I'd like to get a new classic/full press/WTA game going. Game turns would be 36 hours and I'd want the bet size to be somewhere around 30-110, but am flexible. Anyone interested?
Whose Line Is It Anyway? Public press Diplomacy game
So I recently just had inspiration for a public press Diplomacy game based on the amazing show Whose Line Is It Anyway? and thought it would be worth trying.
everyone knows it's all about the live winner-take-all gunboat games on the standard map. how do ghost ratings work? is there some way of pulling stats out of the database for this analysis? i want LWTAGBCV ratings!
At most, how many subsets can you find of the set A = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13} such that any two intersect in exactly one element? What about |A| = 10? Show a proof along with the answer.
Gunboat is more true to board Diplomacy than press
In the Diplomacy rulebook, it is explicitly stated that no diplomacy or discussion may take place during what we call "retreats" and "builds" phases. Let's see what it means for legitimacy of press games.

Forget IF God exists or not...supposing he did, would it be a good thing? Would it be, as Dante describes, an unparalleled Paradisio that makes a journey through Life, Hell, and everything else worth it? Or would it be the "Celestial North Korea" Hitchens spoke out against? Benevolent Father or Horrible Slave Master--God, you're on Web Dip Trial!
The idea is that the game would start out as either gunboat or press. Then, as soon as a fall turn ended with one player reaching 10 centres, the game would switch to the other one and never switch back.
I think either version would be interesting. In Gunpress, it would be fun to start speaking with people after you've already seen their moves for a while and already formed alliances. What if you couldnt get along with your erstwhile ally once you started talking to him?
Pressboat would be cool too because you would have to plan for the end of the game very early on. Once talking stopped, would it be easier or harder to stab your ally?
I was more just thinking about the idea in theory and seeing if its a variant people would be interested in playing. I don't expect it to be implemented or anything.
I think gun press would be more interesting, only because the press boat would so have to be on the honor system as what is stopping you from saying... " yo my name is John Doe so once this switches to boat (no press) just pm me. But I do think the gun press would be interesting and would lead to an interesting game.
I don't really see the point of that, particularly in the case of a game that begins as open press but ends as gunboat. Most of the time the endgame is just a strategy war as it is; very little communication happens when few large players are involved.
I think both are interesting. Of course, to try it would mean the honor system. But despite lying and cheating and stealling in game, we are a pretty honorable bunch when it comes to hard and fast rules. We bend the flexible ones as far as we can, but those games with special rules seem to get followed pretty well.
