How is it lopsided, Dharmaton? Egypt usually doesn't do as well as other powers and Persia does better, but how is that different than Turkey doing better than Austria? Good players can keep the map balanced and competitive.

If you really want to get into this you can rip the world variant apart much easier then the ancient med. But, the reason we keep them is the same reason the option to play gunboats is around. People have fun playing them. You don't have to play variants or gunboats, but people enjoy them, so we keep them.

Ancient Med is more balanced than the other two since you usually face only two possible opponents at the start and not more. Regular Diplomacy usually ends badly for Germany, Italy, and Austria unless you can negotiate and alliance. At least you can't start in the center and have everyone converging on your homeland.

I am a big fan of ancient med.

Alternatively, you could just not Play it. Why do you want to get rid of something just because you dont like ?

I rearely see any fair devolopements in that variant, and whatever the fuck do whatever the fuck you want I don't care, I despise that variant, and from now on NO More 'diplomacy' - ONLY GUNBOATS !!! Talking to one-sided myopic morons is a pain. no way. GB !!!

Honestly, the site needs more variants, not less. Plus, this particular one seems rather more balanced, than, say, the vanilla Europe one.

This is a ridiculous suggestion.
If you don't like it then don't play it but clearly other people do enjoy it.
If you wanna suggest we replace it then that could be a decent idea but just because you don't like it doesnt mean it should go.
I happen to like it because I can get the games done more quickly and its nice to refresh some games quickly I find.

I find World Diplomacy way more lopsided than Ancient Med. Egypt, for example, gets the short end of the stock in every game I've seen. But, again, I just don't play it. Let others do what they want.

Diploing is only good for manipulation. Brute tactics and force is better IMHO. But that's my preference, for I've tried the chat thing and it's usually bullshit, words become useless.

Hecks - There is no nation called Egypt in World map. Yoi have Near East, Libya and Ghana on the southern coast of the Med.

I like swimming in the Med.

Perfect imbalance is hard to do, I spend hours trying to create perfect imbalance where everyone has roughly equal chances to win but are not equal or symmetrical. Baron Powell and Extra Creditz talk at length about this. The thing about diplomacy is that perfect imbalance is very hard to judge as diplomacy is really not a typical multiplayer game to deal with where I can write in a few lines of code to change the power of a weapon for example. When Successions came out I was angry with myself as certain changes I thought would improve the game weren't made. However with the early games it seems to be very playable and has at least somewhat of perfect imbalance, I'll need more data to truely judge the results. By this critea I approve Anc Med it has pretty good imbalance and good counter play where nations usually has a good counter to any action taken on the board. World is just a mess, what data I have salvaged has shown a huge gap in success between nations. I wouldn't criticize that mcuh becaue balancing out a worldwide map is really, really hard.

I must be thinking of Lybia. Whoever starts out sandwiched between Near East, Ghana, and Kenya.

To show this statement as true (I.e. to be more persuasive), show that the regular map is boring and talking useless on the classic map. I'm interested if you are willing to take that time and effort.

I don't think we should remove it. I'm sure there are people who enjoy the variant, and if you don't like the variant you don't have to play it.
