Just realized
The rhetoric of this website is so bombastic and antagonistic because that's how people who play diplomacy with each other inevitably end up feeling about each other. Duhhhhhhhhhh.

Add in your standard issue krellin, and agitate with a wooden spoon occasionally. Voila! gameID=696969

Rule question Re: convoyed army cutting support
I should know better, but does a convoyed army cut support to the province it is attempting to reach? I want to support hold the fleet that is next to the province, so I don't want to use my fleet, but I've got an idle army that I wouldn't mind convoying if it will cut supported action by the unit in the province I am convoying to.

Socialized Medicine
People who defend communism often take Cuba as an example and in particular the Cuban health care system. I once saw this movie by Michael Moore which I found manipulative, and I don't want to use it as a direct source, but it did inspire me to think about this subject.

1. Everyone likes to attack Russia.
2. Austria always seems to attack Italy when I hear conventional wisdom is for them to team up.
3. In light of Austria attacking Italy, S01 A-Venice to Trieste works well for Italy despite conventional wisdom that says stay neutral, especially as Italy.

How NOT to Air Your Post-Election Grievances
You can--and should--criticize the President if you want, however much you want, that's how a free democracy is kept free, but...DON'T wish the President dead, or sling racial slurs! Coarse, cruel, unworthy, uncalled for, and STUPID!

‎"She used the n-word in referring to Obama and wrote that maybe he will be assassinated this term.
Helms then told a Sacramento TV station that she wouldn't mind a bit if someone assassinated Obama."

I mean, really...

Post-Kennedy, and especially post-9/11, who thinks it's smart to say things like that?

And I don't care how much you despise a politician...I despise Santorum and Palin and Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter on the broadcasting side of things, but I'd NEVER wish them dead...that's just uncalled for.

And on a final note:

You know, I thought it was maybe perhaps exaggerated the first term, but more and more, I'm beginning to agree that Obama's presidency hasn't just faced racism (really, that much is obvious, and to be expected, first non-white president in our history) but has faced a sustained level of disgusting, intolerable, and malicious hatred on both a racial as well as professional level...and those of us with functioning brains need to stand up against it, because there's a very, VERY nasty side of America that's showing through in statements like that, and it needs to stop.

And before anyone says "Oh, that's not fair, you criticized Bush!" again, criticism is fine.

I never threatened his life...
Never made racial threats...
Never hated him because of his family background.

Same with Romney, and to be fair to Romney, I think he's a FAR better person than creeps like this...I still don't like his politics one bit, but he doesn't come off as this level of slime.

There's a bad, bad section of America being exposed right now...and it needs to be rooted out, for the good of Democrats, for the good of Republicans (every time a nut like this takes things to extremes it reflects poorly on the more rational conservatives) and for the good of the nation.

Wow, she got fired for that? On what grounds? I mean I personally would find her despicable but I don't see how that's justification for losing one's job. She didn't say it to a costumer at work, after all.

I just want to point out that Obama can't be assassinated. As a black person, whenever he's hit with a bullet, his body has ways to shut that whole thing down.

Is that legal? I guess the video implied she was getting threats at work, so I guess it did influence the goings on there. Still, that seems pretty shitty to treat your employee that way. Well, stupidity has its consequences I guess :P

Yes, YJ. Most employment in the US is at-will, which means you can be fired any time for any reason (other than the obvious racial, sexual descrimination type things).

I like these: whitepeoplemourningromney.tumblr.com/

Especially comments about popularity and IQ, the 'end of america as we know it' - because voting for a president and the people being free to decide , well that is just the END of freedom; especially if the people make the wrong choice (in your, not so, humble opinion)

Imho, people should be free to vote FOR government spending, FOR taxation, FOR health care. And just because they do doesn't mean your country no longer exists.

I saw a break down of the vote, FOR obama, latinos ~75%, blacks ~95% whites ~45%; then poor >50%, rich ~40%.

I haven't seen a breakdown of women vs men, nor any breakdown based on IQ or educational achievement (academic) or any other possible measure of brain power/empathy...

Does anyone have decent figures?

'Yes, YJ. Most employment in the US is at-will, which means you can be fired
any time for any reason (other than the obvious racial, sexual descrimination

Most employment in europe is by contract (though temps are becomig more popular) so being fired must be backed up by a breach of contract.

