It was clear from the first year that 3- 5 players were working together. That ruins the live games. Russia, England, and France made moves no one would make in a game with unknowns.
So pretty much the whole northern US is getting whacked by a storm, and I know I'm not the only person who might be without power for a good long time. Perhaps those of us in the path should vote pause, with the understanding that the other players should also pause if we vanish for a couple of days.
Perhaps it's just me, but do some people take this game way too seriously? Here I am, playing Diplomacy for fun, countlessly running into people, other players, that I can't help but to assume have a dictionary nearby whenever they play the game. Intimidation via vernacular, if you will. And to be honest, I find this concept incredibly humorous. Anybody else?
Italy is at 7 SCs but about to hit 5. The players in the game have been very dependable -- no other NMRs up to 1905. A good bet for a decent player who enjoys negotiation. The password is playfair.
I just turned 2 and have not learned a damn thing yet. Maybe when I'm 3 I will know how to play this game:) Happy birthday to anyone else who has the same web dip birthday.

The above quote is from my SECOND-favorite playwright of all-time (we ALL know who my favorite is) Mr. George Bernard Shaw, who was staunchly of the opinion that life SHOULD have a purpose, and that if it didn't...well, he didn't look kindly on that, but let's focus on the positive--IS there such a thing as "purpose/justifying your existence?" Is it granted naturally, or obtained? Can it be lost? WHAT IS IT? And if there IS no justification for existence...what THEN?
I consider FTF Diplomacy to be the purest. When playing FTF, you often know who are the players you are playing against, you know their history and how they play. This allows a more intricate diplomacy. By playing anonymous games on WebDiplomacy, we ignore the most fundamental side of FTF Diplomacy - history.
charlesf appeared on the webdip scene on December 10th of 2010. He had one bad game experience so came to the forum to both talk about how this site could be better and to get a better quality game going.
He was last seen on January 10th of 2011 when he had the audacity to leave his country in Civil Disorder in that game.
i know i should post this in the live games thread, but oh well. i would like to play a quality live game today at about 10am eastern (4pm spanish time, in about 3 hours) -- classic, small pot, anonymous or not, full press. any takers?
I'd just like to discuss about how to approach in compromise and resolve through diplomacy. I'd like to know your guys opinions about what you think is the best form of diplomacy.
I'd also like to ask your guys opinions about what basis you guys form when creating an alliance. As in, do you guys form rules to be kept when you guys make an alliance?

This is Israel...and I KNOW things haven't been all peaches and desert roses with us lately, but I think that with your taking power now there can be a new initiative for peace in the Middle East! DMZ Jerusalem, like Ahmie suggested...but your nation's going to need some new resources, and Isreal's so narrow...Israel would be more than happy to condone an Egyptian support into Yemen and Jordan to spread the GLORIOUS revolution for all Arabs! @Israel: Sounds good to me, an alliance would be in both our interests. @persia: Sure, how about I take southern Israel up to edge of dead sea, you take the North, and we let Hindu-India take Jerusalem just for balance? You open to Iraq and I'll play The Cairo-Pudding, then we'll make a move. Dunno what to think about Libya? Doesn't sound like he's got any major allies?
United States here. Look, previous players left you in a bad position, which I completely understand. I took over from a CD myself, and ended up with a whole bunch of units stuck way out in Iraq and Afghanistan that I really wish I could move back to my home centers. We've built the stalemate line, so I'm voting a draw. Will continue to S-H Jerusalem until you vote draw.
@US: Heya Mate, long time no speak! Sounds fair enough, /draw. Been chatting to the other nations round here though - none of them are going to vote draw until we kill off Israel :S Recon we can get a mod in or something, this is getting ridiculous - we haven't had an SC change hands for aaaages, just some little troop shuffling around the edge of Israel.
Why the sudden need for a draw? At least stab Persia so there are fewer people to share with. Yankee will surely help you, his armies in Iraq are just support holding anyway. I heard Ahmadinejad has some WMDs under his bed, tell that to Israel, he's always complaining about getting nuked. Should suffice as an argument to support you from Jerusalem. Then wipe out Israel too and I'm drawing.

We need to keep the stalemate line. Look, you weren't around for this, but your predecessor said he'd draw if Israel moved F Sinai out, and he did. And then they wanted him to move A Gaza out so Palestine could get a build, and I'm working on that, but I think really, there's not even a unit to claim it to get the build. I'm just sick of this game now and want the draw. I'd almost settle for a survive. I've got a lot of other things going on that make the time I spend here pretty much a waste, especially since no one is willing to accept the stalemate lines, but they're definitely there: I've been trying to move troops out for years.
