I like the idea. Part of the problem with playing anonymous WebDip vs. playing on a board with friends 20 years ago is that lying to somebody on the internet and then stabbing them in the back takes ZERO effort. There are no facial expressions to read, no history (in a lot of cases) between opponents, no understanding, no integrity...Lying to your friend to stab him in the back was not something you could get away with too many times - your character became known.

Yes, you can begin to know players on here...but I dont yet, and the notion that "lying and back stabbing are part of the game" is standard, expected behavior. I think it takes very little skill to lie and back stab. To be honest and play a game without lying...where true diplomacy is what makes the day....that is a tough game.

But....it will never fly on here.

I'd like to play touch Diplomacy again. That's a really interesting variant, in which players can only talk when units are in bordering territories or 'make contact' by bouncing eachother.

Touch was great. I'd be up for a game - Perhaps after exams, if summer timetable allows it.

You don't need to see your opponent to know when a stab is coming. Just pay attention to how everyone is positioning their units. If you do that, it'll very often tell you who your enemy is and who is your friend and who is allied against you.
