Upon answering the original question (I kinda just skimmed past once I saw debates were going on)

I think the Pope should come from a European country, why you may ask? Well while it is true there are many highly religious Catholic countries such as Mexico, Phillipines etc. But that's precisely why I think the new Pope shouldn't come from those countries. Christianity is already strong in those countries as it is and the simpl fact is that In a lot of the western world faith is weakening and more and more people are becoming athiests. I myself went to a Catholic school my entire life from the ages of 4-18, and the majority of my friends left the school either athiests or non practicing Catholics (myself being one of them), very very few people I knew from school actually went to church regulary.

That is why I believe the next pope should be European, to try to reenergise the faltering faith in Europe.

I myself now consider myself an athiest, I simply don't believe there is a God, but I envy those people who can receive joy from religion. If I could feel what those believers could feel I would gladly accept religion in my life, as everybody could use some extra happyness. And I think continuing to have a European pope is a tradition the church must try to maintain if wants to have any hope to retain a strong religious community within Europe.

Just my opinion on the matter.

Oh and in terms of specific people, I have no idea. I don't really know of many cardinals.
