CNN was, at one point in time, considered to be the credible source for news. Now, there were attacks against it for being too liberal or too conservative, or whatnot...but, they had credibility. They were essentially the source for actual journalism. Then, they started chasing ratings, and...it is sad.

I want some news channel out there to actually fact check the items their guests say. If Bob from the Republican party says that Obama has increased taxes on everyone and George from the Democratic party says he has decreased taxes on everyone, I want the host to say..."I have just heard from our fact checking department, and Obama has decreased taxes on most earners with incomes below $250,000, while increasing taxes on most earners making more than that. If you would like to see where we got this information, go to our website for the breakdown of the documents and the bills that affected this." Maybe they could do that with the 50 people sitting behind the hosts? It could be a lot of work, but it is better than ending the interview with, "Well, I see that this is a controversial issue, and we will have to leave it there"

I agree with you. I hate it when I hear 2 sides of the story, but they contradict each other, so only one can be true. It isn't that hard to check something for accuracy, especially if the debaters (lol, sorry I'm immature) told them what they were going to argue ahead of time and had to provide sources. In school we always had to provide sources for our work, so why should it be any different?

I think one of the main reasons that Americans are so uniformed is because of the media. And then you have the fact that people would rather hear about Tom Cruise's new girlfriend rather then what is happening in Iran. The majority of Americans are really really ignorant.

Tantris, I agree with you absolutely, but what we want will never happen - there's too much legal liability and career risks involved in reporting actual news, which is why it isn't really done any more.

I'll admit that Fox is all-out right wing if you watch their evening programming (O'Reilly, Hannity, Beck), but their daily, non-talking-head programming is slighty right-of-center. MSNBC is moderately left (less left than Fox is right), and CNN appears centrist because they are terrified of saying anything that could possibly be interperated as biased.
