I had always heard below 18 had limits of difference in age, didn't know some states have age of consent as 16 without any other rules at all.

I've always found the idea that a single day in a persons life is the difference between legal and not. The day you turn 21 you can magically drink. The day you turn 18, you can magically vote (there is the exception to that for primaries, of course). And depending on the state, the day you turn 16/17/18/whatever, you are magically legal to have sex with other adults...

Age as a determining for for these things is silly, but realistically it's too difficult for a ridiculously huge government with millions of people under its thumb to keep track of different peoples' ability to deal with certain things.

Obviously there are some teenagers that are fine being sexually active and some grown people who would be better off growing up more first - age isn't the determining factor, it's about the person him/her-self.

Well, the federal laws say 12 in Mexico, but they have restrictions and the individual "states" or whatever they are called vary as high as 15 for some sexual activity. I doubt that a 40 year old man could sleep with a 12 year old in Mexico, but a 19 year old could probably do a 15 year old any ol' time.

I read the wikipedia information you posted, and it seems like as long as he isn't seducing a "chaste" young girl with lies or some such thing, then said 40 year old could get away with sleeping with a 12 year old...obviously not in all states, but in some - including D.F.

But it is wikipedia... It may not be a complete interpretation of the law.

I don't know about you, but if I can't rely on wikipedia for accurate information on Mexican Law then I'm seriously fucked.
