phil for a wonderful thread -- makes even the snarky comments bearable... Well, almost. Started using this handle since freshman regstration when I filled out forms in caps and somhow JOSH registered on my I.D. Card as Josu... And who doesn't want to be smooth and nice in college... It stuck, and I never bothered to fix the card... That was nearly twenty years ago (and I'm still nice <GRIN>).

Not much help to google that randomness....

@phil - scrolling on the phone, half asleep, in the dark... Did I miss your handle explained in here somewhere?

Thanks josunice. I'm glad you like it. I always think its interesting why people come up with the names they do.

I was a big Pantera fan in the 90s when "Vulgar Display of Power" came out. The lead singer was Phil Anselmo. He had a tattoo that said "philcore" on it, and as so few famous people shared my name (strange, considering Phillip was one of "the 12" no shortage of Matthews, Lukes, and Pauls over the last 2000 years), a lot of my friends called me that. I don't play too many games, but when I would sign up for anything that I needed a user name - especially with RL friends, that's what I would use. When I played here for the first time, it was with a bunch of friends from work, so I naturally I stuck with philcore. I didn't realize that 5 years later I'd be the only one us still playing.

Phil Collins didn't do it for you, eh? You know you got Dr. Phil now... though I'm thinking that's not a real plus...

Also Phil Donahue, and Phillip Morris. Phil Hartman. Phil Adelphia.

Yeah, not a lot of real redeeming ones. I did like the baseball pitcher Phil Niekro, though.

My last name is Fleming, which lends itself nicely to nicknames like "Flemwad" or "Green Flem" or "Flemster". But six or seven years ago the girls I coached in track started calling me FlemGem, and I thought that was a much nicer take on my name, so I kept it.

I never thought I'd get a PhD (and certainly not an MD), so the Dr Phil thing wasn't going to happen, but after I got my Masters, I did think that "Master Phil" had a nice ring to it. Why do Doctorates get to use their educational title and we Masters, don't?

"During this era, I ended up with a creepy internet stalker who would do things like send me naked pictures of herself. To my work address. Oh, and she was underage."

Good job you mentioned this here. If you are ever prosecuted for being in possesion of underage pictures you can show them this post to verify your story. Thinking ahead, I like that.

The Most Conservative Contest
The question is: Who on the WebDip forums is the most Conservative? It shouldn't be too hard to figure out, as there are only a handful of Conservatives on this site (Krellin, Draug, ConservativeMan and myself come to mind). So in order to figure it out, we will post our positions on the issues here, and let the others decide.

Strange response, albeit effective I guess. Can someone please tell President Obama that encouraging targeted killings is only going to come back to bite the US someday?
