"Leaders" variant
Looking for players. See rules inside.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
30 Jun 10 UTC
Rules are:

1) That there 3 official teams, team leaders being England, Russia, and Germany.

2) That the other four players may apply in private to be included on the team. If the team leader agrees, he will announce in global chat that the applicant is now on the team. The applicant will confirm. If he denies, he is not a member of the team.

3) That, if a team leader is about to be eliminated, the team internally elects a new team member and the old team leader declares him on global. The other team members then confirm. If any deny, it does not go through. However if consensus cannot be reached and the old team leader is eliminated, it automatically defaults to the team member with the most SCs at the time of the old team leader's defeat.

4) That, when having joined a team, members cannot leave until one full year after their joining. (i.e., If France joins with England in Fall 1901, he must remain on England's team THROUGH Fall 1902, only on the Spring 1902 turn can he now be hostile toward England.)

5) That obligations of team membership include:
a) Never supporting the moves or holds of units outside the team unless those units belong to an independent, undeclared power.
b) Never moving against a team member in hostility (Never taking his SCs and never attacking his positions)
c) Taking part in all team votes, and not obstructing team efforts in any way, including by not moving. If a dispute has occurred, it can only manifest itself once the team member is legally able to leave the team
d) Never passing any information to other players outside the team that the team members did not authorize being passed

6) That any of the above obligations can be circumvented if all team members agree that it was acceptable on global chat after the move has occurred. Team members MUST make certain that such moves are acceptable to their team mates BEFORE such moves occur, and if they are not they MUST NOT make the moves. This will be enforced on the honor system.

7) That victory is declared when only one team remains, and that all members of said team are obliged to draw the game immediately following the defeat of the last non-team member.

8) That, after the one year period of mandatory team membership has expired, the team leader may eject any team member from the team at his or her discretion, for any reason.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
30 Jun 10 UTC
A further rule is that any breaking of the rules results in a military campaign against the rule breaker and only the rule breaker until he or she is eliminated, at which time the game is immediately drawn between those remaining.

If you agree to these rules and understand them, please express your interest.

When 7 players are interested, I will PM the password.

It should be fun!
This could be better on the world map, with maybe 5 team leaders.
killer135 (100 D)
30 Jun 10 UTC
Benguin already started two team games on classic so maybe start one on World to make it different
Thucydides (864 D(B))
30 Jun 10 UTC
We've already had a dry run, and it was working pretty well. It was fun.

Main problem was that one of the players didn't know the rules. So here they are. At the outset.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
30 Jun 10 UTC
Ok so I take it Conservative Man and killer135 aren't interested.

I don't like World Map at all... it takes far too long as it is, and this variant would only make it longer.
spitfire8125 (189 D)
30 Jun 10 UTC
I would be interested. It sounds like fun. What sort of phase length were you thinking?
rlumley (0 DX)
30 Jun 10 UTC
You might want to add a rule saying that Russia can't join England's team.

Because that's totally what I would do.
killer135 (100 D)
30 Jun 10 UTC
And make a rule where no more than three members to a team. I am in a team game where Russia has four team members
krellin (80 DX)
30 Jun 10 UTC
I'm with Conservative Man -- would be much better on World Map, and -- if the teams are well run -- should easily take less time than a regular world map game. It seems that on Classic map you will have at best 2v2v3...so unbalanced by design from the outset...so in effect it would become 4 v 3...bahhh.
P-man (494 D)

I'd be up for it, world or classic.

Draugnar (0 DX)

I'm in Thucy. But no more than 50 D.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
01 Jul 10 UTC
so:

P-man
centurion1
draugnar
me
spitfire8125

need 2 more

i think any number of people should be able to be on a team

also it should be noted that teams can negotiate and create informal alliances with other teams as would be done between players in normal dip.

the phase i think should be long-ish. day and a half?

and the bet can definitely be 5 D. i dont see why it should be higher, as a variant.
Draugnar (0 DX)
01 Jul 10 UTC
anything over 24 hours is fine by me. 36 to 48 is good.
Thucydides (864 D(B))

its 36. i pm'd those expressing interest.

please note that by joining you agree TO ABIDE BY THE POSTED RULES
Draugnar (0 DX)

I'm in!

I do have a question about 5a though. If the team (or leader, whichever) approves, can 5a be overridden. After all, support move on an enemy's self bounce can screw the enemy up big time. I've used it before to great success.
Draugnar (0 DX)
01 Jul 10 UTC
Nevermind, 6 allwos for the possibility to override any part of 5 by team concensus.

Can someone post links to games under this variant?
Give us some sort of reference.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
01 Jul 10 UTC
there have only been two i think,

one was cancelled due to rule breaking (i now have a rule for rule-breakers..)

the other is going on. i dont know the link to the ongoing one.

i also don't know if they're using the above rules exactly.

Who hates Americans and Why?t
I hate them because not only are they an interfering bunch and war mongerers, but also because they are loud mouths, can hear them from Oz with their loud talk, but they are arrogant, more than the french, and pompous... that's for starters

Pause please?
To everyone playing this game http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=31461, I would like to ask for a pause. I'm going away for the weekend and will be back approx Sunday 9 am AEST (Saturday 11 pm GMT). Please don't flame me as I can't ask this in game as it is a gunboat, and I would rather the players decide than ask for a moderator to do it which could leave some players confused.

Hey, I'm interested in joining a gunboat sometime, but honestly, I don't know how to signal my desires to other players let alone achieve my own goals. So, how does one play good gunboat?
