Would you rather...
In here, you must answer the previous question and post a new "Would you Rather" in each post... I'll go first.

Would you rather have sex with someone with no arms or no legs?

TMG Masters round 2 game 4/crashed
the game was paused but says "now" instead of "paused" and cannot become unpaused.
http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=13757
Also, the pause was initiated after 1 turn after I requested it which resulted in losing the build phase. So when you fix it could you move it one turn back (build phase 1901). It's now stuck at Spring 1902.
thx in advance!

Delete account?
Hi all,
I'd like my account deleted. Is this possible and how?
Thanks.
Greets.
spyman (424 D(G))

You have asked this question before (look at your thread history for the link) . Accounts don't get deleted. They can get banned, and thats probably the closest you'll get to your account being deleted.
Just don't login. The effect will be the same.
WarZebra (100 D)
04 Oct 09 UTC
Great, I checked my old thread now (you know, this forum system is so not like any common forum [as is the whole interface at all], that I overlooked the old thread even if I looked for it though before creating this post) - well, so I understand, they won't delete my account. It's a pity and even if they discuss why that is senseless I don't agree with them.

1) If I would want to start a new account, I just would create a new one with a new email and what? They wouldn't even notice it.

2) The possibility of getting your account deleted is just a matter of fairness. They let me create an acc. to participate and ALSO contribute to the community. They should also let me decide to delete my acc. if I feel I would like to.

3) It is not true that many other companies don't have such a feature. It is true though that many other companies change the acc. status to "inactive" or something instead of actually delete the acc. from the database for technical reasons BUT usually the important data is deleted (e.g. email).

However, I will add fake data into my account (especially email) and then it's okay for me. Thanks though.

StevenC. (1047 D(B))

Okay, why do you want your account deleted in the first place?
Acosmist (0 DX)
04 Oct 09 UTC
They let you do something in the first place, so they should be committed to doing you future favors.

Nah, not seeing that logic.
spyman (424 D(G))
04 Oct 09 UTC
WarZebra, kestas might be able to delete the email if you ask him.
This site is run by a company. It's one person who does it for nothing so that we might have the please of playing diplomacy together.

This thread is not about why WarZebra is wrong; he wants his account deleted so he certainly wouldn't come back and refute us.

He's wrong because his parentheticals make no sense.

Did he mention that he contributes to the community? It sounds like: "is this free? then I'll act like if I were paying 1K(D) a month".

Nevertheless, I'd love the forum to be the common phpBB (WarZebra: this would be one way of asking for things when you pay absolutely nothing for them)

The forum debate comes up every once and awhile, and I think the general consensus is that we like this forum. And I agree with that consensus. :-)
spyman (424 D(G))

Personally I don't like the phpBB format and I am not fond of forum categories. I like the way everything is all mixed in together here.
Gallando (255 D)

The main drawback of this forum, apart from its clumsiness, I think is Google doesn't index it and there is no search. I've been looking for the airborne's "25 signs you play too much diplomacy" thread for ages :)

Alderian (2425 D(S))
05 Oct 09 UTC
For what it is worth, from his last sentence, I'm inferring that he is not wanting to play anymore, and does not want to leave any personal information behind, such as his email address in case some nefarious person hacks into the webdiplomacy server and steals everyone's personal information to use in an identify theft scam or even to send spam to.

In any case, it is all rather silly since as he mentioned, he can just change the email address, and what other personal information is there? I guess there might be some I.P. addresses logged in a few places. But really, he's a bit overboard.

Regarding the forums, now that we have pagination and private messages, I think what we've got is great.
Gallando (255 D)
05 Oct 09 UTC
Thank you guys for the help. But understand that in this case you remembered it was a post by airborne... anyways it's just my point of view :)
WarZebra (100 D)
06 Oct 09 UTC
Except from Alderian, nobody seems to be really interested in thinking just a little more than what it needs to click on the "post reply" button to tell anybody once more that you think my "parentheticals" are non sense. Fortunately Alderian has done the job for you and you can just read his reply (first paragraph) to understand.

However, I am not sure why most of you like to spam these quite useless or offtopic replies together. It was a pleasure to play webdiplomacy but for time reasons I won't be able to play anymore. Since this game is based upon a sourceforge project I am also aware of the spare time character of this game and am seriously thankful to have been allowed to play WD. Also I didn't valued the forum software (or even mentioned to use phpBB), just mentioned I was failing to find my old thread even though I tried.

