All My Friends Know That It Keeps The Bad Thoughts
gameID=22383
Thanks for the game everyone... lonbgest game I've played, for sure...1924!
Feel free to post whatever you want... I feel like I could have got the solo if I didn't mess some orders while I was attacking France....

Sorry- just made another thread on the same topic- lets use this one!

I actually thought France could have held Marseilles as well if he'd hadn't tried to hold on the his SCs in Northern France so hard, but from my point of view it was good you got up to 17 before being stalemated.

I think I was lucky to survive in the end, I must thank doofman for that.

I also remember noticing that, despite Troodonte (Germany) doing everything he could to become England's friend (support holds, attacking France, everything) England kept attacking him, and I think that backfired eventually when France and Germany allied against him...
jimgov (219 D(B))

Then I will move my response to here.

What I remember is Gary being singleminded on my destruction. I screwed up and did not keep up the pressure on him and he made me pay for it. Great game guys.
Troodonte (3379 D)
15 Apr 10 UTC
I believe dave i correct in this point...
I'll copy paste waht I wrote in the other thread:

I believe your mistake was that you decided to attackl me (germany) while we were both attacking France...
that made me go back just to defend my territory and gave france the space he needed to defend from you... A G/F alliance was born there and you were the victim :P
After that I think I stabbed Gary in the perfect timing... so close to get the solo... it hurted me to call draw but no chance to go further...
I tried to reduce it to a 3 way draw, but Turkey just didn't want to risk it ;)

I'm open to play another similar game if there is interest.

By the way there was a week in which I was on vaccation and I didn't manage to input orders daily because of intermitent internet access... sorry for that.

I really supported you to try to make us "friends" jimgov.... but you were too gredy... you were in mao and brest and movet do hel, I believe...
dave bishop (4694 D)

I also found it interesting how Austria was so strong early on, while I defended from an all out assault from Turkey, but couldn't use his advantage to even earn himself a draw...
jimgov (219 D(B))
15 Apr 10 UTC
Oh, no question I screwed up. I thought my position was better than it was. The problem is that I had never really played a high level gunboat before. At least not that high level. In other gunboats, I think my plan would have worked. Not in this one. Live and learn. You guys are good. I tip my cap.
jimgov (219 D(B))
15 Apr 10 UTC
And I would also be interested in a rematch.
dave bishop (4694 D)

Another thing, figlesquidge made an all out attack on Austria early on, but he's *always* saying how its crazy for them to fight early on, and that they should definitely ally in gunboats....
Troodonte (3379 D)
15 Apr 10 UTC
I guess he was just confirming his theory ;)
jimgov (219 D(B))

Speaking of which, has anyone seen figlesquidge lately? I can't remember the last time I talked to him.

figle's been away for a while over easter. In and out of mental institutions, no doubt.

Can I just remark on how beautiful the stalemate line F/T/R got together there really is?
orathaic (1009 D(B))
15 Apr 10 UTC
it is a fine stalemate line!

well done to you guys.
dave bishop (4694 D)
15 Apr 10 UTC
@ Troodonte, if it makes you feel any worse, I supported you to Budapest in autumn 1922 to try and throw the game and get a survive/stop you from eliminating me.
If you'd moved there you would have won.
Troodonte (3379 D)
15 Apr 10 UTC
I saw that...but i didn't even think about moving there before because who would be crazy like you to do that? :P I though you only did it to make fun of me and that you wouldn't repeat it...and you didn't... :)

I tried hard to make turkey eliminate you but he supported you hold repeatdly so I clicked draw... damn...I really wanted the solo :D

So, who is interested in another BIG POT GUNBOAT?
Troodonte (3379 D)
15 Apr 10 UTC
By the way dave, I enjoyed particularly the year in which I took Moscow from you...:P
dave bishop (4694 D)
15 Apr 10 UTC
yeah, I remember that year.
I predicted the stab, but made all the wrong moves, didn't bounce where I should have, and then lost Moscow- although to be honest I think making the right moves would have only delayed my fate.

You spent 2 or 3 straight years trying to eliminate me!!! I was so tense every-time I updated to see if Turkey would have taken the bait. Lucky he didn't!!
And yes, I was just teasing you
Gary (2194 D)
16 Apr 10 UTC
Good game, good game. Easily the longest game Ive played so far, and the 100th one that I have finished. I had an up and down and up and down rollercoater ride...which ended up with me overextending myself in Italy. In hindersight I should have consilidating my gains first, but was glad to rally and force the draw in the end.
doofman (201 D)
16 Apr 10 UTC
well played guys. really good high quality game.
man i was spewing at the start, i wasn't able to get an forces out and thought i would be eliminated. then Austria crumbled and just as i started to build up i had to race around and secure the stalemate line and shit that was a close run thing, one more phase and it would have been curtains.
I thought about taking up the offers to eliminate russia but i wasn't willing to take the risk, those lines had been set up perfectly and impenetrable, so i was happy for the 4way
Troodonte (3379 D)
16 Apr 10 UTC
So...interest in a rematch?

Till now only me and jimgov showed interest.
Anyone else...?
Anyone who wasn't involved in this game?

I was tinking of a WTA, 150-200 D buy-in, 3 days phase with commitment to finalize orders ASAP...

Interest?

Inspired by Obi's thread... (Which I thought was talking about a game of diplomacy, but wasn't)

In The Spirit Of Site-Wide Peace And Love- CELEBRITY DEATHMATCH!
A crude but fun little show here in the States from the late 90s into the new millenium, claymation versions of celebrities present (Tommy Lee vs. Pamela Anderson, Bill Clinto vs. Saddam Hussein) and past (Joe Peshi vs. Napoleon in a "Short Man" fight, and, my personal favorite, "A Hard Day's Fight" featuring The Beatles in a battle royale!) would duke it out.

So pick your celebrity/historical deam matchup, and who'd win, why... let's have fun!

Pryor vs. Carlin in... The Context of a Word?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZCS5I80X-8&NR=1
You'd think having Richard Pryor and George Carlin in the same clip on a topic would be hilarious... instead, it raises an interesting question: are some words just not to be used in comedy and just too uncomfortable (Pryor) or is it "context!" that matters (George Carlin of Seven Dirty Words fame... those words are... nah, find the clip yourself!) ;) Interesting one great comedian + one great comedian= linguistic/social debate...

Fast enough for gunboat, slow enough to not realize you've been playing live for 8 hours, smoked a pack of cigarettes, and forgotten to finish your term paper. Added bonus: global chat to justify a needed pause.

Firefly: What Should I Expect?
So I've heard a ton of good stuff about the show (even though only 1 season ever aired). I started watching it on Netflix tonight, and so far it seems pretty cool. Any fans on here?
