Discovered Slacker Radio...
I'm impressed! I never figured anything with the name Slacker in it would be something I would use.

I also discovered that my WiFi extender reaches the entrie .6 acres of my yard, so no data used while listening to Slacker on my cell phone and mowing the yard!

Generating Noobs
I've got one or two coworkers I'm trying to introduce to the game. I'd like to find a group of guys willing to help show them the ropes in a low-pot, low-maintenance game that I would like to design to play about 3 or 4 years to give them a taste for how the game is played and everyone helps them learn the basics. At the end, all 7 powers would draw the game for a fun experience for all.

Juggernaut Fear, Reasonable or Oversubstantiated?
Ive been in quite a few games over the course of many years on this site and when I first started, the Juggernaut was deadly but people waited for it to develop. Now, it seems that even the hint of a Juggernaut is enough to kill Russia or Turkey or both.

My views. Italy handed Germany a win. England was not that great EITHER, but, his play had less effect on the outcome, than a very bad Italy

England&Germany vs. Russia&France
I experienced, that in the scenario when England and Germany ally up France and Russia are quite helpless. At least they are weaker, especially if they don´t coordinate very well. Anyone ever seen France and Russia winning against England and Germany?
Stressedlines (1559 D)

Well, first, there must be other nations on the board at the time, no? Or does Russia own austria and turkey already? If thatis the case, no such alliance comes about.

Russia has limited projection power in the west/north until the Balkans is resolved.
They have little chance to do ANYTHING in the north, if there is a English/German alliance vs them. They can hardly stop England alone, if Germany styas out of the fight there, but if England agrees to give Germany sweden, and they take STP and norway, what can Russia do? Nothing.

This gives Germany 6 or 7 SCs, but for your example we will say 6 (saying france has Holland0.

They need but 3 to hold the line vs France, Giving them 3 to fight russia, or maybe 2 (if they decide to garrison sweden or denmark, but they can be arranged where Engaldn puts a fleet in barents sea to offer support to STP)

So, now you have Russia forced to garrison Moscow, livonia and moscow just to stay EVEN vs Germany/England, and England/Germany have 6 units to throw against france.

If Russia is forced to do this, they are dead. They will get gobbled up by Turkey or Austria in the south.

for me, when I play Russia, If I can hold onto STP in the north, until 1904 9even if it means helping Germany vs England) I am happy.

If I can not resolve the issue in the south by then, then it is probably game over for me anyways.

that is suppose to be "france has belgium" not holland. And just so you know, if England owns the north sea,. EC and irish sea, then belgium is not french either. The Germans will have it.

takes only a bump from EC to picardy (assuming they have an army there, as it is critical to defending belgium ) and munich to burgandy, and belgium falls from ruhr with holand support (cant do it the other way, because burgandy can bump the support from ruhr)

make sure it is a fall turn also, so you can build in kiel to repulse the burg-ruhr move from teh previous turn, or else then kiel is somewhat opened.

No, russia has no play in the west. unless it is later.

So, an Anglo-Saxon alliance must be extremely powerful. How come I have never seen that on a board so far? England almost ever is a pain in the ass of Germany.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))

Stranger it's because it's considered one of the most unbalanced alliances in the game.

A strong E/G is very powerful in the early going, but after the nearby foes are dealt with, England likely has a huge advantage with the naval power, and a lot of incentive to stab Germany, since his only other route is the long slog through the med.

So far when I draw Germany, I've adopted a pretty regular "England must die" mentality for this reason.

I've had a solo that started as an E/G. We killed Russia first, and Austria was busy elsewhere, so I had plenty of growth and security. France and England just kept each other stalemated, and then I stabbed England hard. My 18th center was Vienna.

Just my take but I think it's a mistake to adopt any kind of XX must die if I am XY. Not only is it unchivalrous, it limits and conforms your mindset. For me, it's more important with the press that I get and whether I feel that the other person is trustworthy. So any alliance is possible with me if I can get on board with the diplomat. If you come into a game with the idea that this particular alliance is unworkable, then you have already cornered yourself and if you cut off options in the early game, then I think it's a disadvantage to you. Sometimes it's also fun to try out a different alliance to see if you can make it work. I recently finished a game where I was Austria and I allied with Turkey. That was one of the most challenging games I've played, partly due to how often I had to discuss with Turkey about builds and moves so that he isn't tempted to stab the hell out of me for a solo.

It's controlling the flow of units after the first objective is accomplished. Both England and Turkey have directions that it is easier to move units into at the start. England's fleets aren't suited for a massive land invasion so it needs to clear a coastal section for convoys. Turkey usually has armies and moving through Austria is easier than around it.

Using WebDiplomacy as a calculator.
Good day everyone. In my experience, one of the most frustrating things about playing Diplomacy in real-life is the period of order-processing. I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to utilise this website (or a similar platform) to essentially be an order-calculator for my real-life games. In my mind i see orders being written down, as standard, and submitted to the GM, who could then plug them into the system for calculation...Meaning the game could progress more rapidly. Any ideas?

Diplomacy 2!
So I have been writing a variant of diplomacy where you have resources to bargain with, and use to score the game to see who wins in a timed game. Anybody ever hear about this kind of game?

I thought unique names are enforced when registering. userID=45009 and userID=44951 appear to have the same name. Perhaps the mods should give one of them the opportunity to change their names to avoid confusion ; )
