why did the germans go on fighting??
just a curious question, is there any clear reason why the Germans kept on fighting when all was lost??
it was suicide while they could probably get a peace agreement...
did they do it because Hitler said so?? were they that loyal?? answers please...

At the risk of inciting mass hysteria. . .
I happened over to OliDip or vDip or whatever it's called these days, and saw a variant to choose your own country. Is that something that may be implemented over here?

Is there any way to hand over games to someone else? I really don't want to play anymore. I have 3 games going on, one's pretty good, the others are ending.

Could this happen? Can anyone defend Socialism in this thread dedicated to Greek debt? George Will is priceless, just how badly will Obama lose in 2012? Everyone knows that lower tax = more revenue, and these liberals who make Mythical victims can be spotted out with this guide to weak arguments and minds.

Do you own a boardgame copy of Diplomacy?
As there have been some IP questions about WebDip recently, I thought it might be useful to have a survey of how many of us own a cardboard version of the game. If enough of us own the game, it might convince Big H lawyers (may they never come knocking) that WebDip is not really hurting sales of the game.

I've been hunting for a good board with decent pieces, wooden or metal ones. Haven't played FTF since high school and even then only knew one kid with the board. I seriously want one.

Seriously? Some board game maker is going to try to "stop the Internet"? That is absurd. If they had any sense they would embrace the Internet and set up their own site (or buy this one). I'm an old man of 36 and even I can see that.

Just like the whole "stop piracy and downloading" before iTunes started making a fortune.

Two copies of the 1992 deluxe edition (wooden pieces) on Ebay now:

Mine is the Hasbro with the metal pieces. It is really quite nice. I used to have one with a blue cover and a fellow on the floor with a saber in his back -- Baltimore-era Avalon Hill, I think.

BTW, I was not trying to fearmonger with this thread. Intellectual property issues aside, it is interesting to know who owns what.

It wouldn't even occur to me to let 6 dorks like myself in my house. Horrors. What would the neighbors think? The whole, "they were hookers and/or drug dealers" story only goes so far...

I can't find a diplomacy board in Greece.
Noone plays it besides a small group of situational anarchists (no kidding) interested in modern history.
I have played live diplomacy only once (with them).
It took months to finish the game cause we didn't know it can end in a draw so we kept switching alliances until someone eventually won...

I have a board which I have never used. If anyone wants it let me know - it is a shame to have something that someone could get some emjoyment out of.

If Hasbro ever come calling I think I have the perfect stratagy for stopping them in their tracks but I can't say any more.

if Hasbro came calling they would be utter fools. they only reason diplomacy keeps getting played and sold worldwide is sites like this one.

I've got an AH copy with wooden pieces - purchased in 1981 or 82. Its been a while since it has been used for a face to face game. But I still break it out occasionally to help me strategize.

It is nice here to see a lot of noms de guerre I don't know well from the forums. Clearly, a lot of us own realspace copies of the game but it is just to hard to find/con six folks into playing it with us for a day. Also, the Dorito/Dew cost would be prohibitive . . .

hurting sales of the game?
really? very few ppl will by the board this days(unless is special edition)
is a very old and geeky game
not enougth action and violence for the new generation
and dont forget that you have to write the orders and need some friends to play with(not facebook friends, real ones)
if you want to convince someone just show them the number of active players in this site
they will see for themselves

Rules question
If a fleet in Edinburgh is support holding a fleet in the Norwegian Sea, and the fleet in the Norwegian Sea is moving to Norway (to counter a possible move to norway) and the fleet in the Norwegian Sea 1) is bounced out of Norway while 2) a fleet attacks the Norwegian Sea with one other supporting unit, will the fleet in Norwegian Sea be dislodged or not? It's 2 vs. 2 in Norwegian Sea, but the fleet there has a move order, which cannot be executed.
