I've NMR'd a few times now in games because I don't ask for pauses when I know I'll be missing phases. I usually only join one day phase games so I miss phases fairly easily. I did it earlier this week because of graduation, and at the beginning of this month because of Prom. Is it rude to ask for a few days' pause, when I know I'll otherwise NMR, even though my only reason for asking for a pause is that I'll be partying and forget to enter moves?

I asked for it for a wedding. I think, so long as you don't abuse it and you aren't just startign the game, it's OK to ask for a pause for a short term (day or two). But then, I had one not pause and just made certain to check my games with my crackberry every morning and night of the wedding weekend.

You can always ask- if you let everyone know why, they can freely choose not to pause.

In your case, I'd just play longer phase games. If I was playing in a game with you, I'd be rather annoyed if you kept NMRing.

i sometimes am away from the net for a weekend and requres a 48 hour pause.

I figure that is entirely legit, and if the other players want to pause that sucks for me; but i feel entitled to the pause request.

etiquette is simple - ask at anytime but don't be offended if people don't accept your request.

etiquette on unpausing is also simple, unpause as soon as you are able to

The first rule of pausing - unpause when you are able to continue. If you are granting a pause request, when the pause happens immediately vote to unpause so the requestor can resume the game for you as soon as they get back.

I hate it when a pause I requests is stuck forever cause someone else in the game doesn't bother to unpause. It makes it look like I was abusing the pause feature when I wasn't.

@ abgemacht - I can't stand games with phases longer than 36 hours. I'm usually on twice in a 24 hour period so those games are good for me. It's just every once in a while that real life messes with my games.

When I read "I miss phases fairly easily," it sounded to me like this was a common (more than once a week) issue for you. If not, then I would go with the advice already given. You should never feel bad about asking for a pause, but you shouldn't expect them to be granted, either.

Especially when your NMR might hinder more than just yourself - which, incidentally, is always - definitely err on the side of asking for a pause. Of course, if you know you're going to have a conflict like graduation coming up soon, I would also suggest erring on the side of waiting to join a game until after it passes ;)

Independence Day Countdown, Day 2- Football vs. Football

So, Day 2 in my two-week countdown to my favorite non-December day, July 4th, and seeing as how it's also the World Cup, and there was another thread of Football and...well, Football, or, rather, Soccer, here, let's kick off (pun TOTALLY intended) this discussion of all things Football and Football. Toy Story 3? (Did Anyone... Cry?)

Anyone seen it yet? Read reviews that said it's amazing... but also a lot of people are leaving this "children's film"... crying?

All my friends went to see it, and they said they cried MULTIPLE TIMES... they're theatre people, so maybe a tad emotional... but still- anyone here seen it, how good/bad is it... and did you cry?
