Who would like to join a 101 Point game with a 2 day phase?
I thought I might gauge the level of interest first.
Do people prefer anon or do we like to see the players names. I don't mind anon but if we play it that way I would prefer to password protect the game and recruit players from the forum.
The other thing is, what would people prefer WTA of PPSC?
Post here if you are interested, specifying your preferences. I'll create the game once there is enough interest.

No Stabbing
In a different Diplomacy site, me, and 6 other people played a game known as no stabbing . Basically you had to declare war on your opponent before attacking them. You had to announce regardless of if you had talked to him or not. The announcement had to be at least 6 hours before the attack, and 20 minutes before you finalize. Whos in?

Promises to Draw
A hypothetical situation:

Three players (who do not know each other and are not otherwise meta-gaming) agree at or near the start of a game to form a permanent alliance; they will work to eliminate the other players, then draw the game. (More)

Given the real-world absurdity of the idea I'm amazed this comes up so much.
As has been pointed out, this would be harder than getting a ship across Italy :S
Parallelopiped (691 D)
22 May 10 UTC
Nonsense. Melt the ship down, cast the steel in ingots and pack the other devices in tea chests filled with straw (you may need to drink a lot of tea but that's never been considered a serious problem to a British engineer). Carry the lot across Northern Russia by rail. Reassemble ship in St Pete's. Rename StP Leningrad to celebrate. Simples, your ship is ready to celebrate the October revolution in style.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

And if you name the ship the HMS Banach–Tarski you can then reassemble it into two ships on the other end, right //opiped?
Parallelopiped (691 D)
22 May 10 UTC
Fantastic plan. Actually you can reassemble an entire fleet (well, so long as you insist that it's countable). Russia rides again! Hooray for mathematics.

@Alamothe: in Ancient Med version of Diplomacy you can move ships over land. This represents the portway across the isthmus at Corinth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diolkos). The canal that is there now was opened in 1893.

diplomat61: The mighty flagship of the Baltic Fleet: http://www.soue.org.uk/souenews/issue5/jenkin1.jpg. However could it have ended up in conflict with Japan like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Destruction_battleship_Petropavlosk.jpg?
Parallelopiped (691 D)

What we need is some kind of time travel device to take a fleet from standard diplomacy and land it in Ancient Med dip. Then the world would truly see the might of this armed and fully operational death star...
Hang on!

In fairness, I do think it would be quite nice to be able to destroy/disband your own units, as far as realism goes

Here's a real example of ships moving over land from WW I .So it can be done.Just not in diplomacy. http://samilitaryhistory.org/vol014ds.html

Wow, very righteous author! Whilst I agree the last German captain probably should have put up a fight of some form, if he was a likely to loose as that suggests then making sure the British can't take his ship is a very sensible fallback!

I just wonder how the Germans got there ships there in the first place. The last ship was 850 tonnes.I don't know anything about ship sizes but it sounds big enough to me.

@Podium

"The Graf von Götzen was built in 1913 at the Meyer-Werft Shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, and named after Count Gustav Adolf Graf von Götzen, the former governor of German East Africa. After a preliminary assembly, the ship was taken apart and shipped in parts to East Africa to serve as a passenger and cargo ferry, in addition to the Tanganyika railroad. It arrived first in Dar es Salaam, and was then taken on the Central Line to Kigoma, on Lake Tanganyika. It was there, in 1914, that the ship was rebuilt and launched, in June 1915."

It is still in use today! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graf_von_Gotzen for the full story.

largeham (149 D)

True, but since then, technology has improved, I'm sure Russia would have had some way to getting fleets across. If not, then I'm in favour of being allowed to disband units.
diplomat61 (223 D)
24 May 10 UTC
@Largeham: you are thinking of the White Sea - Baltic Sea Canal, which allows shipping to travel between the two coasts. However, it was only completed in 1933 (with forced labour) and has a depth of 4m so is unsuitable for sea going vessels.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Sea_%E2%80%93_Baltic_Canal

In RL the resources necessary to build a fleet are considerable. Sailing a vessel from location A to B is much more sensible.

Introducing the "magic fleet teleport" rule would unbalance things in the game.
warsprite (152 D)
24 May 10 UTC
@largeham I'm sure the Home Fleet would have shuddered in fear at the site of a fleet of Viking long boats showing up at Murmansk. The technology would have been better but size of the ships grew larger than any land transport could deal with. If you take apart and rebuild a ship of any size you might as well build a new one.