About the 3 D given, which were actually meant as replies to the other thread because there some arguments were given which are wrong at all, I am sorry that they seem to provoke many of you. However, they are still true, especially 1) and 3). If you agree to 2) depends on your personal view/sense of justice.

Point 1 is most definitely NOT true. even if you don't play with both accounts, multiaccounting is a bannable offense and the mods have tools to track them down. you may well have been discovered.

Point 2 is a matter of perspective. Deleting/deactivating an account and letting the person create a new one means their record gets reset. This is not fair to those who stuck it out and suffered through their first few losses.

Point 3 is irrelavent. This is a private site and Kestas can do as he pleases with it.

With regards to the sourceforge project, it is older code. The latest and greatest on this site is not on sourceforge just yet. Kestas doesn't release it to the community until he is satisfied with it.
WarZebra (100 D)

Draugnar, @1) if you know how internet works, you should know that there are no tools to track multi accounter down in a reliable way (especially if they also know how internet works).

@2) Anybody here seems to assume everybody has only one and only one reason to delete/deactivate his/her account, to create a new one to reset his/her points. Believe it or don't but in my case it is just because I'd like it to be deleted, and I won't return for sure even if it was a pleasure to be part of this community.

@3) It is true (what I actually said), however, I agree that even if it is true (what I actually said), this site doesn't have to provide such a feature. In my situation it would have been nice though :).

"1) if you know how internet works, you should know that there are no tools to track multi accounter down in a reliable way (especially if they also know how internet works). "

Yet multiaccounters are found.

"@2) Anybody here seems to assume everybody has only one and only one reason to delete/deactivate his/her account, to create a new one to reset his/her points. Believe it or don't but in my case it is just because I'd like it to be deleted, and I won't return for sure even if it was a pleasure to be part of this community."

It's not a matter of assuming anything. If your petition to delete your account is accepted, then any other petition in the same direction should be accepted, hence the problem remains.

"1) if you know how internet works, you should know that there are no tools to track multi accounter down in a reliable way (especially if they also know how internet works). "

If you know how mods work, you'd be rather less confident about that. Hey-ho.
Draugnar (0 DX)

@WZ - Your response to point 1 has been answered and by a mod of the site no less. I'll let your ignorance pass (p.s. I'm a 27 year IT veteran who has been developing web sites since the web's boom in the 90s, I know more about how the internet works than you do).

Point 2) It's not why you want it. It's called establishing a precedence. Rules are created to prevent the worst from happening, in this case abuses that reset account statistics. The fact that you want to do it for a different reason does not preclude (a) that you are lying and will come back with a different account, or (b) that the fact you were granted your delete would set a dangerous precedent where the mods would have to grant it to anyone who asks. If you do not see this, then I suspect you are less intelligent than the average user on this site and that would probably explain your three defeats and no survives, draws, or wins.

Is the guy who doesn't want to be here still here?

Man, if only someone weren't forcing him to get on, right? That sucks that someone is forcing him to keep signing in and posting stuff.
Draugnar (0 DX)
09 Oct 09 UTC
Good point Acosmist (almost). Of course it is flawed in that we aren't forcing him to sign on. There is no notification that a response was made to this thread, so he wouldn't know until he chooses to sign on, something he'd obviously be doing anyhow, even if there were no responses. So, I'm afraid that is a logical fallacy AKA an *epic fail*. :-)

Of course if that was sarcasm on your part directed at him, ignore my sarcasm (with a smiley!) directed at you... ;-)

Oh crap, I thought someone was holding a gun to his head and making him post ITT.

WarZebra (100 D)

@Xapi: I agree to that. I just wanted to mention that the assumptions of many are wrong.

@TheGhostmaker: Are you really sure that I'm not already posting with a fake account to this thread?.... for the lulz. :-)

@Dragauner: You are an "IT veteran", I'm an IT professor, who knows more now?

@Acosmist: Oh, little padawan, you have to grow up before flaming serious forum threads.

However, nobody seems to recognize that I accepted these rules long ago (check my first reply and read *CAREFULLY*) since I know how internet works. The three points were just mentioned to think about. Thinking seems to hurt for many who responded to them though. It's a pity. Still a great game :).
