I'm curious as to the age of most people on this site, as well as to their general location (eg, country.)

I imagine that it's fairly widespread.

Preference Lists
I am asking this here to see if it is popular.
Would people like to enter games with a list of prefered powers in order?
A recent poster said he did not like Italy, while that is my favourite. Oddly I dislike playing England and Turkey. Would this be hard to code?

I was in a 2100 point PPSC game this summer. I was Germany and can't find a record of it in my history. Help?

I'll start. I'm not in this game, and Germany is MadMarx and Austria is Babak.

Autumn, 1908: [Germany] Austria, your bitching is getting very old, get off your high horse, not everyone has to talk to you just because you want them to, try to open up your mind a bit for everyone's sake, especially your own.
Autumn, 1908: [Austria] Russia - you need to get a far better understanding of what this game is called and why.

[Austria] Germany - you can go Fuck yourself =) and I mean that in the nicest way possible.

Same game but earlier

Spring, 1906: [Austria] guys - out of curiosity - any of you talk to Russia at all recently?

its really frustrating to play a game called "Diplomacy" when some of the players seem to not understand what that word means.
Spring, 1906: [Germany] Russia and I have been chatting up a storm for days on end, you must be doing it wrong.

Germany - Spring, 1901: "I don't want a deal and I don't want immunity. I want you to know that I am proud neither of what I have done nor what I am doing."
Italy - Spring, 1901: The tea is quite cold and the wine is sweet and fruity.
Turkey - Spring, 1901: In Moscow the leaves fall during the summer...
Italy - Spring, 1901: and the flowers bloom in September.
Germany - Spring, 1901: And there's Marseilles to the plane in Spain...
Italy - Spring, 1901: I think that plane's a Cessna.
Germany - Spring, 1901: "They're gonna find out it's us. We could make it look like the plane went down, but they're gonna find out it's us, and I'm gonna be going for three supply centers while I'm fighting a war against Turkey."
Italy - Spring, 1901: Oh like that's big news!
Italy - Spring, 1901: That's no moon; it's a space station.
France - Spring, 1901: Spain and Portugal are tasty afterschool snacks
Turkey - Spring, 1901: ...but Sweden is a choking hazard
Germany - Spring, 1901: It even looks like one. I've tried swallowing something like that...it didn't taste very good.
Italy - Spring, 1901: Scandinavia is a lion leaping upon Europe.
England - Spring, 1901: I suggest that we al- SQUIRREL

It's this game, in progress: http://www.webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=36940
Paralellopiped sent this one while signing off as Germany in a public press game where we all agreed to speak in a stereotypical accent from our country.

"Und now der end ist near
Und so Ich face der final curtain (und es is iron)
Mein friend I'll say es klar
I'll state mein case von vich I am certain
I've lived ein life that's voll
I've travelled each und every highway
Und more, much more dann zis
Ich fahrt es mein way."
I was England in that game and it was unanimaously agreed that I was the hardest to understand :-)

Just finished a live game that was cut short due to a CD. We had to convince Austria to agree to the draw by using poetry. My contribution was:

there's naught so haughty as civil disorder
with armies and navies idle at borders
awaiting their neighbors' greedy maw
let's avoid that and just vote a draw
tarspaceheel (503 D)

Here's the url for the message log for the game ODaly is talking about. It's truly wonderful.

I think every surviving power, except maybe Russia, submitted a poem at game's end.

Gotta love a game with good banter that continues (in the above game it actually got better) after the lies and vicious stabs.
moses (124 D)
03 Sep 10 UTC
that game also involved austria (me) stabbing turkey, and then getting stabbed by italy, then wooing turkey with poetry to side with me to fight italy, and then i stabbed turkey again
and then the poetry went rampant

Once in a Public Press game, I wrote an acrostic to signal to Russia where I wanted him to retreat to:

Gone are the days of Rasputin
A new Russia can emerge
Let's work again for the good of Europe
It is possible to retreat wisely
Coming into a new decade
In style
As a respected power

"Warrior Bards" (gameID=29250") was done entirely in rhyme; a number of good ones from many players. But I'm particularly proud of this one. I was Germany; we were down to me, France, and an R/T juggernaut when France decided to stab me. I removed a unit from Den so that Russia could move in, in the hope that Russia would work with me long enough to give me a shot at survival.

---

France I only wanted you to gimme 1 SC,
It doesn't look like such a massive sacrifice to me.
You could've let me in there and you'd still be in great shape,
So you can try to dodge the blame, you ain't gonna escape.

You don't play nice you rolled the dice
Can't roll em twice take my advice
You're in the game don't feel no shame
When you complain you just look lame

Removed my fleet in Denmark cuz I won't serve as your buffer
Mother ****** stab me and I'm gonna make you suffer
I'll gang up with anyone who's gonna take you down,
Keep your mouth shut like a mime cuz Frenchie you're a clown.
