In the World Diplomacy map, are the Panama Canal and Suez Canal functional?
Can you land a fleet from one side and then launch from the other?

Well, I'm Back...Again.
My sitter seemed to do a pretty good job, but it looks like I might screw all of that up.
Anyways, the past few seconds I've been on here, I've only realized how big of a douche each of you are. Once I finish my games...I'm pretty sure I'm not coming back.

Suggested Map
I'd like to suggest a map to add as an alternative to the Classic Diplomacy, the Ancient Mediterranean, or the Global map. I found it the same place the other two were found. It's called "Canton Diplomacy", and it takes place in Asia.

WebDip league?
Did anything come of it or did it die out at some point?

Yeah, let us chat some. It sort of fell off the radar with the holidays and the big blow up of 2011.

Alright, no worries. I was sort of just asking because I was thinking of trying to organize a tournament but wouldn't want to do so if interest conflicted with the WepDip league

It's not like they both can't run at once...

That's true. Let me know if you think this premise would have legs:

49 person tournament designed to mimic a year long league. Each person plays 7 games as 7 different countries. It's be a bit of a task to set up but I suppose you could also make it so each person plays everyone else.

Each 'round' of games would start something like a month apart as to avoid having too much overlap but wouldn't wait for the previous games to finish. There would be some sort of point system set up and the winner would be whoever had the highest score after all the games are played.

I think this would be a refreshing change from some of the other tournaments where you are consumed by several games at once but then have a lot of downtime waiting for the rest of the round to end. It'd also be a nice way to play with a lot of players that you haven't come across yet.

The drawback would be that there's a lot of room for meta-play and it, of course, needs a long term commitment.

Whatcha think?
Sounds very similar to the Masters. Masters is 8 games, fully anon, play each country once plus one country twice and the winner is the person with the most solos.

This tournament has also kind of stopped working, the TD quit and since goldfinger has taken over but the games he keeps sending out fail to start for whatever reason.

Ah, so it is. I just always figured that the Masters was more exclusive - hence the name

What went wrong with the Masters?
gman314 (100 D)

The tournament director stopped partway through last year's masters. That basically wrecked the whole thing.
gman314 (100 D)
17 Jan 12 UTC
It also wasn't that exclusive. The 49 were chosen by their GR, but then a lot dropped out over time so a lot of subs were brought in. The main problem with the Masters was really time commitment.

Would a longer turn phase or bigger gaps between games made it work better?
Alderian (2425 D(S))

The first year of the Masters it was 2 day phases and games starting 1 month apart. This second year it was 36 hour phases and games supposed to start 3 weeks apart so should yield a similar amount of overlap. But either way it is a very long time commitment to play 8 games.

I had an idea, not for a tournament exactly since it would have no end, but more of a non-ending league structure. Everyone is ranked based off of how they've done in their past three or four games or so let's say and you group everyone into groups of 7 (or maybe 14) based on that ranking and start a game a month. Then the next month you rerank based on the completed games. You lose you lose rank. You win/draw you gain rank. And that next month's set of games are based on those new rankings. If you need to take a break you inform the TD and if you come back later you can earn your way back up in a few games.

In an anonymous, no chat, wta game Austria and Italy coordinated all of their moves. Also 2 of the 7 teams didn't turn up. Is it possible to register as 4 players. I'm hazarding a guess that all 4 of the players are one and the same person. Any thoughts from any forum members, nobody likes cheats, it spoils the games and devalues the website. Is this a common occurrence?

Tactical Sim
I think it would be a really great feature to be able to run a tactical simulation - set up the board however you want, enter moves for multiple countries and see them adjudicated. Basically to have the option of playing against yourself on your own board. I think it would be really useful, both for new players getting the hang of basic tactics and for veterans who want to see how various strategies play out over multiple rounds. What say you, webDiplomacy?
