The Great Debate: Mujus, Crazy Anglican, Nigee, semck, SC vs. My Fellow Atheists?
It seems as if we have a new wave of vocal and talented Christian thinkers, who certainly seem as willing as I to type on the matter, albeit from the other end--so, care to debate, say, 2-4 Christians vs. the same # of Atheists, on a thread w/ a neutral moderator, we each give an opening statement in succession (say, 500-1000 words or less), one rebuttal per person, and then open it up for questions, side with the most +1s for their comments "wins?"

I have continued my research and have better arguments to make than what I did so many months ago. If only we could redo these, since they're not being judged anyway.

The problem with that, dub, is that I am pretty sure I am dumber than ten years ago, when we first debated. Age and wear have taken their toll.
semck83 (229 D(B))
21 Feb 13 UTC
I think that's the feeling of almost everybody who participates in a debate, dub. Sadly, you just have to go in and do the best you can at the time, which is all you commit to when you agree to do it.
Bohonk (1918 D)
21 Feb 13 UTC
I think you should expand the debate to include more than just the two major parties (Christians and Atheists). That age old debate is so worn out and boring, Perhaps we could get some Buddhists, maybe some indigenous shamanic thinkers, potentially a Kardecian spiritist or two?
Mujus (1495 D(B))
22 Feb 13 UTC
This debate is set, done, and will be judged. I can't explain why it's been so hard to get around to it again except that I've been swamped with pretty much every conceivable situation, from being sick to a kid getting taken to the hospital in an ambulance (twice) to weddings and funerals and necessary prep for teaching to just crashing on the couch--a necessity, as is an occasional walk with the dog and trip to the grocery store. I've never been this stymied when I wanted to get something done. *sigh* But I'm confident things will turn around any day now.

I want to wait for Thucy or one of the judges, but if not, I would be fine with folks pairing up and making threads with their arguments, maybe in Google Docs, and letting the community read it.
semck83 (229 D(B))

To the remaining judges:

Over six months ago, eight of us participated in this debate. Over a period of a couple weeks, we put in large amounts of time to produce as good a debate as we could. Speaking for myself, I found the debate took an enormous time commitment, which affected both my work and my relaxation time, and added quite a lot of stress to scheduling my days while it lasted. I would imagine that other debates experienced the same thing. We did this because we wanted a quality debate, and to present our side as well as we could, and we did it for the webdip community to read and react.

Currently, our effort has never come to light, because you have not yet turned in your judge reports. I understand what a commitment this has probably turned out to be, and I understand if you just can't find the time. But please do not delay our debate any longer. I (speaking only for myself, admittedly) would request that you either commit to turning in at least two reports by the end of March or resign so that we can replace you with a judge who can act quickly.

Thank you.
Mujus (1495 D(B))
19 Mar 13 UTC
I'm a replacement judge in total awe of everything that's come my way since promising. I have never, ever been so overscheduled. BUT I have 11 days off starting on Friday, and this is on my project list, along with grading student papers, knocking down the foxtails, and making a drip to the dump and bringing in some topsoil--oh and finishing up my sabbatical project from last semester. It sounds impossible BUT I think this time it will all come together. At least they were good reading. :-)

Sexist Pig, Re-Heated Family Guy Leftovers, or Fresh New Take--McFarlane as Oscars Host?
http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/closeread/2013/02/seth-macfarlane-and-the-oscars-hostile-ugly-sexist-night.html So the reviews for the Aesthete Super Bowl known as the Oscars are in...and pretty much it's an even split, some loving the job Seth McFarlane did and others, like Ms. Davidson here, finding his turn as Oscar host incredibly offensive...and "misogynistic" seems to be the chief complaint against him--agree with that, disagree...your take?

Potential Multi Issue
I'm new to website after playing a few IRL games, and my housemate who also works at the same place as me is probably thinking about joining. However, I know there are issues relating to people using multiple accounts, and if that's done by IP address is will most likely look like both our accounts are the same person's.
What's the best way for us to avoid this, or who should I contact to discuss it further?
Thanks!

Are you the one who will rule the world?
For the easy payment of 15 D, you can enjoy the chance to rule the world with The World Wide Schlieffen Plan ( http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=111246 ) . If you can take 10 minutes out of you day for possible world domination, than this deal is for you. In fact this deal is just to good. I'm gonna have to put a time limit of 7 days for this. I would wait that long though. there's only 13 spaces left.

Looking for some advice. My wife says I should wash second-hand clothes before I wear them, in case there are bugs or something in them. But is that going far enough? What if there are demons in my "new" corduroys? Should I exorcise them first? Pat Robertson says better safe than sorry.

Michelle Obama presents Best Picture Award
Cult of personality much? Can the Obamas refrain from inserting themselves into every damn corner of American life? Who thought this was a good idea--among both the White House staff and the Oscars producers? Can we leave politics out of anything? Why were military personnel used as props in a banal entertainment industry awards program?

Seriously, how is this not creepy and inappropriate?