Why does this reflect badly on Republicans, exactly? We know that there are some pro-Republican who are nutters. There are plenty of Democratic supporters who are nutters. Anyone who thinks this will ever change is more than a little out of touch with humanity.

The blatent smug triumphalism seen from Democrats recently is rather saddening, to be honest. The fact that there's so much of it on this very site even more so. You expect that sort of thing from Republicans, but you rather hope the Democrats with all of their "we're the reasonable, science loving enlightenment party" propaganda would be different.

Not a jot.
redhouse1938 (429 D)
10 Nov 12 UTC
To be fair, most of the smug triumphalism was directed at one person, who really never missed an opportunity to be smugly triumphalist about anything he thought merited the pose.
orathaic (1009 D(B))

To be fair, the in the US political parties are black and white, with us or against us, simple.

The system is destroying civil society. Chik-a-fil could be the first of a series of rep vs dem businesses. Soon the US will have democratic and republican towns, seperate but equal.

Maybe schools can come after that and the special buildings for political worship...

Like religion dividing people, most are unwilling to see that the opposing views hold any truth.

It is less about how the country is run and more about whose side you are on!

Good luck in tue second amercan civil war.

semck83 (229 D(B))

(While non-college grads went for Obama 51-47. Thus, graduating from college correlated negatively with voting for Obama).
obiwanobiwan (248 D)

I sometimes honestly wonder if it's sheer luck and geography that doesn't encourage some of the more radical nutcases in this country to start a second Civil War, orathic...

The West Coast and Northeast being separated by the South and Midwest...

If by some miracle everything from Washington state down to Los Angeles suddenly broke off and merged with the Northeast near Boston and New York and that Northeast area that always votes Blue, I wonder if we'd still be unified, if we "could" then just as easily split the country up between a Democrat America and Republican America.

The South tried to secede once, obviously, and they didn't have to deal with their states being separated from one another by Northern states...

If America could be split into a nation with the West Coast and Northeast (as well as other Blue states like, say, Illinois) on one side and the Midwest and South on another, I wonder if anyone would start to think about just drawing a line and seceding again...

It'd still be stupid and wrong--stronger country together than apart--but if it weren't such a geographical mess, I wonder if a party like the Tea Party might have called for such a thing by now.
Octavious (2701 D)
10 Nov 12 UTC
In all seriousness, would the US splitting into 2 or more smaller nations be such a bad thing?
SacredDigits (102 D)
10 Nov 12 UTC
The northeast and west coast don't have enough in common to hold them together post-division. If there was a split, I think that it would be at least 6 areas, like this.

Alaska becomes its own thang.
California, Washington, Oregon, Hawaii, Nevada.
Everything north and east of Pennsylvania plus Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, and DC.
Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota. This would be the most politically divided area, but has enough in common to stay together.
North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Montana.
Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, Carolinas, Virginia.

Unsure: Arizona, New Mexico, Florida. Florida actually could split itself up a few times, even.
semck83 (229 D(B))
10 Nov 12 UTC
I suspect your last two groups would in fact stay together, SD.

Also, I think both Alaska and the west coast would benefit from their staying together.

In and (sic) interview with FOX40 News Thursday, she said that what she posted was wrong. She also maintained that she is not a racist.

“I think I was just really upset, and (the post) just kind of came out,” Helms said.

Since initially speaking with FOX40 Wednesday evening, the story has inspired a strong and emotional reaction from both sides of the issue.

http://www.ibtimes.com/denise-helms-writer-facebook-obama-slur-says-she-wouldnt-dwell-it-if-president-was-assassinated

^Now let's see what the adults have to say about it.

---
Her Facebook account has since been deactivated, but, before it entered the twilight zone, Helms defended herself by saying she was “just stating my opinion!”

Helms also said she wasn’t a racist -- despite her use of the most inflammatory word out there -- because she has black friends.

...

“The assassination part is kind of harsh. I'm not saying like I would go do that or anything like that, by any means, but if it was to happen, I don't think I'd care one bit,” Helms said. “It’s not something I would dwell on.”

Helms, apparently unburdened by any knowledge of either etiquette or social norms, also said she “didn’t understand what I did wrong.”
